Abstract

This research aims to produce a valid chemistry module based conceptual change model Explore, Diagnose, Design, Discuss and Use (ED3U). The steps of this model are align with scientific approach which is an approach used in current curriculum. This model make the student find their own conception and considering their prior conception will resist or they need alternative conception so that they can have scientific conception. In order to optimalize this, the module is presented using three level chemistry representations that are macroscopic, submicroscopic and symbolic. Developments of this module used 4-D model (define, design, develop, disseminate) with check list as a non test instrument for observation in define step. Beside, it also use questioner to determine whether the module is valid or not. The data was analyzed by Kappa Cohen Formula. Based on the three validators who are the chemistry education lecturers and two validators who are lecturers of Design Communication Visual found that the value of k is 0,829 for content validation and 0,69 for graphics validation. It means the module is valid in high category.

Abstract

This study is a define phase of 4D model used in Research and Development (R&D) that aims to explore initial concept of grade XI students on acid-base topic before studying the material. Instrument used in this study was a two-tiered diagnostic test in the form of multiple-choice questions with choice of reasons that consisted of 16 items. The test was given to 100 grade XI students from various schools in West Sumatra. Students’ answers were processed by grouping them into 3 categories: understand, have misconceptions and do not understand. Data were then analyzed descriptively by calculating the percentage of students learning difficulties in all of competency achievement indicators that had been compiled. The results showed that students had difficulty in understanding some concepts of acid base such as acid base theory of Arrhenius (75.2%), of Bronsted-Lowry (81.43%), and of Lewis (100%); pH (94.04%); and acid base ionization constant (97.33%). Results of this research are then used as a consideration in the development of acid-base module designed for grade XI Senior High School learning.

Abstract

This research aimed to analyze students' mental models in chemical equilibrium before and after using guided inquiry-based learning material. The instrument used was a conceptual test which has been developed by Bergquist and Heikkinen. This test was taken before and after formal instruction using the learning material. Responses were obtained from 30 first-year students of Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Science of UNP which taking general chemistry course in 2017/2018 even semester using purposive sampling. Student answers to this test were analyzed descriptively. From this research, student understanding increase after using the learning material. The highest increasing is in equilibrium shifting stoichiometry concept. This gaining correlated to students’ mental model development. The results of this study indicated that in general there has been a development of students’' mental models before and after using this learning material. Although, not all students’ model mental are appropriate to scientific concepts in chemical equilibrium.

Abstract

Teaching materials used by teachers in acid-base material have not been able to develop students' critical thinking skills. One solution that can be done to develop students' critical thinking skills is using acid-base module?s based on REACT  (Relating, Experiencing, Applying, Cooperating, and Transferring). The aim of this research is to produce an acid base module based on REACT and reveal its validity and practicality. The type of research used is Research and Development (R&D) using the 4-D model. The module design has been assessed by seven  validators who are Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) consisting of chemistry lecturers from FMIPA UNP and chemistry teachers. While the practicality test was conducted by 3 chemistry teachers and 26 students of class XI MIPA SMAN 1 Padang Panjang. Data analysis techniques in this study used the Content Validity Ratio (CVR) and Cohen's kappa formula. The module design produces three main characteristics, namely: the module is designed in accordance with the prior knowledge of students; the module contains the REACT syntax component; and the module contains aspects of critical thinking skills developed by Ennis. The results of the content validity obtained value of the Content Validity Index (CVI) of 0.90 with a valid category and the results of the construct validity obtained kappa moment of 0.92 with a very high validity category. While the module practicality results according to the teacher and students obtained a kappa moment of 0.86 with a very high practicality category. The conclusion from this study is that the module developed is valid and practical.

Abstract

Writing scientific papers is very important for today's teachers and it is also an obligation for current teachers to be promoted. However, many teachers experience problems in doing so, such as not understanding how to write it, how to start and the time available. To be able to write KTI, the teacher must have data. This data can be obtained by the teacher through classroom action research. .

Abstract

Cassava is widely available, even abundant in the Katapiang Urban Village, Batang Anai Sub-district. Unfortunately, society does not know the benefits of cassava as a prebiotic that is beneficial for family health. This community service activity aims to increase knowledge about prebiotics from cassava and how to process them so that it is beneficial to society. In this way, the health of the family can be maintained. The activity was carried out at the Masjid Istiqomah, Katapiang Urban Village, Batang Anai Sub-district, Padang Pariaman District, involving 18 targets. The activities implementation is divided into two stages, namely guided and independent activities. In the guided activities, interactive counseling and practical methods are used. Meanwhile, in independent activities, the targets made spice drinks in groups. The results of the activity showed targets’ knowledge about prebiotics and how to process cassava had increased so that they can get optimal benefits for health. The target is also interested in producing and consuming, their own processed cassava that has been made.

Abstract

Nagari Kurai Taji is located in Nan Sabaris District, Padang Pariaman Regency, West Sumatra Province. This area is inhabited by 9335 people, most of whom work as fishermen, traders and farmers. Kurai Taji community who work as fishermen usually only sell their haul as raw materials or basic ingredients for cooking, so the profits are not much. The abundant marine haul is sometimes also difficult to sell to the public, especially in the midest of the current pandemic situation. In addition to fishing, the kurai taji peoples are also known as traders. They sell many things like daily necessities and Pariaman’s spesifics culinary. However, from the information obtained, there are not many people who sell contemporary foods that are liked by young people in this area, especially those processed from seafood. This community services aims to equiped the people in Kurai Taji Village with skills in processing seafood into modern food that is healthy, nutritious and has high economic value. After participating in the training, it is hoped that the community will have skills in processing seafood into modern food so that the products made can be sold and increase the income of the local community. Thus, the community will be better prepared to face the development of culinary tourism in Kurai Taji. The products made are expected to be an attraction for tourist visitors and improve the economy of the surrounding community.
