Abstract

Since 1977/1978 Industrial Research Institute Jakarta has become actively involved in the planning and operation of biogas plants, which recover meth~ne gas and enriched fertilizer from livestock manure (pig manure) and organic waste. In 1978/1979 there bas been built a biogas digester unit at Kapuk , west Jakarta. And methane gas production has been used for lighting and cooking.

Abstract

Citric acid is crystalline organic acid which is widely used in industries.The requirement of this acid tends to increase every year, following the industrial deve­lopment. Along with this line, it is there for necessary to look for cheap and readily available material to fulfill the demand Citric acid fermentation is an extremely complex process so in order to obtain higher concentration of citric acid, some main factors should be taken in concentration, for example, microorganism, medium composition, aeration, ratio volume to area surface and medium strirring. In addition, the problem of citric acid industry is the waste product. Because it can make pollution if it pilled up abudantly. Actually the organic solid waste can be used for compost as organic fertilizer, and an­ organic solid waste can be used for home decoration and so on.

Study and data compilation about industrial water desalination will be described in this paper. The experiments have been made on brakish waters, carried out by Industrial Research Institute in Jakarta. Prototype of electrodialysis appar atus has also been studied by Industrial Reserch Institute.

Abstract

Dextran is a polysaccharide synthesized by bacteria, including those belongingto the genera of Leuconostoc, Streptobacter. or related forms. Its principal utility now lies in its ability to serve as a blood plasma volume expander.Dextran's chemical and physical properties depend upon both the strain of micro­ organism employed, and the environmental conditions imposed upon the bacterium during growth or the reaction conditions imposed upon the bacterium during growth or the reaction conditions where an enzymatic method of dextran pro­duction is employed.Leuconostoc and Streptococcus species convert sucrose to dextran and fructose primarily. Acetobacter species convert dextrin to dextran, and its by product fructose thistransformation is mediated by an enzyme, dextran sucrase. Its· readily obtainedextracellularly from suitable strains of Leuconostoc mesenteroides propagatedunder appropriate conditions.
