Abstract

 Kegiatan PKM yang dilaksanakan berupa pelatihan Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) Berbasis Student Centered Learning (SCL) Bagi Guru SMP di Kecamatan Medan Deli. Kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk memberikan konsep dan keterampilan kepada guru-guru SMP yang ada di Kecamatan Medan Deli terkait prosedur penyusunan PTK berbasis SCL, baik secara teoritis maupun praktis sehingga hal tersebut dapat meningkatkan kreatifitas dan profesionalisme mereka dalam pelaksanaan proses pembelajaran. Untuk mencapai tujuan tersebut, kegiatan PKM ini dilaksanakan secara berkolaborasi dengan sekolah mitra melalui beberapa metode pendekatan seperti pendekatan partisipatif, pendekatan kelompok, pendekatan individual, metode ceramah, dan  metode diskusi. Hasil kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat bagi sekolah mitra berupa peningkatan pengetahuan/wawasan dan pengalaman para guru terkait konsep dan praktek penyusunan dan pelaksanaan PTK berbasis SCL yang selanjutnya dapat diimplementasikan di kelas pembelajaran. Pengimplementasian pembelajaran berbasis SCL yang dikemas dalam bentuk kegiatan PTK diharapkan menjadi salah satu solusi untuk meningkatkan kreativitas dan profesionalisme para guru.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the learning model's practice and its effect on increasing student activity and learning outcomes in listening subjects. This study employed quasi-experimental research with a non-equivalent control group design. The data were gained using observation and tests. It is analyzed by reflection and statistical test of SPPS. The results show that the application of the AMETTA learning model effectively develops student learning activities and outcomes. The result of hypothesis testing with sig. (2-tailed) was 0.033 (˂ 0.05) It indicates that Ho is rejected. Thus, there is a significant difference between the average student learning outcomes in the experimental and control classes. In other words, the application of AMETTA learning model has a significant effect on students’ learning outcomes.

Abstract

This paper addresses the question of how cognitive levels covering high, middle, and low order thinking skills are delineated in the questions seen from Bloom’s revised taxonomic framework and stimulus. To answer this question, the final-term examination questions from five faculty courses were analyzed through document analysis. The documented examination questions are categorized and reviewed based on cognitive levels referring to revised Bloom’s taxonomy. The questions are also construed based on the stimulus in each question. The results report that the cognitive level of tests is not wholly based on higher-order thinking skills. Of the five courses, only one follows the higher-order thinking skills-based question-writing system, and none of the items refers to middle-order thinking skills. Thus, the cognitive level on the test instruments has not led to an increase in thinking skills or is still at a low level of thinking.

Abstract

The challenges brought by Covid-19 have threatened not only the economy and health fields but also the educational sectors. In light of education, this issue has led to the swift migration of the learning process from conventional mode to online learning which has resulted in another bottleneck. The current study explores the perception of EFL Indonesian college students about the challenges and benefits of learning speaking through the online system during the Covid-19 outbreak. Forty-five college students participated in this study and were inquired through a semi-structured questionnaire in the weeks following the final term examinations for the academic year 2020-2021. The data was probed by using grounded theory proposed by Creswell. The findings exposed that effectiveness, online benefits, and improvement opportunities were the benefits obtained by students from the online learning. Meanwhile, distraction and information overload, a technical error in online learning technology and internet connectivity matters as well as limited interaction and inadequate support were hindrances that often hampered the students.  Consequently, this scholarly paper also provides advice on the essence of the readiness of adequate facilities and the collaboration from stakeholders; government, teachers, students, and parents to successfully implement online learning.

Abstract

Abstrak  Penelitian ini merupakan Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) yang bertujuan untukmeningkatkan aktivitas dan prestasi belajar mahasiswa pada Mata Kuliah Reading for Academic Purposes.Subjek Penelitian adalah mahasiswa semester III Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris FKIP UMSU.PTK tersebut dilaksanakan dalam tiga siklus melalui pendekatan kualitatif-kuantitatif untuk mendapatkan data penelitian.Data kuantitatif diperoleh melalui pemberian tes, sedangkan data kualitatif didasarkan pada hasil observasi aktivitas mahasiswa dan dosen dalam kegiatan pembelajaran.Data penelitian dianalisis melalui kajian-kajian reflektif pada setiap siklusnya. Hasil analisis data menunjukkan bahwa pada siklus Idan II masih ditemui beberapa kekurangan karena sebagian besar mahasiswa belum terbiasa dengan kondisi belajar melalui model CIRC. Kekurangan tersebut pada siklus I terindikasi dari masih rendahnya tingkat aktivitas mahasiswa dalam proses pembelajaran dengan persentase rata-rata 54%, aktivitas dosen 67%, dan kemampuan mahasiswa dengan skor perolehan rata-rata hanya mencapai 57 dengan persentase keberhasilan 14%. Sedangkan pada siklus II, aktivitas pembelajaran sudah mengalami perubahan yang lebih baik namun persentase capaian keberhasilan yang ditetapkan dalam penelitian ini, 75% belum terpenuhi. Aktivitas mahasiswa dan dosen dalam pembelajaran mengalami peningkatan dengan persentase rerata masing-masing 62% dan 74% serta kemampuan mahasiswa dengan skor rata-rata 70 dan persentase keberhasilan 67%. Bagaimanapun, pada siklus III terjadi peningkatan yang sangat signifikan dalam hal aktivitas pembelajaran dan kemampuan mahasiswa dengan persentase rata-rata 79 % pada aktivitas mahasiswa, aktivitas dosen 81%, dan nilai rata-ratakemampuan mahasiswa 76dengan persentase keberhasilan sebesar 86%.Berdasarkan hasil analisis data tersebut di atas dapat disimpulkan bahwa model pembelajaran CIRCsecara signifikan dapat meningkatkan aktivitas dan prestasi belajar mahasiswa. Keywords: Aktivitas Belajar, Prestasi Belajar, Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC), Reading for Academic Purposes

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat pengaruh penerapan strategi Group to Group Exchange Berbantu Media Microblogging Edmodo terhadap Prestasi Belajar Mahasiswa Pada Mata Kuliah English Syntax. Jenis penelitian yang diterapkan adalah penelitian experimen semu (quasy experiment) dengan desain nonequivalent control group. Desain ini dipilih karena subjek secara alami telah terbentuk dalam satu kelompok utuh (naturally formed intact group). Penelitian ini dilakukan pada mahasiswa semester V Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris FKIP UMSU, dengan sampel terdiri atas dua kelas yakni V-C pagi sebagai kelas eksperimen dan V-A pagi sebagai kelas kontrol, yang dipilih dengan menggunakan cluster random sampling. Data penelitian dianalisis dengan menerapkan formula uji t. Hasil analisis data diperoleh nilai thitung adalah 2,5. Sementara itu, nilai ttabel dengan tingkat kebebasan df = N1+N2-2 = 39+39-2 = 76 dan taraf signifikan 5% adalah sebesar 1,99. Dari perhitungan tersebut dapat dilihat bahwa thitung lebih besar dari pada ttabel (thitung > ttabel) yakni 2,5 > 1,99. Dengan demikian dapat disimpulkan bahwa H0 ditolak dan Ha diterima. Dengan kata lain, ada pengaruh signifikan Strategi Group to Group Exchange Berbantu Media Microblogging Edmodo terhadap Prestasi Belajar Mahasiswa pada Mata Kuliah English Syntax.

Abstract

This study aims to produce an innovative learning model based on Microblogging Edmodo.  This research was conducted through the application of Research and Development (R&D) methods which included several stages of research, it is started from designing SCL learning models based on microblogging edmodo, validation, and trials (small and large scale). The results of the study showed that the innovation of student-centered learning models based on edmodo e-learning microblogging was feasible to be applied in the learning process. It can be seen from the validation reaches 79.16%. The feasibility of the application is also strengthened by the increasing of the average percentage from audience validation. It results of 77.33% in small-scale trials and 91.30% in large-scale trials. This percentage shows that SCL learning models based on e-learning microblogging edmodo can be applied to students

Abstract

This study aims to design a learning model that is active, fun, and without pressure called the AMETTA learning model. Research activities are carried out by applying a mixed research method that combines qualitative and quantitative data analysis with the stages of research activities, including literature studies, field studies, data collection, data analysis, and designing learning models. The results show that the AMETTA learning model design is suitable for use as a learning model to improve learning quality based on experts' feedback. This feasibility is also supported by an increase in the percentage of students' learning success, which is significant between the initial and final tests on small-scale (34.28%) and large-scale (38.47%) trials that this learning model is useful for implementation in learning activities. The AMETTA learning model meant is active, fun, and stress-free learning through the application of varied and exciting learning methods and media and the implementation of the Brain Gym in the learning process.

Abstract

Penelitian ini merupakan Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) yang bertujuan untukmeningkatkan prestasi belajar mahasiswa pada Mata Kuliah English Syntax. Subjek Penelitian adalah mahasiswa Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris FKIP UMSU. PTK tersebut dilaksanakan dalam tiga siklus pembelajaran melalui pendekatan kualitatif-kuantitatif untuk mendapatkan data penelitian. Data kuantitatif diperoleh melalui pemberian tes, sedangkan data kualitatif didasarkan pada hasil observasi aktivitas mahasiswa dan dosen dalam kegiatan pembelajaran.Data penelitian dianalisis melalui kajian-kajian reflektif pada setiap siklusnya. Hasil analisis data menunjukkan bahwa pada siklus Itelah terjadi peningkatan hasil belajar mahasiswa dengan persentase keberhasilan 38,10% dibandingkan dengan hasil belajar mahasiswa sebelum diberikan tindakan pada siklus I (23,91% mahasiswa yang berhasil). Namun, pada siklus ini masihditemui beberapa kekurangan karena sebagian besar mahasiswa belum terbiasa dengan kondisi belajar melalui model pembelajaran Group Investigation. Kekurangan pada siklus I terlihat dari masih rendahnya tingkat aktivitas mahasiswa dalam proses pembelajaran dengan persentase rata-rata 67,26%, aktivitas dosen 75,05%, dan kemampuan mahasiswa dengan skor perolehan rata-rata hanya mencapai 71,90 dengan persentase keberhasilan 54,35%. Dalam siklus kedua, aktivitas proses belajar mengajar berjalan lebih baik. Aktivitas mahasiswa dan dosen dalam pembebelajaran mengalami peningkatan dengan skor persentasi 71,88% dan 83.77%,dengan tingkat kelulusan 58,70%. Penguasaan mahasiswa terhadap materi juga mengalami peningkatan dengan nilai rata-rata 74,40%. Pelaksanaan siklus III ini bertolak dari permasalahan pada tahap tindakan II. Hasil rata-rata nilai kemampuan mahasiswa terhadap penguasaan materi yang diperoleh pada tindakan III adalah 85,83, dengan tingkat kelulusan 91,30%. Nilai rata-rata aktivitas mahasiwa dalam PBM adalah 78,80%. Sementara, aktivitas dosen dalam pembelajaran juga mengalami perbaikan dengan baik, dengan persentasi 87,70%. Berdasarkan hasil analisis Data tersebut di atas dapat disimpulkan bahwa Model Pembelajaran Group Investigation berbantu media microblogging edmodo secara signifikan dapat meningkatkan prestasi belajar mahasiswa, khususnya pada Mata Kuliah English Syntax. Keywords: Prestasi Belajar, Group Investigation, Microblogging Edmodo, Syntax

Abstract

This activity is Bandicam-based learning media workshop for teacher aims to elevate the competence of teachers in utilizing online learning media in order to create more interesting/interactive/communicative teaching and learning activities, particularly during the Covid 19 pandemic. In an effort to realize this goal, this activity is carried out in collaboration with partner schools through socialization method and workshop. Based on the results, the teachers reveal that this activity was very benefeted for them in enriching the insight and creativity of the teachers to apply more interesting and interactive learning media for online learning so that students would become more motivated and enthusiastic in participating in learning. It is indicated from the ability of teachers to produce learning videos that are quite interesting and communicative through the Bandicam application.
