Abstract

Tooth brushing programs that have been carried out in schools have not been able to change the brushing behavior of elementary school students, shown by OHI-S value = 1.3; DMF-T=1.09, def-t=1.78. Program improvement in behavioral aspects needs to be done to improve the dental health level of elementary school students. Behavioral changes are influenced by information. Information will be stored as much as 20% if delivered through visuals, 50% of the cost is delivered through audiovisual media and 70% if implemented in real practice.  Analyze the effectiveness of the audiovisual media model on tooth brushing habits of schoolchildren Method is Quasy experiment with pretest and posttest with control group design. The sample was divided into 2 groups, the audiovisual model in the intervention group, and the brushing program in the control group. The treatment was carried out for 21 days, the measurements were carried out pre-experiment, 25th and 35th days. Data were tested using the test freedman post hoc Wilcoxon, Man Whitney repeated, and Kruskal.  On the 25th-day measurement of significant changes in variable ways, long brushing teeth p0.05. At the 35th day measurement, there was a significant change in the method variable, morning brushing teeth p0.05. This model is effective against the formation of the habit of brushing teeth indicated by p0.001. Mogigu  model’s has the potential as an alternative to brush your teeth together in school so that it can be applied in the School Dental Health Business.

Abstract

Abstract

Introduction: A microorganism that plays an important role in dental caries is Streptococcus mutans. Dental caries can be prevented by brushing your teeth. The addition of antibacterial to toothpaste can reduce the number of caries-causing bacteria. Some anti-bacterial ingredients commonly added to toothpaste include fluorine, triclosan, and sodium monophosphate.Purpose: In this study, researchers wanted to develop an alternative toothpaste with cinnamon extract as an antibacterial ingredient. This research was conducted to formulate toothpaste with various concentrations of cinnamon extract 5%, 7.5%, and 10% and to determine the optimal concentration that can inhibit the growth of Streptococcus mutants bacteria.Method: The type of research conducted is experimental laboratories with a research design post-test only control group design. The toothpaste formulation is made with the active ingredient cinnamon extract with a concentration of 5%, 7.5%, and 10%. Cinnamon toothpaste was then tested on agar media which already contained Streptococcus mutans cultures. In addition, there is siwak herbal toothpaste as a positive control. Bacterial inhibition was analyzed statistically using the method one-way anova at the 95% confidence levelResults: research shows that cinnamon extract toothpaste with a concentration of 5%, 7.5%, 10%, and control+ has an average resistance of 11.5mm, 12mm, 12.5mm and 13mm. The results of data analysis by testanova show that p0.05. This shows that there are significant differences in the concentrations of the three cinnamon extracts. After obtaining the results One-Way Anova test significantly continued with the LSD test The results showed that there was no significant difference between the positive control and cinnamon toothpaste with a concentration of 10%, ρ=0.153. This shows that the inhibitory power of 10% cinnamon toothpaste is close to the positive control. This shows that the higher the concentration of cinnamon extract, the more antibacterial and bioactive content.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Background: The function of the organs of the elderly as they get older will decrease (organ degeneration), both due to natural factors and due to disease. An estimated 30% of seniors aged 65 years and older have decreased saliva production. Decreased saliva production causes complaints of dry mouth which is often known as xerostomia. This situation is caused by atrophy of the salivary glands (saliva) which will reduce salivary production and change its composition. The decreased salivary secretion will cause discomfort in the oral cavity, pain, and increased rates of dental caries and oral infections. Facial gymnastics is the act of giving massage to the facial area from top to bottom around the cheeks, mouth, and chin, this activity can stimulate the function of the oral cavity.Research objective: to analyze the effectiveness of facial exercises on the quality of life of elderly people with xerostomia.Research Methods: Quasi-experimental with pre-test and post-test design, a sample of 30 elderly people with xerostomia. Facial exercise treatment was carried out for 30 days, measurements were carried out using the Xerostomia Related Quality of Life Scale (XeQoLS). Questionnaires were given before and after treatment. Results: The results showed that after doing facial exercises there was an increase in salivary secretion from an average of 0.6 ml/per minute to 1.1 ml/per minute, and the results of the paired t-test p-value = 0.000. The majority of respondents had a low quality of life of 53% and after doing facial exercises the majority of respondents had a high quality of life of 57%, with the results of the paired t-test p-value = 0.000. This can happen because the implementation of facial exercises gets mechanical stimulation. The stimulation given can increase the flow of salivary secretion which directly affects the increase in saliva volume. The normal salivary secretion will cause a sense of comfort in the oral cavity, thereby increasing the quality of life of the elderly.
