Abstract

The fossil energy reservation decreases day by day, this situation impacted to the   energy crises especially fuel energy which is increasing in the price on over the world. The scientists/researchers are trying to develop the renewable energy (renewable fuel) as the energy  alternative, one of these called biodiesel. Taking the benefit from Jatropha curcas’ seed as raw  material         for the fuel is one of the alternative ways to reduce the fuel demand and also can save the  countries’   foreign exchange. J. curcas’ oil is renewable fuel and non edible oil, so that it will not  compete with oil   consumption, such as palm oil, corn oil, etc. The combination between Naphthalene acetic acid (NAA) (1-                   2 ppm) and Benzyl Amino Purine (BAP) (0,5 and 1 ppm) for            micro propagation of Castrol oil plant (Jatropha curcas L.) was tried to induce the callus formation by using the meristem shoot as the explants. The result showed that the combination of NAA 1.5  ppm and BAP 0,5 ppm gave the best result for the callus formation.

Abstract

Abstract

Orchids are very famous for their beautiful and long-lasting flowers and variety among the most diverse family of flowering plants in the world, comprising thousand species and hybrids and very attractive. The research aimed to determine the morphological features of two local orchids Phalaenopsis amabilis L. and Dendrobium x Superbiens and the stomatal characteristics of both orchids. Plants were the only living organisms that are able to convert light energy/sunlight into chemical energy, and stomata is an important part of plants for CO2 to enter the leaf and H2O to be released during the photosynthetic reactions. The results showed that Phalenopsis amabilis L. was monopodial orchid and Dendrobium x Superbiensis a sympodial orchid. A qualitative descriptive research method used to describe and interpreted the type of stomata of Phalaenopsis amabilis L and Dendrobium sp. stomatal density were counted on adaxial and abaxial part of the leaf, and the highest stomatal density was obtained on the abaxial part of Dendrobium x Superbiensleaf 290.81 mm-2. The type of stomata was anomocytic for two local orchids.

Abstract

Nowadays, Aglaonema sp. becomes very famous in Indonesia. especially during the pandemic covid-19. Many people tend to stay home to stop the spreading of the virus. One of the activities that can be done during staying home is growing the plants as well as ornamental plants. Aglaonema sp. is one of the important and well-known foliage ornamental plants in Indonesia, commonly called “Sri Rezeki”. The generative or sexual reproduction of Aglaonema sp. is difficult, and it contains some endogenous pathogen. The common propagation techniques are by cutting and seed, which risky in the spreading of the pathogen. Micropropagation is an advanced technique to produce a large number of plants in a short time and pathogen-free transplant. This manuscript endeavor to include some important investigations and studies on the use of the Plant Growth Regulators (PGRs) on the Aglaonema sp. micropropagation.

Abstract

The prevalence of non-communicable diseases (NCD) in Aceh Province is very high. It is a health problem and the main cause of death due to diabetes, hypertension, stroke, etc. The reason is the low level of community fitness due to lack of movement, low activity and wrong eating patterns. This study aims to measure the effect of fitness, BMI and age on the risk of diabetes mellitus in civil servants. The study used a cross-sectional design and was carried out at the Aceh Provincial Health Office in 2021. The sample was a civil servant from the Aceh Provincial Health Office. Ninety-seven people were taken randomly. The characteristic data collection was conducted by interview. It used BMI and anthropometric data obtained from weighing and measuring the height to determine nutritional status. Blood glucose was collected by laboratory examination of Hba1C using A1CNOW Plus 3021 to detect diabetes mellitus. Fitness data was obtained from jogging (1,6 km) using the Rockport method to obtain the VO2 Max value. Data analysis used the Linear Regression test at a significance level of 95%. The results showed that fitness (p=0,039) and BMI (p=0,011) affected the risk of diabetes (p<0,05), while the age factor was not associated with diabetes (p=0,365) in civil servants. The dominant factor that influences the risk of diabetes is BMI (OR= 4,1). In conclusion, fitness and BMI greatly influence the risk of diabetes in civil servants at the Aceh Provincial Health Office, while the age factor has no significant effect.

Abstract

Abstract Phalaenopsis orchids are recognized as the most popular orchid genus in the world, especially in horticultural industry due to their large, colorful, and durable flowers as well as their wider adaptability to room conditions. The characteristics of seedling propagated by vegetative means are not uniform; therefore, propagation through tissue culture is desirable. Although the micro propagation of Phalaenopsis has shown very good development, but the wide spread of micro propagation still limited due some problems such as the exudation of phenolic compounds, the PGR concentration, the media used, somaclonal variation, the chosen explants, etc. This paper endeavor to include some important investigations based on the common explants used; leaf and flower stalk. Keywords: Micropropagation, Phalaenopsis, leaf explant, flower stalk ReferencesAnonymous.
