Abstract

This research is aimed to improve the reading comprehension through schema activation strategy. Classroom Action Research (CAR) was conducted in two cycles and each cycle consisted of four phases. They were planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The subjects of the study were 34 students of Class VIII A of SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Godean. There were two forms of data in this study. The qualitative data were collected through observation and interview. The data were presented in the form of field notes and interview transcripts. Then, the quantitative data were collected through Pre-test, Posttest I, and Posttest II. In reference to the application of the two cycles, the results of the research revealed that use of schema activation strategy successfully improved the students‘reading comprehension. The students‘interest and attention in the process of teaching and learning English, especially reading improved. They were also able to explore many words related to the topic of the lesson. In relation to their comprehension of English texts, the students were able to identify main ideas and supporting details of paragraphs correctly. Strategi skema pada materi reading comprehension untuk meningkatkan ketertarikan siswaPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pemahaman reading comprehension melalui penggunaan Schema Activation Strategy. Dalam melakukan penelitian ini, Peneliti menggunakan Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) sebagai metode penelitian. Penelitian dilakukan dalam dua siklus dan masing-masing siklus terdiri dari empat fase. Yaitu fase persiapan, aksi, observasi dan refleksi. Subjek penelitian adalah 34 siswa dari kelas VIII A SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Godean. Ada dua macam data yang dihimpun pada penelitian ini. Data kualitatif dikumpulkan melalui observasi dan wawancara. Kemudian data dipresentasikan dalam bentuk catatan dan transkip wawancara. Sedangkan, data kuantitatif dikumpulkan melalui Pre-Test, Post-test I, dan Post-test II. Hasil yang didapatkan setelah menerapkan dua siklus, yaitu penggunaan Schema Activation Strategy berjalan sukses meningkatkan pemahaman siswa pada bab Reading. Minat siswa dan perhatian dalam proses pengajaran dan pembelajaran bahasa Inggris, khususnya peningkatan dalam pemahaman Reading. Para siswa mampu mengeksplorasi banyak kata terkait topik pelajaran. Para siswa juga mampu memahami teks Bahasa Inggris, siswa juga mampu untuk mengindentifikasi ide pokok dan juga detail paragaraf secara benar.

Abstract

Many studies of scientists who study the thoughts of Ferdinand De Saussure and Ibn Jinni on linguistics in particular, because both of them are monumental figures with real contributions in the civilization of linguistics or linguistics. Uncovering both theoretically is very influential in the development of linguistics. The father of modern linguistics is Ferdinand de Saussure, and the famous Arabic linguist, Ibn Jinni, the thoughts of the two figures become a valuable heritage in the world of scientific scholarship. The research method used is the library research. Researchers collect primary and secondary data in processing research material. Ferdinand de Saussure with his achievements as a linguist has laid the foundations of linguistic thinking such as langue-parole, significant-signified, arbitrary-motivated, and syntagmatic-paradigmatic. And so is Ibn Jinni who has formulated various terminologies about differences Kalam and Qaul, al-Luhgah ‘language’, arbiters as the basis for selecting letters and also word planners, and qiyas made it a method of creating new languages. Both figures equally consider the interrelationship of language and time, and the influence of social forces that influence language so that Saussure began the study of language by synchronic methods, not just diachronic. Where Ibn Jinni also uses social ta'lil, which is all returned to the speakers of the language it selfs. This research contributes in establishing linguistics that cannot be separated from the time and social that exists in that place.

Abstract

Hermeneutics is one of the keys out of the problematic understanding of the text, when the text is understood by only a few circles and is considered less appropriate to the current context, because it is not easy to interpret the classical books that are the hold of life, and are limited by the ages from its descent to in the present. Gadermen and Fazlur Rahman offer a concept of hermeneutics that both refer to the history of the text, and reconstruct the new understanding they analyzeby relating it to the current social context.Gadermen prefers to make hermeneutics an ontological basis, which is based on deep thought, while Fazlur Rahman makes hermeneutics a methodology in the function of ijtihad. Key Words : Gadamer, Fazlur Rahman, Hermeneutic Hermeneutika menjadi salah satu kunci keluar dari problematika pemahaman terhadap teks, disaat teks dipahami hanya oleh beberapa kalangan saja dan dianggap kurang sesuai dengan konteks saat ini,karena memang tidak mudah untuk menginterpretasikan kitab klasik yang menjadi pegangan hidup, dan terbatasi oleh zaman dari mulai turunnya sampai pada masa sekarang.Gadermen dan Fazlur Rahman menawarkan konsep hermeneutika yang sama-sama mengacu pada historis teks tersebut, dan merekontruksi pemahaman baru yang mereka analisis dengan mengaitkannya pada konteks sosial saat ini.Gadermen lebih pada menjadikan hermeneutika sebagai ontologis yaitu berdasarkan pemikiran yang dalam, sedangkan Fazlur Rahman menjadikan hermeneutika sebagai metodologis dalam fungsi ijtihad. Kata Kunci: Gadamer, Fazlur Rahman, Hermeneutika

Abstract

This study aims to determine the process of formulating the drama method and its effectiveness to improve speaking skills in second semester students majoring in English Education at IAIM Metro Lampung. This study used an experimental procedure where the researcher conducted a pre-test and post-test on 2 groups (control and experiment). The population of this study were second semester students majoring in English Education at IAIM Metro with a total of 20 children, consisting of 10 children for the control group and 10 children for the experimental group.This study aims to determine the process of formulating the drama method and its effectiveness to improve speaking skills in second semester students majoring in English Education at IAIM Metro Lampung. This study used an experimental procedure where the researcher conducted a pre-test and post-test on 2 groups (control and experiment). The population of this study were second semester students majoring in English Education at IAIM Metro with a total of 20 children, consisting of 10 children for the control group and 10 children for the experimental group. The results of this study are: 1) the process of preparing the drama method to improve speaking skills at IAIM Metro Lampung requires perseverance and thoroughness with the following steps: 1-Preliminary analysis,2- Product preparation,3- Product validation,4- Product revision ,5-Product trial, 6-Design revision, 7-Product production at the final stage. 2) The average score for the control group that did not use the drama method was 53.9, while the experimental group that used the drama method was 58.4. From the results of these values, the researchers calculated to with the results of 2,482 while the t value in (t-table) with a significance level of 5% was 2.10. Then it can be seen that the calculated t value is higher than the t-table value (2,482 > 2,10). With the conclusion that the use of the drama method can improve learning speaking skills in semester 2 IAIM Metro Lampung students.
