Abstract

Economic growth is one of the important indicators used to measure the country's development. The participation of Indonesia, Philippines, and Thailand in an inter-state or ASEAN cooperation encourages economic integration. The existence of economic integration then encourages the existence of international trade and capital inflows from outside the territory of the country. Investment is one of the factors affecting economic growth. International trade and stock market developmnet is one of the factors of economic growth for developed countries, while ASEAN 3 is criticized as a developing country. The purpose of this research is to know the causal relationship between international trade and economic growth. And know the causal relationship between growth of stock market with economic growth in ASEAN 3. This study variables of international trade, stock market growth, and economic growth. The data used are annual panel data from 2000 to 2015. Using Granger causality analysis. The results of the study show a bidirectional linkage between international trade and economic growth and there is no mutual relationship between stock market growth and economic growth in ASEAN 3. Keywords: Economic Growth, International Trade, Stock Market Growth, Granger CausalityJEL classification : C23, F15, O1

Abstract

This article discusses about re-testing the validity of the Fisher hypothesis in Indonesia. By using Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) approach, we will know if there is any causality between interest rate and inflation or not, for the long-term relationship. Interest rate divided into two main points, real interest rate and nominal interest rate. Hence, there are three main variables for this research, inflation, real interest rate and nominal interest rate. We applied the bound test to know cointegration between variables. The result shows that there is no evidence of long-term relationship and short term relationship between nominal interest rate and inflation in Indonesia.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic that hit Indonesia caused a decline in agricultural production, rising food prices, restrictions on export-import activities, and a decrease in food and non-food consumption. The purpose of this study was to determine the demand for staple food during the pandemic era, to examine household budget allocations and to determine price elasticity and income elasticity. This study uses expenditure data for consumption of the Indonesian population based on the results of the March 2020 Susenas. Data analysis uses the AIDS model. The results of the analysis show that rice is the main staple food with a share of expenditure of 52% in urban areas and 57% in rural areas, followed by chicken meat, eggs, cooking oil, sugar and milk, respectively. Comparison of consumption between before and during the pandemic era shows an increase in consumption for all commodities other than milk and sugar in urban areas, while in rural areas consumption decreases for rice, milk and sugar. The share of staple food expenditure is significantly influenced by prices and income in urban areas, while in rural areas prices and incomes have no significant effect. Both in urban and rural areas, the highest income elasticity is for chicken meat and eggs, while rice, cooking oil and sugar are considered inferior goods. The pandemic era is the right moment for the government to promote local food to accelerate food diversification programs.

Abstract

The production of herbal beverages such as ginger, turmeric, and other spices generates waste that is commonly discarded. The cellulose content in red ginger is about 60-80%, and in turmeric, it is 50%. The high cellulose content makes red ginger and turmeric waste suitable for use as raw materials for paper production. The objective of this research is to determine the optimum conditions for making paper based on red ginger and turmeric waste. The pulp formation process was carried out using the Semi-Mechanical Method, which involves the addition of chemical solutions and grinding, on a mixture of turmeric and red ginger waste (60:40) with variations of NaOH concentration at 8%, 10%, and 13% (w/v). The papermaking process began with refining and drying the waste, cooking the pulp, adding water and kaolin filler, and then printing. Characterization included antibacterial testing, tensile strength, and grammage. Based on the pulp characterization results at the optimum NaOH concentration of 8%, the moisture content was 8.89%, cellulose content was 49.28%, and lignin content was 9.28%. These parameters comply with the national standard (SNI) for packaging paper. The paper characterization results showed a tensile index of 2.12 Nm/gram, an antibacterial inhibition zone of 5 mm, and a grammage of 13 g/m2. This research indicates that the NaOH concentration influences the moisture, cellulose, and lignin content. Furthermore, based on the characterization results, paper made from turmeric and ginger waste has the potential to be used as antimicrobial packaging paper.
