Abstract

At recent year, termite control strategies is still using of synthetic termiticide which is applied either by soil treatment, wood preservation or impregnation of the thermiside into the target. This control technique is very effective and beable to protect buildings and agricultural crops from termite attack, on the other hand, synthetic termite can pollute the environment and potentially poison to human. Therefore, it is necessary to develop termite control technology using baiting system, which is made from natural material as environmentally friendly. Eucalyptus leaves are potentially used as attractants for termite control by bait method. The test was conducted in two methods: no-choice test and two-choice test, using 5 treatment composition, eucalyptus leaves: official waste paper, 80%: 20%, 60%: 40, 40% : 60%, 80% : 20%, and 0% : 100% as control. The results showed that the mixing of eucalyptus leaf (Melaleuca leucadendra) and official waste paper at composition of 60%: 40% was effective as bioatractant to termites (Coptotermes sp). Keywords: bio-attractants, eucalyptus leaves, official waste paper, subterranean (Coptotermes sp).

Abstract

This research was carried out by using JIS method to evaluate natural durability of red meranti (Shorea leprosula Miq.) plantations using Silin system. For comparison, the similiar method was done on S. leprosula from natural forests. This study used a factorial CRD (completely randomized design) with treatment of Raw Materials (S. leprosula from Natural Forest and from Plantation Forest) and Stem Position (Bottom, Middle, and Upper). Each treatment were tested against wood rot fungi such as Tyromyces palustris (brown rot) and Pycnoporus sanguineus (white rot) to determine the percentage of weight loss. The results show that T. palustris give significant effect on reducing the weight loss the wood of S. leprosula, while the interaction between the two factors was not significant. Similiar result was note on P. sanguineus that the factors of raw materials and the position of the rod give significant effect on weight loss of S. leprosula. While the interaction of these two factors significantly affect S. leprosula weight loss. The results showed that, S. leprosula timber from natural forests and plantations are tested against both types of wood rot fungi has met the standard of weight loss is required by JIS that is < 30% for brown rot fungi and < 15% for white rot fungi. It is conclude that the S. leprosula wood from plantations forest supply can be used to replace wood from natural forest S. leprosula to fulfill the require of wood. Abstract

This research is aimed to know the effect composition of raw materials and concentration adhesives of urea formaldehyde to physical and mechanical properties composite board. Composite board made from the bakau bark, polypropylene plastic waste, and urea formaldehyde adhesive.  Variation ratio of bakau bark and polypropylene plastic were 60 : 40, 50 : 50, 40 : 60. The level of urea formaldehyde used thewere 10%, 12% and 14% of the total weigh of the composite board. Particle board is made with size 30 cm x 30 cm x 1 cm with target density of 0,7 g/cm3 at a specific pressure of 25 kg/cm2 and temperature of 220ºC for 10 minutes. Evaluation of the physical properties and mechanical properties was conducted according to JIS A 5908-2003. The results of this research showed the average value based the density is around 0,68 g/cm3 – 0,79 g/cm3, the moisture content is around 5,02 % -  6,84 %, thickness swelling is around 2,95 % - 4,18 %, water absorption is around 10,21 % - 19,22 %, modulus of elasticity is around 4990,46 kg/cm2 – 5780,79 kg/cm2, modulus of repture is around 104,73 kg/cm2 - 140,55 kg/cm2 , the internal bonding strength is around 7,53 kg/cm2 – 9,03 kg/cm2, and the screws holding strength is around 70,27 kg - 82,28 kg. The best treatment for the physical and mechanical of composite board made from ratio bakau bark and polypropylene plastic 40 : 60 and urea formaldehyde concentration 14%.Keyword: Bakau Bark, composite board, physical and mechanical properties, polypropylene plastic, urea formaldehyde

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to know the different types of natural orchids (Orchidaceae) in the area of Sekendal Village protected forest, Air Besar sub-district, Landak District. This research was conducted by using the method of exploration that is placing by the line intentionally or purposive sampling with long trail 1 km and a width of 10 m left, right. Direct orchids identification that done in the field from both the shape of the leaves, stem (bulb), as well as the shape of the flower. From the research results show that at Sekendal Village protected forest has 14 Orchid genus like Agrostophyllum, Bulbophyllum, Coelogyne, Eria, Dipodium, Cerastostylis, Dendrobium, Bromhedia, Liparis, Mycaranthes, Thelasis, Trichotosia, Phalaenopsis. With each track has a different growing place State of the level of epiphyte, litofit or terrestrial. The first path found 8 Orchids genus, second path there are 11 genera are found that have a height of 200-300 m above sea level, the third line of Orchid genus found 4 that all included into the Orchid efipit as for the fourth line is found as many as 10 genus of orchids with an altitude above 300 m above sea level and more leads to secondary forest. From the result of that 4 path there are 14 genera comprising 28 species with a total of 46 individual orchids nature. Keywords: Protected Forest Orchidaceae, purposive, Transect
