Abstract

Background: Early posypartum haemorrhage (PPH) is a crucial problem in maternal and newborn care. The simulation-based learning has an important role to improve knowledge, practical skills, and attitude in realistic case-based scenarios. Purpose: This study aims to examine the effect on using simulated scenario in the simulation laboratory on nursing performance of early postpartum hemorrhage of nursing students. Methods: The quasi-experimental research, one group pretest-posttest design was used to study with the nursing students from the Faculty of Nursing, Naresuan University in Academic Year 2019 during the period of December 1, 2019 to January 31, 2020. The subjects of thirty nursing students were selected by purposive sampling. The instruments were the the ability in nursing of early postpartum hemorrhage through the questionnaires which consists of the performance test and satisfaction before and after the early PPH simulation program. The content of scenario consists of the definition, etiology, risk factors, signa and symptoms, treatment, holistic nursing care, and continuous care. The data were analysed as the descriptive: numbers, percentages, frequency, mean and standard deviation. The paired t-test was used to compare the outcome between pre-test and post-test. Results: The data were analysed by t-test. The results illustrated that the students who learned through simulated scenario on performance in nursing care of women with early postpartum hemorrhage had, after learning, higher performance in nursing care of women with early postpartum hemorrhage than that before learning at the .01 level of significance. The students were satisfied learning by using the simulation program in the high level (x̄ = 4.26, S.D. = 0.54). Conclusion: The simulation-based learning improves the core competencies and performances of nursing students for management women with early postpartum hemorrhage as knowledge, potential clinical care skills, and attitude. It will be useful to implement for nursing care women regarding early postpartum hemorrhage in the real situations.

Abstract

Obesity is an important global health issues in pregnancy that impact on pregnant women and newborn such as gestational diabetes mellitus, and cardiovascular diseases. The scoping review six stages is used to review an exercise during pregnancy, which is associated to potential maternal and newborn’s physical, psychological and social health aspects both short and long terms. The prescription of exercise during pregnancy for low risk pregnant women without any contraindications should take moderate level of exercise at least 3 times a week, at least 30 minutes or more of accumulated exercise a day, which include a 5-10 minutes warm up and cool down period, 20-30 minutes exercise from protocol: muscular workouts and/or cardiovascular training. Pregnant women should exercise as muscular workouts and cardiovascular training and unsafe activities should be avoided. Nurses’ role support pregnant women to enhance knowledge of exercise and increase exercise behaviour during pregnancy through nursing process at antenatal care clinic.

Abstract

The definitions and terminology related to malnutrition need to be clarified. The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (Academy) and the American Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (ASPEN) have classified clinical nutrition into malnutrition (undernutrition), sarcopenia, frailty, and overnutrition (overweight and obese). In addition, determining indicators for determining diagnoses related to malnutrition also needs to be clarified. Thus, this information can be used by nurses and other health workers to be able to provide appropriate planning and interventions for patients with malnutrition.

Abstract

Introduction: Thailand has not had a comprehensive effort to collaborate on a wellness tourism regional program for foreign travelers. The purpose of the study was exploring the key components necessary for a wellness tourism program in the lower northern region in Thailand. Methods: This is a qualitative, community-based, participatory action research guided by the empowerment theory. A descriptive qualitative approach to data collection and analysis was used to explore stakeholders’ perspectives on the development of a wellness tourism program. A total of 40 key stakeholders from nine provinces in the lower north region of Thailand participated in two phases of the study’s data collection. Individual and focus groups interviews were conducted and analyzed thematically. The purposive sample included semi-structured questionnaires among community leaders, village health volunteers, and workers from various occupations who lived in the communities. Results:  Four themes emerged from the qualitative interviews and focus groups: 1) honoring local wisdom as the heart of a regional wellness tourism program; 2)  the integration of historical traditions and regional lifestyles into a wellness tourism program; 3) the need for government supportive policies that help to fund community wellness initiatives to boost the local economy and tourism ;and 4) attention needed to improve the quality of life for the local communities while promoting wellness tourism in the region. Conclusion: This community-based participatory action research approach created a synergy among stakeholders from multiple provinces in the lower north region of Thailand.
