Abstract

Neem (Azadirachta indica Juss) powder is often used as a botanical insecticide which is applied directly to stored rice to control the rice beetle (Sitophilus oryzae), however this method may cause contamination on the stored rice. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of neem leaf and seed powder in teabag packaging in controlling S. oryzae. The study used a completely randomized design with a factorial pattern consisting of 2 treatment factors. The first factor was the type of neem powder (without powder, leaf powder, and seed powder), and the second factor was the application technique (direct sow and in teabag packaging). The results showed that the type of neem powder and its application technique on rice interacted significantly in causing mortality of S. oryzae at 2 - 3 days after treatment (DAT) and was very significant at observations of 4-7 DAT. Applying leaf and seed powder in teabag packaging can provide higher yields than direct sowing. At 7 DAT, the highest mortality of S. oryzae occurred in the treatment of neem seed powder with direct sow application technique (57.50%), the mortality was lower in tea packaging (33.33%). The application of neem powder in teabag packaging caused a higher number of the adult of the first offspring of S. oryzae and the damage to rice. The application of leaf and seed powder of neem in teabag packaging does not cause contamination of rice, so it is safer for consumers.

Abstract

PT Semen Padang is a cement factory which uses limestone as the main raw material. This companny located in mining area of Bukit Karang Putih, Lubuk Kilangan Idarung district, Padang, West Sumatera. Currently, PT Semen Padang has 3 (three) units of the crushing plant for limestone crushing. Units of the crushing plant are The Limestone Crusher II, Limestone Crusher IIIA, and Limestone Crusher IIIB. The research aims to know the working system of crushing plant units and evaluate the performance of the crushing plant. Another purpose of this study is to analyze the size of limestone feed material, which goes into limestone crushing plan unit using Manual photography analysis method, as well as to assess the effectiveness of the crusher towards the production target. PT Semen Padang currently has a monthly production target of 555.505 tons/month. Based on the measurement of performance parameters, the Mechanical and Physical Availability, each unit of the crushing plant has been working quite well. However, based on the Use of Availability and Effective Utilization parameters the performance of each crushing plant is still considered bad. The results showed that the presence of the value of underperformance of crushing plant unit has no effect on the company’s planned target of 555.505 tons/month, it can even reach above the target: 625.412 tons/month. Abstract

– Gaming technology has been growing these years rapidly. The game engines have the capability of creating a very realistic virtual environment model. This technology can also be used for mining purposes. In this research, the game engine is specifically used to develop a mine self-escape simulation game for training purposes. The game engine which is used to develop the simulation game is Unreal Engine 3. The main advantage of using such a simulation game as a training tool is because it allows the trainee to experience a dangerous situation while not being put in danger. This kind of training is considered better than conventional briefing, normally conducted by showing a video or pamphlet. Studies have shown that people retain more information when they are involved interactively in the learning process. In this research, a computer simulation game as a training tool for underground coal mine self-escaped has been successfully created using fire scenarios. The player/trainee should follow some procedures to get to the safety zone
