Abstract

Backscatter coefficient value (σ°) is a representation value of an interaction of two parameters; which are radar parameter and terrain parameter. Constrain that often occured on SAR system is that different objects seem to look similar on the image, or the other way. Backscatter coefficient value from various land cover objects can be the problem solver. The aim of this research was to explore the land cover backscattering value on different polarisation that is Co-polarisation (HH) and Cross-polarisation (HV), also the arise effects on classification accuracy. The the backscatter coefficient of each polarisation images (HH and HV) in which the DN has been calibrated, will be identified and then plotted into the charts. Then the polarization image will be classified based on simple land cover with unsupervised classification and accuracy testing. The results are charts and accuracy test and also the analysis of connection between backscatter coefficient influence on both polarisation (HH and HV) against land cover classification accuracy.Result of the backscatter coefficient value trend have shown that on HH polarisation the value is higher than HV polarisation on each land cover classes. However, classification accuracy on HV polarization with overall accuracy 64.06% is better than HH polarisation with overall accuracy 59.38%. This probably is caused by high contrast level (range) of backscatter coefficient in each land cover classes on polarization HV compared on HH polarisation. Keywords: Backscatter Coefficient, Polarization, Radar Parameter, Terrain Parameter, Land Cover

Abstract

Kata kunci: penginderaan jauh, estimasi, karbon hutan, indeks vegetasiABSTRACTForest carbon content estimations are often done by using transformation of vegetation index, where the value that obtained was a combination of several canals in the image to show the appearance of vegetation. The difficult terrain of mangrove forest made the transformation of vegetation index as one of the effective ways to estimate carbon. The objective of this study were to determine the extent of remote sensing data can be used and the most optimum vegetation index transformation in estimating the carbon content in the mangrove forest, so as to obtain a correlation between each vegetation index transformation that are used with the carbon content of the field and its level of accuracy. The method were using the calculation of carbon content at some point field samples and examine the correlations between the carbon content at the point of field samples with an index value of each vegetation index transformation that are used. The result of this study was a correlation with the level of accuracy and total carbon content of each vegetation index transformation that are used (SR, NDVI, TVI, RVI, SAVI, EVI) with field data. Radiometric correction was conducted with histogram adjustment or dark-pixel subtraction. EVI and TV are the best correlation and accuracy of vegetation index for estimating the carbon content of mangrove forest with R2 values of EVI = 0.72 and TVI = 0,63, and the RMSE of EVI ± 74.40139 tons/hectare and TVI ± 39.70762 tons/hectare. The conclusion of this study was known at the same level of atmospheric correction, EVI and TVI vegetation index have the best correlation and accuracy, so that EVI and TVI are the best vegetation index for estimating carbon mangrove forests. Keywords: remote sensing, estimation, forest carbon, vegetation index

Abstract

AbstractForest and land fires occur almost every year in Indonesia, especially in Sumatra and Kalimantan during the dry season. Detection of forest and land fires with satellite imagery uses an indicator called a hotspot. The hotspots used today in Indonesia are obtained from the processing of polar orbital satellite image data (MODIS and VIIRS) with a low temporal resolution, which is only six times a day. The purpose of this study is to utilize Himawari-8 satellite imagery data for the detection of forest and land fires that produce hotspots with a temporal resolution of 10 minutes, where the results are validated with polar imagery and field fire data. The research location is in Central Kalimantan Province, and the time of the study is September 2019. Data used for processing are 5 Advanced Himawari Imager channels, administrative boundary maps, and land cover. Processing of satellite imagery data includes the selection of cover pixels and administrative boundaries, determination of observation time, elimination of cloud pixels, Active Fire Monitoring Algorithm, and validation of results. Himawari-8 image data can be processed into hotspots with a temporal 10 minutes. Validation of polar images has an accuracy rate of 66.2% -75.4%, commission error 28.2-46.9% and omission error 24.6-33.8%. The high commission error on the VIIRS image is because the VIIRS image has a much higher spatial resolution compared to the Himawari-8 image.

Abstract

Estimation of aboveground carbon stock on stands vegetation, especially in green open space, has become an urgent issue in the effort to calculate, monitor, manage, and evaluate carbon stocks, especially in a massive urban area such as Samarinda City, Kalimantan Timur Province, Indonesia. The use of Sentinel-1 imagery was maximised to accommodate the weaknesses in its optical imagery, and combined with its ability to produce cloud-free imagery and minimal atmospheric influence. The study aims to test the accuracy of the estimated model of above-ground carbon stocks, to ascertain the total carbon stock, and to map the spatial distribution of carbon stocks on stands vegetation in Samarinda City. The methods used included empirical modelling of carbon stocks and statistical analysis comparing backscatter values and actual carbon stocks in the field using VV and VH polarisation. Model accuracy tests were performed using the standard error of estimate in independent accuracy test samples. The results show that Samarinda Utara subdistrict had the highest carbon stock of 3,765,255.9 tons in the VH exponential model. Total carbon stocks in the exponential VH models were 6,489,478.1 tons, with the highest maximum accuracy of 87.6 %, and an estimated error of 0.57 tons/pixel.
