Abstract

Fishes are an open access resource so that monitoring of fishing in the sea is very difficult. It is feared will lead to overfishing which eventually led to a drastic reduction in fish stocks in nature. So that people will be faced with the problem of scarcity of fish resources. One of the fish landing sites in Bali is Pangkalan Pendaratan Ikan (PPI) Kedonganan located in Fishery Management Area of Republic Indonesia (WPP-RI) 713. Therefore, it is necessary to understanding the current status of fish resources is very important in order to be a strong foundation in the management fisheries in PPI Kedonganan. The study was conducted by assessing five indicators of fish resources (fish size, yuwana fish, species composition, range collapse, and ETP species) by establishing a set of criteria, scores and weights and analyzed by multi-criteria analysis (MCA) approach. There found 16 species of catch fish with Cob Fish as dominant catch fish (54%). The trend of changes in fish size has increased significantly by + 90.18% of the initial length (Indicator of fish size). An average of 99% of fish catched were the target fish (Indicator of species composition). An average of 28.33% of fish catches included yuwana fish (Indicator of yuwana fish proportion). The results of interviews, it was found that 73% of fishermen state that fishing areas increasingly difficult from year to year (Indicator ranges collapse). There were <20% of fish catches including protected species (Scomberomorus commerson and Sphyrna lewini). It is also supported based on fisherman interview data that there were still protected fish such as turtles, sharks and rays that are caught but in small quantities (Indicator of ETP fish species). The result of composite analysis showed that the status of fish resources in Kedonganan was still very good with composite value of 86.1.

Abstract

Phosphate is known to be one of many pollutants in the aquatic environment causing environmental degradation. This study aimed to know the absorption rate of phosphate by two most abundant water plant in Bali (Eichornia crassipes and Salvinia molesta). This study used three treatments: treatment A (using Eichornia crassipes), treatment B (using Salvinia molesta), and treatment C (combination of both plants). Each treatment was performed in triplicate. The phytoremediation process was carried out in 14 days, and the measurement of phosphate in the water was carried out in every 7 days (day 1, day 7, and day 14). The other parameters measured in this study were: temperature, pH and Total Dissolved Solid (TDS). The concentration of phosphate was measured using Hanna HI-713 KIT, while temperature, pH and TDS were measured using: thermometer, pH meter, and TDS meter, respectively. Result showed that the most efficient treatment to absorb the phosphate in the water was shown by treatment using Eichornia crassipes (up to 37.4%).

Abstract

Nusa Lembongan islands, Bali have a potential of coral reef diversity. Coral reefs have both ecological and high economic potential so that they are widely used. The economic benefits of coral reefs make these ecosystems very vulnerable to pressure from human activities. One of these human activities is the use of coral reefs in diving tourism activities. This research aimed to determine suitability and carrying capacity of coral reef ecosystem on Nusa Lembongan Island so that it can be recommended to manage coral reef ecosystem strategies to support the use of diving tourism. This study was conducted on six dive sites as observation points Observations on coral reef ecosystems were carried out using the intercept transect (LIT) method, and reef fish observation was carried out using the fish visual census method. Water quality sampling will be done in situ. Diving suitability was carried out by estimating the tourist suitability index (IKW) of six parameters, namely the brightness of the waters, coral community cover, coral life form, reef fish species, coral reef depth and current. The tourism suitability index value for the diving tourism category obtained was 74.07% (Jack Mangrove); 57.41% (Crystal Bay); and 61.11% (Manta Bay). The value for each observation point is included in the appropriate category of 50% -75%. It can be interpreted, that all observation points which are dive sites in Nusa Lembongan have supported diving tourism activities. Keywords: Tourism Suitability Index; Diving; Nusa lembongan.

Abstract

Abstract This study was aimed to investigate the phytoremediation capacity and mechanism of Pb by Kiapu plants (Pistia stratiotes) based on the mass balance analysis. This study used 2 treatments, Pb exposure at 10 and 20 ppm. The phytoremediation capacity of Kiapu plants was represented by the absorption/adsorption rate of Pb by the plants during 20 days of cultivation. The mechanism of Pb phytoremediation by Kiapu plants was estimated in mass balance analysis (the mass of Pb in leaves and roots). The value of Pb mass accumulation (in leaves and roots) was used as the basis of phytoremediation mechanism determination. The results showed that Kiapu plants could absorp/adsorp Pb from the water up to 0,71% in leaves and 0,79% in roots out of 50,5 mg in the 10 ppm treatment and that of 0,50% in leaves and 0,52% in roots out of 100,25 mg in the 20 ppm treatment. These result showed that the highest absorption/adsorption was in the root of the plants indicating a rhyzofiltration mechanism during the phytoremediation process. The water quality was not effected by phytoremediation using Kiapu plants. Keywords: Phytoremediation, capacity, mechanism, Kiapu (Pistia stratiotes), mass balance
