Abstract

ABSTRACTBackground: Infectious diseases are one of the major causes of death worldwide, mostly caused by bacteria. The use of less targeted antibiotics leads to resistance cases, thus encouraging the discovery of  alternative  medicine.In  general,  gedy  leaves  are  known  as  animal  feed  but gedy  leaves  contain antibacterials such as flavonoids, saponins, tannins and terpenoids. Research Purpose:This study aims to determine the antibacterial activity of ethanol extract of gedy leaves on the growth of E. coli and S. aureus. Research Method: This research uses post test only control design, free variable is ethanol extract of gedi leaves and dependent variable is bacterial growth inhibition zone. Ginger leaf ethanol extract was obtained by maceration method for 3 x 24 hours. The test of antibacterial activity using the well diffusion method. Research result: The results of ethanol extract of gedi leaf with concentration of 2.5 mg/ml, 1.25 mg/ml and 0.625 mg/ml resulted in inhibition zone to E. coli growth successively; they were 11.33 mm, 8 mm and 6.3 mm. Extracts of the same concentration also showed inhibition of S. aureus growth with inhibit zone of 8 mm, 3.6 mm and 2 mm. Conclution:The conclusion of this research is the extract ethanol of gedi leaf has antibacterial activity against E. coli and S. aureus.Keywords: Antibacterial,E. coli and S. aureus , Gedi leaf (Abelmoschus manihot L.), Infection.

Abstract

The plant andong leaf is a medicinal plant that has not been widely used and contains phenolic, flavonoids,tanins and saponins has many benefits, one of which lower blood glucose levels. This study aim to look at the effects of decrease in blood glucose levels in  mice that induced by STZs. The method used was experimental research design is RAL with treatment variations leaf extracts 15%, 30% and 45%, glibenclamid as positive control and Na. CMC negative control. The results were analyzed by ANOVA and continued with Duncan. The results showed that there is a very real difference in the treatment given, andong leaf extracts concentrations is themost effective extracts 15% with the average is 17,67 mg/dL on the hour to three.Key words : Leaf andong, antidiabetic, Mus musculus, streptozotocin.

Abstract

This research was carried out to determine the content of secondary metabolites contained in the ethanol extract of bitter melon (Momordica charantia L.) and antipyretic and antiinflammatory effects on mice. Bitter melon extract obtained by maceration method using ethanol 96%. Bitter melo ethanol extract was made in three variations of dose 50 mg / KgBW, 150 mg / KgBW, and 250 mg / KgBW. The content of secondary metabolites determined phytochemical Skrining by TLC (thin layer chromatography) with specific reagent. Antipyretic effect performed by vaccine DPT (Diphtheria Pertussis Tetanus) as inducers of fever and Parasetamol 500 mg as a positive control and antiinflammatory effect using the method of edema artificial on the soles of the mice foot with carrageenan 2% as an aphrodisiac edema and Diclofenac Sodium 50 mg as a positive control. Subjects used is a white male mice were given intraperitoneally (i.p). Analysis of the data using ANOVA statistical analysis and continued with LSD Post Hoc test. Phytochemical screening results showed that ethanol extract of bitter melon contains alkaloids, tannins, flavonoids, saponins, and triterpenoids. The results indicated that ethanol extract of bitter melon at dose of 150 mg/KgBW has antipyretic effect with total temperature decrease 1,1oC and anti-inflammatory effects with the largest of inflammation inhibition percent by 68.57%. One way ANOVA analysis signify a probability value (p) < 0.05 with 95 % of confidence level that indicate a significant influence of ethanol extract of bitter melon to its antipyretic and antiinflammatory effects on male mice.Keywords : Antipyretic, Anti-inflammatory, Momordica charantia, Bitter melon

Abstract

ABSTRACTBackground: Green  gedi leaves  (Abelmoschus manihot (L.)  Medik)  is one plant that has efficacy in treating various diseases one of which is antidiabetic. The nature of the active substance green gedi leaves that capable lower blood glucose levels are flavonoids. Purpose: The purpose of this  study  was  to  determine  the effective  concentration  of  the  extract  of  green  gedi  leaves (Abelmoschus  manihot  (L.)  Medik)  to  lower  the  blood  glucose  levels on  mice  Induced  by Streptozotocin. Method: This type of research is experimental research that consists of 5 treatments with 3 variations dose and 2 controls. The study was conducted by measuring the blo od glucose levels in mice, blood glucose levels after induction to return normal blood glucose levels after oral administration with a suspension of Na. CMC as a control, and the suspension glibenclamid as a comparison with the extract of green gedi leaves concentration of 30 mg/KgBB, 60 mg/KgBB and 90 mg/KgBB with a time of observation for seven days. Result: The data obtained were analyzed using ANOVA and LSD. Conclusion: From this study that the green gedi leaf extract (Abelmoschus manihot (L.) Medik) at a concentration of 90 mg/kgBB is more effectife to give antidiabetic effect with the average reduction in blood glucose levels reach 68,67 mg/dL to mice.Keywords: antidiabetic, abelmoschus manihot (L.) Abstract

ABSTRACT Background: Free radicals and antioxidant were widely discussed in world of health because most of the diseases were initiated by presence of oxidation reaction in the body. The process of free radical formation could be inhibited by the presence of antioxidant. Antioxidant was a compound that can protect the biological system in the body. Research Purpose: This research aimed to analyze the potential of fruits and seeds of Morinda citrifolia L. as antioxidant which could counteract free radicals using DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) method. Research Method:This research used experimental method with post test only control design. The research was located in Integrated Laboratory of Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy Laboratory of Faculty of Pharmacy of Halu Oleo University. Samples of this research were fruit and seed ethanol extract of Morinda citrifolia L.which were taken in West Kendari, Kendari City. The independent variables from this research were fruit ethanol extract and seed ethanol extract of cheese fruit and dependent variable was antioxidant potential. Potential and antioxidant activity (IC50) were tested by measuring DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) uptake using a spectrophotometer. Antioxidant activity (IC50) was analyzed using a linear regression equation. Research Result:The result of this research showed that there was a color changing of DPPH from purple to yellow on fruits ethanol extract and seeds ethanol extract of Morinda citrifolia L. and had antioxidant activity about IC50 398,99 ppm and 401,37 ppm, respectively.Conclusion: Conclusion from this research revealed that fruit ethanol extract and seed ethanol extract of Morinda citrifolia L.has weak antioxidant activity.Keywords : Antioxidant activity, DPPH method, IC50, Morinda citrifolia L.

Abstract

ABSTRACTBackground: Abelmoschus manihot L.are widely used  as a daily dish  of dishes and traditional medicine to treat various diseases. It contains alkaloids, triterpenoids, saponins, and flavonoids wich can be toxic agent at variable dose. Purpose: This study aimed determine the effect of ethanol extract of abelmoschus manihot L. on histopatologic image of mice liver tissue.  Methods: This is quasi experimental study  with post test only control group design. Fourty five mice  (mus musculus)  as the subject of this research, they divided into 5 groups, group I threated by 50 mg /kgBB extract, group II threated by 200 mg / kgBB extract, group III threated by 800 mg / kgBB extract, group IV threated by 3,200 mg / kgBB extract, and group V as negative control. Treatment was done for 14 days and terminated at next day for histopatology examination use them liver tissue. Result: Histopathological examination of liver cells within normal limits. In the treatment group of 50 mg liver tissue of mice who died during treatment on day 7 and day 10 showed liver tissue necrosis. In the treatment group of 200 mg and 800 mg of liver tissue showed the presence of liver cell necrosis, and cell boundaries appeared unclear. In the treatment group of 3200 mg liver tissue showed necrotic cells, lysi s cells, unclear  cell  boundaries  and  necrotic  cells  more  widely.Conclusion:  As  a  conclusion  there  an histopatologic changes of  microscopic examination of mice liver cells in the form of necrosis and, there is not significant difference in ALT and AST  between the control group.Keywords : Abelmoschus manihot L. extract, acute toxicity, liver histopathology

Abstract

ABSTRACT Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease in which the patient has excess glucose levels in the blood. Pare (Momordica charantia L.) is one of the plants that have efficacy in treating various diseases one of them is antidiabetes. Activity of active substances from the pare may play a role in lowering blood sugar levels. This research is done to know the effect of increasing concentration of pare extract to decrease blood glucose level in mice induced by streptozotocin.This study was experimental laboratory, the study was done by measured  the initial blood sugar level in mice, sugar content after induction of steptozotosin, and after administration of 100 mg / kgBW extract test, 250 mg / kgBW and 400 mg / kgBW with observation time for 7 days , as well as gave metformin suspension as a positive control.The results showed that the optimum value of antidiabetic activity of ethanol extract of pare fruit at a concentration of 400 mg / kgBW and had an average decrease of 122 mg / dl.Keywords: Antidiabetes, Momordica charantia L., Streptozotocin
