Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze the effectiveness of the hardening-temper process on the strength of M8 bolts. The research was carried out through a hardening process with heating temperatures of 900°C, 1000°C, 1100°C, using a holding time of 15 minutes then quenched in aquadest cooling medium, then continued with a tempering process at the same tempering temperature of 400°C followed by cooling at room temperature. The torsional strength of the M8 bolt was obtained through torsional testing using the SM 1 MK II Torque Testing Machine. The results showed that the torsional strength of treated M8 bolts was lower than without treatment. Efforts to increase the torsional strength of M8 bolts with the hardening – tempering method are not recommended, because M8 bolts are made of low carbon steel which has low hardenability, so that the increase in torsional strength of M8 bolts is not significant.

Abstract

Kinematics is the study of the relative motion of a component which includes the speed and acceleration of a machine without considering the causes of motion. The planting arm on the semi-mechanical rice seed planting tool works as a component of taking and planting rice into the soil. The planter arm is made using a four-bars linkage mechanism. The purpose of this research is to analyze the effect of kinematic parameters on the mechanism and to design the setting of planting depth by varying the length of the bars and calculating the speed and acceleration of the finger of the planter. The method used in this research is done analytically with GIM software application. The result of this research is the design of the dimensions of 4 bars linkage and the input value given to link 2 will affect the distance and depth of planting of rice using seed planting tool. Based on the dimensions and input values given, the planting depth is in the range of 83 mm so that it has met the required seedling planting criteria.

Abstract

This article is aimed to determine the accuracy bound for positioning the 5R planar parallel manipulator under the uncertainties in its dimensions and actuation. The accuracy bound is investigated numerically using the interval analysis and multi-dimensional bisection method (MDBM). These numerical methods can give multiple solutions within the workspace of the manipulator. Then, the exact solution is utilized for comparison with the numerical solutions. It is shown that the interval analysis via the interval Newton method gives the guaranteed bounds for positioning accuracy. Meanwhile, the MDBM and the exact solution coupling with the Monte Carlo simulation produce a scattered random value in a parallelogram shape inside the solution yielded by the interval Newton method. Overall, those three methods give nearly a good agreement in terms of that accuracy, but they are different at computation time.

Abstract

Heating, ventilation and air cooling (HVAC) systems are the largest users of electrical energy in the hospital. The results showed that hospitals represent about 60% of the total energy consumption in the utility building sector. In this paper, it is presented about energy efficiency and the potential for energy savings in HVAC systems in hospitals. Conditioning systems with Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) or Variable Refrigerant Volume (VRV) Technology allow for greater energy efficiency and cost savings compared to traditional HVAC systems.

Abstract

Today's agricultural development is inseparable from the development of agricultural tools and machinery technology. The application of this technology can be in the form of mechanization technology for rice cultivation using a rice transplanter. With the technology that helps them, it is hoped that agricultural productivity in Indonesia will increase from year to year and the farmers who are generally elderly can work more easily in managing their fields. The purpose of this study is to identify and determine the level of consumer needs related to rice transplanter, determine the technical characteristics of rice transplanter based on consumer preferences, and develop a House of Quality (HOQ) to determine the dominant design requirements and the priority technical characteristics of the equipment. Based on the House of Quality (HoQ) diagram, the best priority in improving the quality of products for making rice transplanter is an easy-to-use tool with a value of 138 with an average of 4.60. On the other hand, farmers also need a tool that can speed up rice planting on the condition that it is easy to use, because the suitability and convenience of rice farmers is a top priority. Furthermore, the design of the tool with a price that is not too expensive has a weight of 136 with an average of 4.53. This also shows that the price component is a priority for farmers to choose a rice transplanter.

Abstract

Natural fiber composite materials have been widely applied for various purposes, one of which is reducing noise. Many efforts have been tried to reduce noise by using sound absorbing materials such as glasswool, rockwool, and gypsum as sound absorbers, but because of the high price and bad impact on health, many studies have been conducted to find materials that are practical, cheap, and abundant availability in nature, one of which is natural fiber as an alternative to commercial sound absorbing materials. In this study, we want to know the effect of the composition of palm fronds with polyester resin can affect the sound absorption of a material and the effect of composition on sound absorption. The composition of palm frond fiber and polyester resin was varied 60%:40%, 65%:35%, 70%:30%, 75%:25%, 80%:20%, 85%:15%, 90%:10%, arranged randomly with a length of 5 mm. The specimen synthesis process starts with cutting the palm fronds, decomposing the palm frond fibers so that the fibers are separated from the flesh. Acoustic testing was conducted using a single microphone impedance tube. The test results showed that the largest absorption coefficient value is 0.984 at a frequency of 1500 Hz and is obtained in materials with a composition of 70%: 30%, and for the largest acoustic impendance value is 1.714 which is found at a frequency of 500 Hz and is obtained in the composition of 85%: 15%.

Abstract

This work aims to test and analyze the performance of the CNC Laser Engraver Machine on plywood media by using the grbl settings. The engraving process was conducted by using three filling methods in the grbl setting, i.e., reversed diagonal filling, horizontal filling and no filling. In the reversed diagonal filling method is tested a gears image input, in the horizontal filling method is tested a rumah gadang image input and in the no-filling method is tested a piston image input. The machine performance was assessed by comparing the CAD-based images input with the engraved images output that are carved on plywood media by a laser speed setting of 1000 mm/min, a laser power scale of 60% and a distance of laser from the media of 5 cm. From this assessment it can be concluded that the CNC Laser Engraver Machine is capable to create the shape and size of the images output that is the same as the shape and size of the images input. Here, the images size is obtained by a vernier caliper that has an accuracy of 0.05 mm.

Abstract

This research aims to investigate the ability of sound absorption coefficient and the acoustic impedance of Palm Frond Fiber Composites using the one-microphone impedance tube method. We used Palm Frond Fibers as a filler and pine resin as an alternative adhesive of composite with a volume fraction of 50%: 50%, 60%: 40%, 70%: 30%, 80%: 20%, and 90%: 10%. The sound absorption coefficient and acoustic impedance of composites were studied at 500, 1000 Hz, 1500 Hz, 2000 Hz, and 2500 Hz frequency. The results showed that the highest sound absorption coefficient was found in 1500 Hz frequency and using volume fraction 70%:10%. The highest acoustic impedance response was found in composite with a fiber composition of 90% and at the test frequency with a range of 500 Hz -1500 Hz. The composition of the adhesive and fiber greatly affects the impedance value because it was related to the formation of pores in the composite. Based on ISO standard 11654:1997, the value of the sound absorption of sound waves was 0.15, and Palm Frond Fiber had a value above, so it had the potential used as sound absorption material.
