Abstract

This paper aims to calculate and analyze the contribution of productivity of production factors capital andlabor and technology in manufacturing output growth in East Java. The role of technology in the productionprocess referred to as Total Productivity Factor (TPF). Analysis techniques used in this paper is the Residumethod, namely the difference between the growths in total output minus total productivity of factors ofproduction. The results showed that the majority of East Java’s manufacturing industry is labor-intensive industrieswith the technology that is not capital intensive. Thus, the strategy and policy development is the mobilizationof manpower and develop appropriate technology which does not absorb much capital. However, this labormobilization policy needs to consider enactment of the law of diminishing returns that can lower the marginalproductivity of manufacturing output in East Java. Keywords: Manufacturing industry, the residual method, the productivity of factors of production, total factorproductivity

Abstract

To enhance competition in the transport market, the Government of Indonesia has, since 2001, implemented deregulation policy for the flight sector. Through the decree of Minister of Transportation No. 11/2001, the requirements to obtain a flight operator license are simplified and an airline company can operate even without having to have its own plane. This research aims to analyze the condition before and after the flight deregulation policy. In particular, the purposes of this research are: (1) to analyze pattern of concentration for domestic commercial flight industry; (2) to calculate index of concentration for domestic commercial flight industry; (3) to analyze the market structureof domestic commercial flight industry; and (4) to analyze the implications of the flight deregulation policy in 2001. The measurement and analysis of the concentration pattern of domestic commercial flight industry are conducted using Hirschman-Herfindahl index, concentration ratio, and entropy index. The results show that the concentration level of domestic commercial flight industry in Indonesia is smaller under the new policy than that under the regulated regime. Not only the number of airline companies increases, but the share of domestic flight market is also more diversed. While the structure of domestic commercial flight market in Indonesia is still oligopoly, it changes from rigid into less rigid. Keywords: Concentration ratio; Hirschman-Herfindahl index; Entropy index; Domestic commercial flight industries; Flight deregulation policy.

Abstract

The automotive industry is one of the most important driving forces of economic growth. The development of the automotive industry in the provinces of DKI Jakarta, West Java, Central Java and East Java is very strategic, so the purpose of this study is to test and analyze the inputs that have a significant effect on the output of the automotive industry in the area. The method used is panel data regression for the period 2010-2014 because it follows the 2009 KBLI. The automotive industry ISIC code is 29100-29300 and 30911-30912. Estimation results show that capital, labor, raw material and energy inputs have a significant positive effect on the output of the automotive industry. This means that Cobb Douglas's theory can be used to explain automotive production in the area.

Abstract

Sectoral economic growth affects the level of poverty in the area. High economic growth does not merely reduce poverty. Equitable distribution of income is also a matter that needs to be considered in line with increased economic growth. High economic growth is the process of accumulation of sectoral economic growth that has undergone a structural shift in its journey. Changes in economic structure are marked by a decrease in the contribution of the agricultural sector and an increase in the contribution of the industrial sector, both in gross domestic product (GDP) and in employment. Economic growth needs to be directed towards economic sectors that are effective in reducing poverty and creating equitable distribution of income. The purpose of this study is to answer the question of how the influence of sectoral economic growth on poverty in East Java. For this purpose the panel data regression model is used. The selection of variables is based on research objectives. Agriculture sector GRDP (VP), industrial sector GRDP (VI) and service sector GRDP (VJ) represent sectoral economic growth. The results of the test show an increase in the contribution of the industrial sector effectively reduces poverty. In other words, between the agriculture, industry and services sectors, only the industrial sector has positive and significant parameters for poverty in East Java.

Abstract

The importance of food crop agriculture efficiency could be used today. Because we know that more inefficiencies in the agricultural sector of food crops illustrate that productivity has not run maximally. DEA is used in this study as an appropriate approach by using a non-parametric method. The production unit is in the form of a decision making unit (DMU) in which the DMU in this study is a food crop agricultural sub-sector in 29 districts in East Java. There occurred inefficiency of as many as 44.8 percent (29 districts) in East Java in 2017 for having the average efficiency score of less than 0.69, while the rest achieved the average technical efficiency of more than 0.31.
