Abstract

The term “oxidation number” and related concept such as “electronegativity” and “formal charge” appear frequently in both elementary and advance chemistry text. However, it is evident from the literature (or textbooks) that these terms are often viewed to be synonymous. Incomplete explanation of the fundamental concept of oxidation number can lead that conclusions pertaining to such a misleading interpretation. This research was conducted to review the concepts from common used high school chemistry textbooks and these concepts were then transformed to 6 number open minded problems. These problems were then tested to 40 first semester chemistry program students in the University of Jambi who joining Basic Chemistry course. The result was about 80% of students give the right answer in determining oxidation number (problem number 1). But, in the certain molecule (problem number 2) they can’t determine correctly because they couldn’t use the “Rule” from initial understanding in high school. For the next problem (4a), none of the students give the right oxidation number of an atom and all of them can’t explain precisely correlation among oxidation number, electronegativity, and formal charge. The intent of this paper is to clarify the notion of oxidation number, electronegativity, and formal charge, describe their relationship (especially for high school chemistry textbooks), and criticize upon misleading application.

Abstract

Based on an extended theory of planned behavior (TPB), this study focused on five exogenous constructs (perceived benefits, facilitating condition, normative belief, behavioral belief, and control belief) that was established to predict behavioral intention and behavior of data-sharing. The research model was tested with 157 Indonesian researchers from science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). We applied the partial least squares (PLS) techniques to analyze the data. Seven out of eleven hypotheses are supported based on the significance test in through the PLS-SEM procedure. The study’s findings show that the proposed extended TPB is a valid and reliable framework for describing the data-sharing behavior of STEM researchers. This paper facilitates an advanced investigation through PLS-SEM approaches toward behavioral intention and behavior regarding data-sharing; the findings are among the first elaborated data-sharing report in the Indonesian context, a country with more than 200 thousand researchers.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the development of the assessment instrument for biology teachers in designing learning tools based on pedagogic and professional competencies and the principal's perception of the assessment instruments that have been developed. The type of research used is instrument development research from the ADDIE model, this model has 5 stages, namely: analysis, design, development, implementation and evaluation. Instrument products before being tested are validated, product validation is carried out by material experts and design experts. Material expert validation got a score of 92% in the "Very Appropriate" category, so the assessment instrument was said to be feasible. Furthermore, the validation of the design experts got a score of 92% in the "Very Appropriate" category, then the practicality of the instrument resulted in 92% in the "Very Practical" category. This assessment instrument was tested one by one by researchers on three principals in Tebo Regency, namely SMA Negeri 3, SMA Negeri 10 and MAN 2. The results of the one-on-one trial were: (1) On each item in the assessment instrument that had been made the material or message conveyed or the purpose of using the assessment instrument is clear to the user. (2) The impact on users is that it can make it easier to make assessments of teachers, the items are specific. (3) The feasibility of using the product is in accordance with the available time. (4) The suitability of the items of the assessment instrument with the real world according to the user is appropriate. The field trial stage obtained an effectiveness of 92% with the "Very Effective" category. Based on the results of the study, it was concluded that the assessment instrument developed could be used by school principals on biology teachers in designing learning tools based on pedagogic and professional competencies. Key words: assessment instruments, teaching tools, pedagogic and professional competence, high school biology teacher Abstrak  Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengembangan instrumen asesmen guru biologi dalam merancang perangkat pembelajaran berbasis kompetensi pedagogik dan profesional dan persepsi kepala sekolah pada instrumen asesmen yang telah dikembangkan. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian pengembangan instrumen dari model ADDIE, model ini terdapat 5 tahap yaitu: analysis, design, development, implementation dan evaluation. Produk instrumen sebelum diujicobakan terlebih dahulu divalidasi, validasi produk dilakukan oleh ahli materi dan ahli desain. Validasi ahli materi mendapatkan skor 92% kategori “Sangat Sesuai”, sehingga instrumen asesmen dikatakan layak. Selanjutnya validasi ahli desain mendapatkan skor 92% kategori “Sangat Sesuai”, kemudian praktikalitas instrumen dihasilkan sebesar 92% kategori “Sangat Praktis”. Intrumen asesmen ini diuji coba satu-satu oleh peneliti pada tiga kepala sekolah di Kabupaten Tebo yaitu SMA Negeri 3, SMA Negeri 10 dan MAN 2. Hasil uji coba satu-satu yaitu : (1) Pada tiap butir di dalam instrumen asesmen yang telah dibuat materi atau pesan yang disampaikan atau tujuan dari penggunaan instrumen asesmen tersebut sudah jelas bagi pengguna. (2) Dampak bagi pengguna yakni dapat mempermudah dalam melakukan asesmen kepada guru, itemnya sudah spesifik. (3) Kelayakan penggunaan produk tersebut sudah sesuai dengan ketersediaan waktu yang ada (4) Kecocokan butir instrumen asesmen dengan dunia nyata menurut pengguna yaitu sesuai. Tahap uji coba lapangan diperoleh efektivitas sebesar 92% dengan kategori “Sangat Efektif”. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian disimpulkan bahwa instrumen asesmen yang dikembangkan dapat digunakan oleh kepala sekolah terhadap guru biologi dalam merancang perangkat pembelajaran berbasis kompetensi pedagogic dan profesional. Abstract

Literasi merupakan keterampilan dalam mengolah kata, angka dan informasi yang diperoleh melalui kegiatan membaca dan menulis. Kegiatan literasi menjadi salah satu kegiatan yang menunjang peningkatan mutu pendidikan. Penguasaan literasi yang baik tidak hanya dibutuhkan oleh siswa, tetapi juga perlu dimiliki oleh guru agar mampu mengembangkan materi pembelajaran yang baik sekaligus mendukung pengembangan karir profesionalnya. Untuk itu dilakukan penelitian mengenai literasi menulis ilmiah guru-guru IPA di Kabupaten Muaro Jambi. Penelitian dilakukan melalui observasi, diskusi terfokus dan angket yang dibagikan secara online. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa guru masih memiliki kesulitan dalam menulis ilmiah. Sebanyak 47% guru diketahui belum pernah menulis ilmiah. Rendahnya literasi guru juga sejalan dengan rendahnya aktivitas membaca yang jarang dilakukan. Hanya 6% guru yang secara rutin melakukan kegiatan membaca setiap harinya. Kesulitan guru dalam menulis ilmiah salah satunya disebabkan karena rendahnya tingkat literasi guru.

Abstract

The results of the initial observations showed that the low science process skills of students were caused because students were rarely involved in learning activities. The low science process skills of students in low student learning outcomes. The 21st century learning model that is recommended to be used in the 2013 curriculum that can be applied in improving students' science process skills is a project-based learning model. This study aims to analyze the science process skills of class VIII A students of SMPN 30 Muaro Jambi in science learning by applying the Project Based Learning (PjBL) learning model. This research uses Classroom Action Research (CAR). The results showed that the science process skills of grade VIII A students of SMPN 30 Muaro Jambi improved after the project-based learning model was applied. It is concluded that the project-based learning model can improve students' science process skills. Keywords: Science Process Skills, PjBL, SMP ABSTRAK Observasi  pendahuluan menunjukkan rendahnya  keterampilan proses sains peserta didik disebabkan karena peserta didik jarang dilibatkan  dalam aktivitas pembelajaran. Rendahnya KPS peserta didik mengakibatkan hasil belajar peserta didik ikut rendah. Model pembelajaran abad 21 yang direkomendasikan penggunaannya dalam kurikulum 2013 yang dapat diterapkan untuk meningkatkan keterampilan proses sains peserta didik adalah model project based learning. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis keterampilan proses sains peserta didik kelas VIII A SMPN 30 Muaro Jambi pada pembelajaran IPA  dengan menerapkan model pembelajaran Project based Learning. Penelitian ini menggunakan Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) . Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa keterampilan proses sains peserta didik kelas VIII A SMPN 30 Muaro Jambi  meningkat setelah menerapkan model pembelajaran project based learning.Disimpulkan bahwa model project based learning dapat meningkatkan keterampilan proses sains peserta didik. Abstract

Berdasarkan hasil survey, sebagian kalangan pendidik, dalam membuat dan mempublish sebuah artikel ilmiah yang bereputasi tidak mudah. Hal ini disebabkan karena masih terbatasnya pengetahuan para guru terkait teknik penulisan artikel yang baik dan benar serta kurangnya sumber informasi yang tersedia pada lingkungan pendidikan formal terutama dalam penelusuran dan trik dapat menembus jurnal-jurnal yang bereputasi. Melalui forum workshop, tim pengabdi berupaya memfasilitasi membantu kesulitan guru dalam mempublish sebuah jurnal. Peserta kegiatan pengabdian ini adalah para guru-guru bidang studi SMAN 2 Sungai Penuh sebanyak 18 peserta. Implementasi pelaksaanaan kegiatan menggunakan metode ceramah, diskusi, tanya jawab, praktek penyusunan dan pendampingan dengan teknik evaluasi penilaian selama proses kegiatan bersifat refleksi, responsif, feedback dan persepsi peserta. Sebelum kegiatan dilakukan, respon peserta mengenai pemahaman tentang menulis jurnal di kategorikan cukup baik, hal ini dikarenakan tidak semua peserta memiliki pengetahuan cara publikasi agar bisa tembus diskala nasional maupun internasional. Setelah diberi pebekalan, diakhir kegiatan para peserta diminta kembali responnya. Hasil menunjukkan rata-rata tingkat pemahaman peserta sudah pada kategori baik. Berdasarkan hasil tersebut, dapat disimpulkan guru telah memahami bagaimana membuat jurnal yang baik sehingga bisa publish, ini menunjukkan indikasi jika guru-guru sudah mampu dan siap menghasilkan sebuah jurnal. Improving Highschool Teachers’ Academic Article Publishing Skills in SMAN 2 Sungai Penuh  Based on preliminary survey, some educators, in creating and publishing a reputable journal is not easy, this is due to the limited knowledge of teachers regarding good and correct methodological techniques for writing articles and the lack of available sources of information in the formal education environment, especially in tracing and tricks. can be acceptable in reputable journal. Through this workshop forum, the service team seeks to facilitate teachers' difficulties in publishing a journal. The participants of this community service are 18 teachers at SMAN 2 Sungai Penuh, Jambi. The implementation of the activity uses the lecture method, discussion, question and answer, practice of preparation and assistance with evaluation techniques during the activity process which is reflection, responsive, feedback and participant perception. Before the activity was carried out, the participants' responses regarding understanding about journal writing were categorized as quite good, this was because not all participants had knowledge of how to publish so that they could be published on a national or international scale. After being given supplies, at the end of the activity the participants were asked to return their responses. The results show that on average the participants are in the category of good level of understanding, it can be concluded that the teacher already understands how to make a good journal so that it can publish, this shows an indication if the teachers are able and ready to produce a journal.

Abstract

The ability to think critically is very important to support the progress of education. In developing good mastery of learning concepts, students' critical thinking skills are needed. The development of critical thinking skills can make students give up, so it takes a firm belief in students' abilities in overcoming difficulties so they can become more advanced. This study aims to see the effect of the Think Talk Write (TTW) and Self Efficacy on students' critical thinking skills in the matter of reaction rate. The sample used consisted of 2 classes at SMA Adhyaksa 1 Jambi City. The data collection instruments used were observation sheets, self-efficacy, and essay tests. The data analysis used was 2-way ANOVA. The results showed that learning using the TTW and Self Efficacy affected students' critical thinking skills with an average of 71% from meeting 1, meeting 2, and meeting 3. Then there is an interaction between the Think Talk Write and Self Efficacy on students' critical thinking skills seen from a significance value of 0.000 <0.05.Keywords:Critical thinking; Reaction rate; Self-efficacy; Think talk write

Abstract

The powerful performance of TiO2 and its doped as photocatalyst material initiated the finding of new technique that efficient and effective to degrade the organic pollutant, i.e., azo dyes. This study examined photocatalyst film's photoactivity, TEMPO-oxidized cellulose-containing N-TiO2 (TOC/N-TiO2), on the degradation of azo dyes. TEMPO-oxidized cellulose, which has a negative charge, was sequentially mixed and stirred in the suspension of TiO2 and doped TiO2. This experiment utilized several instruments to determine the physicochemical properties of the photocatalyst film. The UV-DRS and diffractogram data confirmed the anatase phase as the only phase found in N-TiO2, which has a lower bandgap value than the anatase TiO2. These data demonstrated the superior photocatalytic of TOC/ N-TiO2 against azo dyes.Keywords: Doped-TiO2; Film; Photocatalyst; TEMPO-oxidized cellulose nanofiber

Abstract

Purpose of the study: This research was conducted to analyze the test instruments used to measure students' HOTS abilities on static fluid material at Senior high school 2 Jambi City. Methodology: The evaluation instrument provided was in the form of 20 items of two-tier multiple choice questions related to static fluid material. The Rasch model is used to get fit items. This analysis was carried out with the help of Ministeps software. Respondents in this study were 36 students of class XI MIPA 1 Senior high school 2 Jambi City. Main Findings: From the output of the Ministeps program, the results obtained were 20 questions according to the Rasch model with an average Outfit MNSQ score for person and item respectively 0.94 and 0.94. While the Outfit ZSTD values ​​for persons and items are 0 and -0.1 respectively, while the reliability of the instrument expressed in Cronbach's alpha is 0.79. Novelty/Originality of this study: The evaluation instrument used for physics subjects on static fluid material is fit with the Rasch model. so that the instrument meets the criteria for use.

Abstract

Miana plants (Coleus) are plants with compound interest types. Miana leaves have various bioactive compounds and are widely used to treat various diseases such as fever, colds, coughs, headaches, asthma, constipation, and skin diseases. There are several types of miana plants, such as Coleus scutellarioides (L.) Benth., Coleus aromaticus Benth., Coleus atropurpureus (L.) Benth. and Coleus blumei benth. This review aims to review the content of bioactive compounds and chemical constituents of the plant and its potential as a drug candidate. The method applied to the review articles is in the form of literature studies from national and international journals. Based on the data used, the n-hexane extract of miana leaves found 11 chemical compounds. Then based on the phytochemical screening of miana plants, several bioactive compounds were produced such as sterols, terpenoids, alkaloids, phenols, flavonoids, amino acids, glycosides, lactones, catechols, and tannins. The function of the Coleus aromaticus plant is as an antioxidant, antiepileptic, antiurolytic, anticancer, antidiabetic, anthelmintic, antiviral, antiprotozoal activity, the inhibitory activity of microorganisms, against digestive diseases, respiratory disorders, and against cardiovascular disorders
