Abstract

Football has a high incidence rate of injuries such as hamstring strain. Stretching exercise is an effort done to prevent injury. The purpose of this research is to investigate the effectiveness of muscle energy technique isometric and static stretching in increasing the flexibility of hamstring muscle. This research was experimental research with pre and post test two group design. The research involved 24 samples which were divide into 2 groups. Group 1 was given the isometric muscle energy technique treatment and group 2 was given the static stretching treatment.Mean different of hamstring muscle flexibility and after the treatment in each group was tested using paired sample t-test. Independent t-test obtained a result p = 0.000 (p<0.05 ). It can be concluded that muscle energy technique isometric is more effective than static stretching in increasing the flexibility of hamstring muscles.

Abstract

The research was aimed to compare the combination of ischemic compression technique and cryotherapy with contract relax stretching in decreasing pain of myofascial pain syndrome in upper trapezius muscle. This research was an experimental study with Randomized Pre and Post Test Group Design. Samples were divided into 2 treatment group that consist 10 samples for each. The first group treated with combination of ischemic compression technique with cryotherapy while the second one was treated with contract relaxes stretching. The results showed there was significant effect of each treatment to decrease pain p = 0.0001 ( p < 0.05 ). The results of independent t test showed p=0,598 (p > 0,05), so that there was no significant difference from decreased pain group 1 (combination of ischemic compression technique with cryotherapy) and group 2 (contract relax stretching). The first group mean’s was 2.650±1.051 whereas the second group mean’s was 3.120±1.091. In conclusion, the combination of ischemic compression technique with cryotherapy is as effective as contract relax stretching for decreasing pain of myofascial pain syndrome in upper trapezius at Department of Physical Therapy’s students of Udayana University

Abstract

Balance disorder is a common problem that found among senior citizens. Those problemswould arise from a balance disorder is an increased risk of falls among senior citizens. Thepurpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of core stability exercise inincreasing the dynamic balance among senior citizens. Experimental research was donewith randomized pre and post test control group design. Sample of 24 subjects were dividedinto two groups, each group consisting of 12 subjects. The first group as a control groupwith conventional conditions, while the second group as the treatment group with corestability exercise intervention. Dynamic balance was measured using TUGT (Times Up GoTest) and data analysis using independent t-test the mean difference obtained in the controlgroup with conventional condition 0.484 ± 0.431 and the mean difference between thetreatment groups with core stability exercise intervention 3.611 ± 0.918, the obtained valueof p = 0.000 (p <0.05). In conclusion, there was a significant difference in the dynamicbalance between the control group and the treatment group, in which the treatment groupwith core stability exercise intervention can significantly improve the dynamic balanceamong senior citizens.

Abstract

Overweight is generally caused as an imbalance between energy intake and calorie burning through physical activity. To overcome the overweight, an effective exercise is needed, one of them is aerobic exercise. Aerobic dance could be classified into low, moderate, and high intensity. The purpose of this study are to determine whether low intensity aerobic dance can decrease the percentage of subcutaneous fat more than moderate intensity. Experimental research was done with pre and post test two group designs. Sample of 22 subjects were divided into low intensity aerobic dance group and moderate intensity aerobic dance group, each group consisting of 11 subjects. The percentage of subcutaneous fat was calculated by using formula of Jackson and Brozek. Data analysis using Independent T-Test the mean difference obtained in the low intensity aerobic dance on triceps, suprailliaca, and middle quadriceps region respectively 1,33±0,98, 1,76±1,41, 3,21±1,52. The mean difference obtained in the moderate intensity aerobic dance on triceps, suprailliaca, and middle quadriceps region respectively 1,08±1,04, 1,56±1,76, 1,65±1,52. The conclusion is low intensity aerobic dance group significantly decrease the percentage of subcutaneous fat 20,02% more than moderate intensity aerobic dance group 12,04% on middle quadriceps region.
