Abstract

The study on research-based learning material needs to be introduced in universities in order to achieve student competence. The purpose of this study is to investigate the contribution of teaching materials for Islamic Studies courses to be internalized in order to achieve the competence of English literature study program. This research applied qualitative method using an action research approach. Data were collected using tests, observations and interviews. The data were analyzed in the form of student learning performance. Their performance included students' thinking styles, patterns of processing information, attitudes and their work. Based on Thorndike's theory of connectionism, it was found that the draft teaching materials implemented through the classroom learning process in the form of thinking styles and ways of processing information were in accordance with their competencies. The implementation of the learning process was carried out through the internalization of Islamic educational values which can be seen in the attitude of students' politeness and the work they obtained.

Abstract

Literature is a fiction in which the author has freedom in expressing their imagination. In viewing a film, the audience can represent the film according to what they see.  This can be seen from the story line, moral massage, character, and so on. The character in a literary work elevates the aesthetic value, any character can be described by the author. It can be contained in a literary works, because it is an idea or imagination of someone to created an aesthetic purposes. The ugliness in the character it is called as grotesque. The grotesque character cause their alienation from his society, because the structured of body in ugly or odd. Researcher look for data relating to the question of the problem, how the of Cavern Concept in Beauty and The Beast. In this study, researcher used descriptive methods according to Suryana (2010:20) “metode yang digunakan untuk mencari unsur-unsur, ciri-ciri, sifat-sifat suatu fenomena. Metode ini dimulai dengan mengumpulkan data, menganalisis data dan menginterpretasikannya.” These conflicts to revealing the cavern concept includes: (1) condemnation of a Prince become an ugly figure. (2) transformation into to a Beast. (3) character’s emotional changes, because he as a Beast. (4) beast’s alienation from his environment or his world.

Abstract

The research compared rascals in three Picaresque novels: Cannery Row, Candide or Optimism, and Don Quijote. It used Picaresque theories from Clarence Hugh Holman (1972), as well as Gustavo Pellon and Julio Rodriguez-Luis (1986), that specified rascal or rogue. This understanding explains how some Picaresque novels feature rascal characters who are silly, stupid, reckless, rude and have other negative traits, but they also have qualities of kindness, a good heart, and attentiveness hidden behind them. Mack and the boys, Candide, and Don Quijote are all depicted as rogues. The Picaresque element is used as a formula in the story to determine and exemplify rascal values. The researcher stated two problems related to Picaresque rascal: what are the similarities between Picaresque rascals in Cannery Row, Candide or Optimism, and Don Quijote? In addition, the purpose of this research is to identify Picaresque rascals in three objects. Furthermore, this research utilizes Ian Dey's (1993) literary criticism method, namely qualitative analysis. It is used to decipher the data of each object one by one and to obtain information about the Picaresque. The researcher then used Susan Bassnett's (1999) comparative method to compare topics. The similarities between the three objects are the results of this research. Abstract

AbstrakEfek globalisasi dan disrupsi pada masalah sosial menimbulkan demoralisasi dan deviasi. Wilayah yang mengalami masalah tersebut biasanya mengalami ketidakmampuan menyesuaikan diri dengan lingkungan sehingga terjadi perubahan karakter. Tercatat data di beberapa intansi seperti kejahatan, pelanggaran, perceraian, dan sebagainya meningkat pada setiap tahunnya. Upaya meminimalisir bertambahnya demoral diperlukan rehabilisasi sosial salah satunya dalam bentuk pembudayaan pendidikan karakter baik secara personal maupun lingkungan masyarakat. Pembudayaan pendidikan karakter menjadi penting karena karakter suatu bangsa sangat berperan terhadap pertahanan dan ketahanan eksistensi suatu bangsa. Pengabdian ini diarahkan pada pendampingan Penggunaan Bahasa dan Moderasi Beragama melalui pendekatan panel. Pengabdian ini dimaksudkan agar peserta dapat mengembalikan kognitif sosial pembudayaan pendidikan karakter melalui melalui bahasa dan moderasi beragama dilingkungannya sehingga diharapkan terbangunan mental dan kognitif yang sehat dalam menghadapi persoalan hidup. Subjek adalah para perwakilan dari beberapa organisasi keagamaan dan pemasyarakatan yang ada di Kecamatan Ciparay sebagai sampel. Metode pengabdian menggunakan PAR yang didesain melalui research and development diawali dari studi eksplorasi data, verifikasi model, implementasi model, evaluasi dan pengembangan, selanjutnya dianalisis. Hasil pengabdian menunjukan bahwa warga kecamatan Ciparay memahami pentingnya relevansi pendidikan karakter melalui bahasa dan moderasi beragama di masa globalisasi ini dan mereka optimis untuk mewujudkan dalam lingkungannya melalui perubahan pola sikap, pola pikir, pola komunikasi. Pengabdian ini mensarankan sosialisasi di wilayah yang dominan terdapat demoralisasi dan tidak ada faktor pendukung ketahanan karakter. AbstractThe effects of globalization and disruption on social problems lead to demoralization and deviation. Areas that experience these problems usually experience an inability to adapt to the environment so that character changes occur. It is recorded that data on several agencies, such as crime, violations, divorce, and so on, are increasing every year. Efforts to minimize the increase in demorality require social rehabilitation, one of which is in the form of cultivating character education both personally and in the community. Cultivating character education is important because the character of a nation plays a very important role in the defense and resilience of a nation's existence. This service is directed at assisting the Use of Language and Moderation of Religion through a panel approach. This dedication is intended so that the participants can restore the cognitive social culture of character education through language and religious moderation in their environment so that they are expected to develop a healthy mental and cognitive in dealing with life's problems. The subjects were representatives of several religious and correctional organizations in Ciparay District as samples. The service method uses PAR which is designed through research and development starting from data exploration studies, model verification, model implementation, evaluation and development, then analyzed. The results of the service show that residents of Ciparay sub-district understand the importance of the relevance of character education through language and moderation of religion in this globalization era and they are optimistic about realizing it in their environment through changes in attitudes, mindsets, and communication patterns. This service suggests socialization in areas where demoralization is dominant and there are no supporting factors for character resilience.

Abstract

This study examines the existence of women from the main character in novel using the feminism theory from Simone de Beauvoir. This study aims to identify the depiction of the main character and analyze the existence of women in the novel The Queen's Gambit by Walter Tevis. The data used is documentation using note-taking techniques and content analysis. The results of this study: (1) Women's representation in chess was often underestimated in the 1950-1960s era. (2) Discrimination against women cannot be avoided so that they do not get equal opportunities in the world of sports. (3) Beth, as the main character, is one of the pioneers in rejecting discriminatory treatment in sports, especially chess. (4) The main character describes women's existence through tenacity, belief, intelligence, attitude, and expressions of their defense. This research suggests that the existence of women can be fought for in sports, especially chess.
