Abstract

This study aimed to find out how young adult understand the economic disparity issue and whether ideas related to that problem had authoritarianism and materialism inclinations. The study was done to a group of university students age 18 – 30 years old. There were 295 people participating in the study. It utilized a survey with an open-ended questionnaire to figure out participants’ feelings and thoughts toward economic disparity. Subjects also filled out authoritarianism and materialism scales. The result showed that subjects’ responses toward economic disparity could be categorized into three types: 1) critical response (structural), 2) naive individualistic response and 3) fatalistic response. Most subjects provided a naive individualistic response. Result of the cross-tabulation test showed that authoritarianism had a negative correlation with a critical response but had a positive correlation with naive individualistic response. Materialism had a positive correlation with naive individualistic response. Authorianism and materialism were not related to a fatalistic response.

The result of product moment analysis showed that online social support significantly correlated with adolescent’s body image (r = 0.261; p < 0.05). Further analysis found that there was body image difference between male and female adolescents (t = -2.104; p < 0.05). Age, location, access period, and the type of account followed did not have significant role on body image. In conclusion, adolescents need to have positive peer support.

Abstract

Online friendship is an inevitable phenomenon especially for young people for which Helmi et al. developed a concept and an online friendship scale with university students as their trial subject. From a  developmental perspective, university students are in the early adulthood stage. With the Internet’s asynchronous nature and the absence of non-verbal cues, the scale was applied to high school students in this present study. The purpose of this study was to test whether or not the online friendship scale has sound psychometric properties when applied to high school students. The subjects of this study were 214 high school students. The results of the structural equation model analysis met the goodness of fit criteria for construct validity, which include TL, GFT, and RMSEA indices. Its Cronbach's alpha reliability coefficient was also satisfying. A drive to create activities with friends on social media mitigates the lack of non-verbal signs resulting from online communication. This result supports the social enhancement hypothesis. Consequently, Online Friendship Scale can be implemented in adolescence and young adult.

Abstract

The aim of the study was to formulate a theory about Javanese adolescent self-concept in relation with friends. The subjects of this research were three Javanese adolescents, two girls and one boy. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and observation and were analyzed with the so-called grounded theory approach. The results of this study indicated that Javanese adolescents interprets himself as plural selves, hierarchical interdependent and altered. Individuals have a lot of selves that represent their relationships with others. The selves are composed with each other in a hierarchical relationship. In a particular time, an individual activates one only of their selves. The self-activation process goes with the principle of "if ..., then ...". After recognizing their friends and situations, individuals will compare and evaluate themselves then choosing and activating one particular self to adjust with a particular friend and situation. When Javanese adolescents are with their friends, they do not think much about physical aspect, they become themselves and feel equal, accepted, understood and trusted as a good person. Such self-viewing makes an individual tend to go through positive feelings and comfort being around friends. Keywords: self-concept, self-adjustment, adolescents, Javanese, friends

Abstract

This study was purposed to differencences angry (experience angry and expression anger) on attachment style (secure, with drawl, and anxious). The hypothesis was that there were differences angry scores (experience angry and expression angry) on attachment styles (secure withdrawal, and anxious). Subject with secure attachment was angry score higher than subject with withdrawal and anxious attachment style. There was 100 subjects participation in this study. There were two scales, which are attachment style scale and State-Trait Anger Expression Inventory (STAXY). The result is that there is differences experience and expression anger between three attachment styles. Subject with secure attachment style have experiences angry (trait anger & state anger) and expressions anger (anger-in, anger-out) lower than subjects with the others; and mean score anger control subject’s is higher than the others. Abstract

This study was designed to examine the hypotheses that secure attachment was the best predictor of self-concept rather than unsecured attachment (anxious and avoidance attachments. Intercorrelation-matrix shows that there was positive correlation between secure attachment and self-concept (r = 0,522; p < 0,05) and negative correlation between unsecured attachment and self-concept (r= -0,500; p < 0,05). Abstract

This research is intended to find the effects of real violence on aggressiveness. The hypothesis states that real violence shown on television will increase the aggressiveness of the viewer. The subjects of the research were 105 soldiers from the 403rd Infantry Battalion /WP. Experimental design were used as a method the pre-test post-test two-group. Data were obtained by an adaptation of the questionnaire made by Buss & Perry (1992), physiological measurement by measuring the systolic & diastolic blood pressure, observation, and interview. The result shows that real violence on television decreases the aggressiveness of the viewer, who is combat soldiers. The hypothesis is inconsistent with the study’s result because are in military background subjects are used in violence, unlike other researches that uses civilian subjects. There was co-linearity phenomenon between psychological satisfaction and others predictor so that psychological satisfaction out of regression analysis. The result of regression analysis showed that F value = 22,468 (p < 0,05) and R = (R = 0,620 ate R2 = 0,384). This meant that parent’s permissiveness attitude to smoking behavior and influence of peer was predictors toward smoking behavior on adolescents. It could be concluded that parent’s permissiveness attitude to smoking behavior and influence of peer were effectively contribution 38,4%. Keywords: Smoking behavior, adolescent

The results shows that correlation coefficient level (r) concluded from the two variables is 0,632 with significance level (p) = 0,000 (p < 0,01), so the research hypothesis can be accepted. Emotional Intelligence gives 39,9% effective contribution for Entrepreneurship at college students. Keywords: entrepreneurship, emotional intelligence

Abstract

Early sex education program through various techniques of givinginformation could prevent various sexual problems. The purpose of this study was to determine various technique of giving information through lecture, group discussion, and persuasive brochure for students or parents. The subjects of this study were 52 married men and women and 50 students who were randomly divided into 3 groups. This study performed by with pre-test and post-test measurement toward Scale of Healthy Behavior Knowledge. The first hypothesis was that discussion become more effective in improving knowledge of healthty sexual behavior for parents rather than discussion and brochure. The result of one-way variance analysis in gain score showed that F = 50,8526 (p < 0,05) for parents group. It indicates that parents group and lecturetechnique (mean = 20,8750) are able to improve the highest knowledge of sexual behavior, followed by group discussion (mean = 19,250) and brochure (mean = 18,333). Thus, it can be addressed that the first hypothesis was proven. In students group, there was no difference in technique of giving information toward knowledge of healthy sexual behavior (F = 1,4552; p > 0,05). Therefore, it can be concluded that lecture, group discussion, and brochure were methods that could be used in the early sex education programfor the parents.
