Abstract

Medication adherence is behavior that refers to client obeys in following a medication, and makes lifestyle changes in accordance of recommendations from health care providers. Antiretroviral adherence is paramount for HIV/AIDS patients. The effects were often a problem in antiretroviral treatment and toxicity and often be the reason for replacing or stopping antiretroviral treatment. This study aimed to determine the “E-Patuh” Applications effect on antiretroviral adherence in patients Of HIV/AIDS In West Java. The research design was a quasi-experimental with nonequivalent control group design. The location of this research was in RSUD Kota Bandung and in RSUD Kota Banjar. The respondents was selected without randomization and used purposive sampling technique. Respondents in this study were 30 respondents. Data were obtained using self-report questionnaires. The intervention group was monitored a 30-day android-based E-Patuh application and monitored on an E-Patuh website and then measured adherence value with self-report. Data were analyzed using SPSS 22 with chi-square test. The results showed a significant difference between adherence value before and after application of E-Patuh in the intervention group with (p <0.05) with obtained p value = 0,006. The results of this study prove a positive effect on the using of E-Patuh applications against ARV medication adherence in the intervention group with the support system of the E-Patuh application. The used of E-Patuh is helpful in improving ARV adherence in HIV/AIDS patients. The features contained in E-Patuh were directly reminiscent of the timing of taking medication for PWLH. E-Patuh should be consideration for PLHIV and health care providers in hospitals to improve ARV adherence to reduce mortality rates in people living with HIV.

Abstract

The high prevalence and incidence of breast cancer patients poses a threat to the life quality of Indonesian women. Beside the patient’s condition, therapy options are also the factors faced by both the patients and their families. This research aimed at analyzing socio demographic and knowledge factors relating to therapy options of breast cancer patients. A cross-sectional research was conducted directly to the people (community-based and hospital-based) from 198 cancer patients in the main region, West Java Province. Data were collected through face-to-face interviews with patients, with or without their family. The data were analyzed using the Chi-Square test to yield a correlation between socio demographic and knowledge factors on therapy options. The findings of this research showed that there was a significant relationship between socio demographic factor (physical condition (p=0.002), emotional condition (p=0.000), patient’s age (p=0.000), marital status (p=0.000), family status (p=0.000), faith (p=0.032), and income (p=0.026)) and the knowledge factor (knowledge about illness (p=0.045), the cause of breast cancer (p=0.000), indications and early symptoms of breast cancer (p=0.014), indications and symptoms during breast cancer therapy (p=0.000), therapy for breast cancer (p=0.000), and treatment on indications and symptoms (p=0.000)) with therapy options. Therapy options can be impacted by socio demographic and knowledge factors, although considerations from family also play a key role. In this context, the nurse plays the role as an advocate to raise awareness on the importance of treatment to healthcare facilities, thus the people can make a well-informed choice on their therapy. The uniqueness of the research showed the characteristic of patients, and therapies option in the multi medical system in Indonesia.

Abstract

Introduction: Colostomy imposed multiple impacts on the patient’s life including physical, psychological, social, and spiritual. This study aims to identify the level of quality of life as well as to examine the differences of quality of life among colostomy patients with regards to certain demographic characteristics. Methods: This study used a cross-sectional and descriptive analytical approach. Seventy-one colostomy patients were recruited purposively to participate in the study. The studied variables included quality of life and demographic characteristics. The data was collected by using the WHO Quality of Life – BREF instrument. One-way ANOVA and an independent t-test were employed to analyse the differences in quality of life with regards to certain demographic characteristics. Results: The study found that the majority of subjects perceived that their level of quality of life ranged between very low to moderate (77.4%). Satisfaction with support from friends was rated as the highest item of quality of life, whereas satisfaction with sexual relationships was rated as the lowest item of quality of life. There was no significant difference in the patients’ quality of life with regards to age group, educational background, occupation, length of being ostomate, sex, and other health problems. Conclusions: The study implied that nurses need to realise and pay attention to multiple aspects of stoma patient’s quality of life. Nursing care should not merely focus on stoma care but also holistically consider on meeting sexual needs, as well as the psychological, social, and spiritual needs of the patients.

Abstract

Introduction: Professional nurses should have adequate competency in order to apply Evidence Based Practice (EBP) in their nursing care. However, many nurses provide nursing care based on traditions, habits and personal experience. Less confidence in the feeling of nurses about their competency when employing EBP could inhibit successful EBP implementation in nursing care. Therefore, introducing and applying EBP during clinical placements in the Ners program is essential to form a professional attitude and to provide a basic level of experience when applying EBP in patient care. However, the self-efficacy and competence of the students when applying EBP has not yet been evaluated properly and there is little known about the nursing students’ competences and self-efficacy toward EBP implementation during clinical practice. Thus, the study aims to describe the self-efficacy and competency of nursing students toward the implementation of EBP, while also investigating the relationship between self-efficacy and the competency of nursing students in the implementation of EBP.Methods: This descriptive correlational study involved 120 nursing students who were actively registered on the Ners program 2016/2017. The data was collected by using the self-reporting Evidence-Based Practice Questionnaire (EBPQ), which was then analysed descriptively and inferentially using statistics. Results: The results of this study revealed that more than half (55%) of the participants had a high score of self-efficacy and almost half (49%) were categorised as having a high competence when implementing EBP. The self-efficacy score was significantly correlated to the score of competency (r = 0.607, p < 0.01).Conclusion: This study recommends that the development of the students’ competence in implementing EBP is essential to promote self-efficacy when applying EBP, and vice versa.

Abstract

This study aims to determine a practical method approach to using social media to prevent the transmission of HIV/AIDS infection. The preparation of this literature review uses the narrative literature review method by entering keywords into the Pubmed, ProQuest, Wiley, CINAHL, and Science Direct databases. The study results indicate that the practical techniques used in the use of social media to prevent the transmission of HIV/AIDS infection include Network Monitoring System (NMS) and direct intervention. The Network Monitoring System (NMS) method can analyze the role of health sociology science on statistical data or social change trends used as consideration in formulating health promotion policies. Meanwhile, direct intervention with a comprehensive educational approach in empowering individuals or groups becomes a stimulant to self-potential to deal with health problems independently. In conclusion, both of them produce outputs in increasing awareness in the prevention and transmission of HIV/AIDS, healthy sexual knowledge, minimizing stigma against people living with HIV/AIDS, getting a target tracing flow that will be given education. In 2008, there were about 1.75 million patients worldwide who regularly received kidney replacement therapy in the form of dialysis, about 1.55 (89%) million underwent hemodialysis (HD) and around 197.000 (11%) used peritoneal dialysis (PD). This research explored the experience of hemodialysis patients with physical changes and emotional turmoil.
