Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh rendahnya prestasi belajar mahasiswa di Universitas Putera Batam. Hal ini tergambar dalam hasil tes mahasiswa yang belum memenuhi Kriteria kelulusan yang ditetapkan. Permasalahan dalam pembelajaran bahasa Indonesia, yaitu (1) budaya membaca mahasiswa masih sangat minim, (2) mahasiswa kesulitan dalam mengembangkan ide dan gagasannya ke dalam bentuk tulisan secara sistematis, (3) metode yang digunakan belum bervariatif serta belum disesuaikan dengan materi serta kebutuhan mahasiswa, dan (4) media yang digunakan selama proses pembelajaran belum mengacu pada media interaktif. Penelitian bertujuan untuk menjelaskan pengaruh metode Quantum Learning berbasis media interaktif terhadap prestasi belajar mata kuliah umum bahasa Indonesia mahasiswa di Universitas Putera Batam. Metode penelitian ini menggunakan metode quasy experiment (eksperimen semu). Populasi dan sampel penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa di Universitas Putera Batam. Pengambilan sampel dilakukan dengan cara simple random sampling. Sampel penelitian terdiri atas kelas eksperimen dan pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui instrumen, yaitu angket dan tes. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa prestasi belajar siswa pada mata kuliah umum bahasa Indonesia meningkat dan berpengaruh dengan menerapkan metode Quantum Learning berbasis media interaktif. Berdasarkan hasil analisis data, dapat diperoleh  sedangkan   = 1,6607  pada taraf nyata dengan = 0,05 dan dk = 56. Hipotesis yang menunjukkan  diterima karena . Selain itu, tidak terdapat interaksi antara metode Quantum Learning dengan media interaktif dalam mempengaruhi prestasi belajar mahasiswa. Hasil analisis data menunjukkan bahwa  <  (0,03 < 1,35) untuk interaksi = 0,05.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to identify the students’ hands shake and voice trambles in conducting presentation. The method used is qualitative describtive method. In data collection, researcher applied the closed quesionnaire through fifty students in three classes and to analyse the data by comparing and categorisation according to each its parts. And result displays in the form of text, table and chart. The result of this present research were found by the fifty students which were involved in the presentation. The first result were 33 students who got hands shake an there were 17 students who did not got hands shake in conducting presentation. the second, there were 34 students who got voice trembles and 16 students who did not got voice trembles in doing the class presentation. The most dominant faced by students in doing presentation is the voice trembles and the more dominant is the hands shake as found 16 students.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to find out how the ability of students to speak English before and after the experiment of the direct method and whether the students’ speaking ability improve by approaching the direct method directly through mastering grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation by, (Villalobos, 2010). And the experimental research model used is one group of pre-test and post-test experimental design (Cohen, Manion & Morrison, 2007), experimental (O1 X O2) Methods of data collection are consist of observation, interview and recording. Data analysis through grouping and comparison by category; unsatisfied category (US), fair category (F), good category (G), very good category (V) and excellent category (E). The results of the research base on the pre-test were included in the US category = 10 students, F = 26 students, G = 15 students, VG = 2 students and E = 0, no result found and post-test student learning outcomes US = 0, no result found, F = 7 students, G = 22 students, VG = 20 students and E = 4 students. Then the positive effect of using the direct method results is the students' ability in speaking English increased higher, refers to the pre-test results the student ability category found in US categories and no found the same category in the post-test results, the students ability category no result found in category E and the US category.

Abstract

This research is aimed to find a comparison of how each language (colloquail, slang, transformational) are formed, in what context is used, and what is the perspective of the use of these three languages. This research is descriptive qualitative research. At the stage of providing data, researchers use Simak and Cakap technique. In the process of data analysis, the researchers use the method of padan and agih method. The agih method is used to look at the slang language constructs in each period while the method of padan is used to describe the adolescent Perspective in the use of colloquail, slang and transformational language from time to time. The result of the research shows that the way how the three non standard language is different from each other. Colloquail language are formed by changing “a” to “e” in final syllable, Deletion of First Syllable, New word formation, Additional Syllable “nge”, Change “a” to “e” in final syllable and add “an”, and Additional particle “deh”, “aja”, “kok”, “ama”. Slang language are formed by Initial Each Word Collection, Word letter choosen, Deletion of initial letter and syllable, Change of “s’ to “c”, Change of “k” to “q”, Change of “au” to “w”, Change of “u” to “oe”, Adoption of basic words, English language abbreviation, English-Indonesia Abreviation, Citation and new word construction.Transformational language are formed by Ga, Gi, Gu, Ge, Go formula after single vowel sound syllable, Ga/G, Gi, Gu, Ge, Go formula before dipthong sound syllable, Ga, Gi, Gu, Ge, Go formula before last consonant sound, and Ga, Gi, Gu, Ge, Go formula for cluster consonant. The colloquial language usage context is more influenced by the habitual aspects heard by speakers in their environment such as at home, in markets, playgrounds, and certain other events. Slang languages, its use is influenced by the juvenile community environment where users only on the uses level 12 to 19 years. Transformational language was influenced by the desire to hide speech to people who were not from their groups like parents and strangers.

Abstract

This research investigated the mispronunciation of Putera Batam University EFL learners by adapting the standard of Received Pronunciation (RP) and the factors of English vowels and consonants mispronunciation. This descriptive qualitative research applied observational method with participatory technique in collecting data, and articulatory identity method in analyzing the data. The English mispronunciation was found in the EFL learners’ English pronunciation. The consonant sounds /ð/, /θ/, /th/, /z/, /r/, /ʃ/, /ʧ/, /ʤ/, /nj/, and consonant-closed syllable sound of /k/ were pronounced incorrectly. The consonant sound /ð/ was pronounced as /d/, /θ/ as /t/, /th/ as /t/, /z/as /ɉ/, /r/ as /ɾ/, /ʃ/ as /s/, /ʧ/ as /s/, /ʤ/ as /d/, and /nj/ is pronounced as /ɲ/. Consonant-closed syllable sound of /k/ is articulated as /Ɂ/. The vowel sounds /ə/ and /æ/ were pronounced incorrectly as /e/ and the diphthong sound /eɪ/ were pronounced incorrectly as /e/. These mispronunciation phenomena were caused by some factors based on their background. The factors were; the mother tongue interference (native language), the differences between Indonesian and English sound systems (phonetic ability), the educational background, and the environmental background (amount of exposure).

Abstract

This research aims to find out the Obstacle in English oral discourase faced by the 3rd semester students of Universitas Riau Kepulauan. To get the result A qualitatif methods applies in the research by using open questioner. The students of Universitas Riau Kepulauan have several obstacle in English speaking which are influenced by the lecturers, the students, the methods, material, lack of time, lack of vocabulary, lack of grammar and others. there are 140 data found from the students. The data related to the lecturers are 3 data, from the material are 3 data, from the methos are 6 data, from the grammar are 48 data, from the vocabulary are 22 data, cognitive are 14 data, psycomotor are 22 data, affective ara 4 data, time are 3 data. the data are analysed and described in the form of the table that follow by the explanation for each data from the table.

Abstract

Language is a means of communication between humans in people's lives in the sound of speech produced by human speech instruments. Language in its function as a means of communication its existence is very important in society. Without language in communicating, between speakers and interlocutors will have difficulty in capturing the communication message. Communication through language allows everyone to adjust to their physical and social environment and to learn the habits, culture and background of the interlocutor. Our culture judges that speaking using polite language will show our true ethics, education, and culture as human beings who are well respected as human beings. Whether or not a speech is polite depends on the size of the politeness of the people speaking a language. Speech in Indonesian is generally considered polite if speakers or speech partners use words that do not contain direct ridicule, do not command directly, and respect others. Good and correct use of language will be necessary in conveying messages to others. Both direct and indirect messages use message characteristics that need to be understood by others. The use of language to communicate is inseparable from the determinants of communication acts and the principles of politeness and realized in communication acts.
