Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine UNS foreign students adaptation strategies when overcoming cultural shock. The research method is qualitative with a descriptive approach, iIn determining the informant used purposive sampling technique. Sources of data used here are primary source and secondary source. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. Source triangulation and method triangulation were used to get a valid data. Data were analyzed using the intercultural adaptation theory by Yong Yun Kim, to look for adaptation strategies undertaken by foreign students in facing culture shock. The findings of the data show that foreign students experience the phenomenon of culture shock and go through several phases including planning, honeymoon, frustration, readjustment and resolution. Foreign students found several obstacles as their survival challenges including communication, type of food, religious life, use of language, stereotypes, customs, weather and climate, facilities and services, and education system. The conclusion of this research is there are five adaptation strategies undertaken by foreign students namely; personal communication, host social communication, ethnic social communication, environment and predisposition.

Abstract

This study tested the social capital consept of Robert D. Putnam encompassing the essential components such as a networking, the norm of reciprocity and trust in the coffee shop of economic actors. An important problem in this study is how the role of external actors as social capital in the running of the Yu Bunt Coffee Shop business is. This study is a qualitative study with a case study approach to the coffee shop business. The data in this study were obtained through the method of involved observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The results of the study show that the social capital of each individual involved forms a network that is able to produce reciprocal norms, and trust which also affects the sustainability of the Yu Bunt Coffee Shop business. Meanwhile, the role of external actors in the form of friendship greatly affects the level of income and business success of the Yu Bunt Coffee Shop. The contribution of this study is social capital related to the role of external actors is an important aspect that must be maintained for the survival and success of small businesses such as coffee shops in this case study. This is important because there is a reciprocal principle that operates intersubjectively in the social capital network that is formed.

Abstract

Divorce research in Rembang Regency, Central Java aims to explore the study of bickering factors that can be a way of ending a marital relationship. The method used is a combination of quantitative and qualitative. Quantitative data obtained through surveys with purposive sampling techniques. Researchers selected 30 divorced people as respondents. Qualitative data was obtained through in-depth interviews with 10 potential participants. Qualitative data is analyzed using Spradley's domain model, which provides an overview of and thoroughly of the research object. The data obtained through surveys and interviews is subsequently converted into a script in order to obtain an overview of the objects studied.  The study concluded that the factors that cause quarrels in the family are (1) the inability to support the family; (2) infidelity; (3) Domestic Violence; (4) misunderstanding; and (5) mismatch with a partner due to matchmaking practice.

Abstract

Research on Rinding Gumbeng art in Duren Hamlet, Beji aims to explore how the existence of Rinding Gumbeng Art in the current Globalization Era. The method used is qualitative research. Qualitative data obtained through field observations with purposive sampling technique. Qualitative data were obtained through in-depth interviews with 10 prospective participants. Qualitative data were analyzed using Spradley's domain model, which gives a general and comprehensive picture of the research object. The data obtained through surveys and interviews were then converted into a script in order to obtain an overview of the object under study. The research concludes that the existence of Rinding Gumbeng art in Dusun Duren is still growing and surviving well by undergoing changes to follow the conditions in the current era of globalization. Rinding Gumbeng art is still being preserved to this day and has even begun to be known outside the region.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui 1) Perilaku berpacaran mahasiswa kos dalam perspektif teori kontrol sosial Travis Hirschi di Jebres, Surakarta dan 2) Respon masyarakat terhadap perilaku berpacaran mahasiswa kos di Jebres Surakarta. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif dengan menggunakan pendekatan studi kasus. Jumlah informan pada penelitian ini sebanyak 8 orang yang ditentukan melalui teknik purposive sampling. Sumber data yang digunakan yaitu sumber data primer dan sekunder. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui observasi, wawancara dan dokumentasi. Teknik analisis data menggunakan triangulasi data yaitu dengan mereduksi data, penyajian data dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian bahwa perilaku berpacaran mahasiswa kos sudah semakin meresahkan dianalisis menggunakan teori kontrol sosial internal Travis Hirschi dengan 4 (empat) unsur utama yaitu attachment, commitment, involvement dan believe. Respon dari ketua RT setempat dengan mengadakan ronda malam rutin dan memberikan himbauan kepada para pemilik maupun penjaga kos untuk senantiasa menjaga ketertiban dan keamanan kos-kosan.

Abstract

AbstrakSetiap individu memiliki potensi diri. Termasuk mantan Wanita Tuna Susila (WTS) yang menjadi Penerima Manfaat (PM) di PPSW Wanodyatama. Pengembangan diri penting bagi mereka agar mandiri setelah dari panti. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Teknik pengambilan sampel purposive sampling dan teknik pengumpulan data dengan observasi, dokumentasi, dan wawancara mendalam. Panti mendorong PM mengembangkan dirinya dengan dasar pemenuhan kebutuhan yakni kebutuhan pokok, kesehatan, sosial, dan cinta. Panti membantu pengembangan diri PM melalui pelatihan tata kecantikan yang digunakan untuk mengembangkan talenta, menciptakan kesempatan, meningkatkan kepercayaan diri, serta memotivasi PM berwirausaha setelah dari panti. Kendala yang dialami PM dalam pengembangan dirinya yaitu rasa minder, bosan, kurang puas terhadap fasilitas pelatihan kecantikan, dan tidak ada sertifikat serta modal materil dari panti untuk PM mendirikan usaha setelah keluar. Sehingga solusi atas kendala tersebut yaitu melatih PM untuk percaya diri, sesekali membebaskan kegiatan kecantikan, memperbaiki fasilitas, dan mengadakan bimbingan lanjut untuk PM yang ingin berwirausaha.Kata Kunci: Hierarki Kebutuhan, Pelatihan Tata Kecantikan, Upaya Pengembangan Diri, Wirausaha AbstractEvery individual has self-potential. Including ex-Prostitutes who became Beneficiaries (PM) at PPSW Wanodyatama. Self-development is important for them to be independent after leaving PPSW. This research is a qualitative descriptive study. The sampling technique is purposive sampling and the data collection techniques are observation, documentation, and in-depth interviews. PPSW encourages PM to develop themselves on the basis of fulfilling their basic needs, health, social, and love. PPSW helps PM self-development through beauty training which is used to develop talents, create opportunities, increase self-confidence, and motivate PM to become entrepreneurs after leaving PPSW. The obstacles experienced by PM in self-development are feeling inferior,bored,dissatisfaction with beauty training facilities,and there is no certificate and material capital for PM to build a business. So, the solution to these problems is train PM to be confident, once free up beauty activities, improve facilities, and provide further guidance for PM who whant to be entrepreneurs.Keywords: Beauty Training; Bussinessman, Hierarchy of Needs, Self-Development Efforts

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis korelasi antara pendidikan, keluarga dan pengeluaran rumah tangga dengan motivasi perempuan bekerja sebagai pengukir di desa Petekeyan Kecamatan Tahunan Kabupaten Jepara. Metode penelitian ini adalah kuantitatif dengan menggunakan teknik deskriptif melalui survey yang diambil dari sample para pengrajin ukir perempuan Desa Petekeyan dengan tujuan untuk memberikan gambaran terhadap obyek yang diteliti dari kriteria yang telah ditentukan sebelumnya. Penelitian ini memperoleh kesimpulan bahwa dari hasil perhitungan data diperileh korelasi tingkat pendidikan dengan motivasi perempuan bekerja memiliki nilai Sign untuk pengaruh X1 terhadap Y adalah sebesar 0,039 0,05 atau tidak terdapat korelasi antara tingkat pendidikan terhadap motivasi perempuan bekerja.. Korelasi keluarga dengan motivasi perempuan bekerja memiliki nilai Sign untuk pengaruh X2 terhadap Y adalah sebesar 0,03 0,05 sehingga terdapat korelasi antara keluarga terhadap motivasi perempuan bekerja. Korelasi pengeluaran rumah tangga dengan motivasi perempuan bekerja memiliki nilai Sign X3 terhadap Y sebesar 0,00 0,05 atau terdapat korelasi antara pengeluaran rumah tangga terhadap motivasi perempuan bekerja. Hasil uji F memiliki nilai signifikansi pengaruh X1, X2 dan X3 secara simultan tehadap Y adalah 0,000 tingkat pendidikan, keluarga dan pengeluaran rumah tangga berkorelasi secara simultan terhadap motivasi perempuan bekerja.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memahami dan menjelaskan strategi yang dijalankan oleh pedagang burjo di seputar kampus Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta dalam memperoleh, mempertahankan, dan mengakumulasi modal sosial yang menunjang berputarnya roda usaha mereka. Metode kualitatif digunakan untuk mengumpulkan dan menganalisis data. Data primer diperoleh melalui wawancara mendalam dengan 30 orang partisipan yang terdiri dari pedagang (20 orang), pemasok bahan baku (5 orang), dan pemilik modal (5 orang). Ketiga pihak dipilih sebagai partisipan penelitian karena keterlibatannya secara langsung di dalam bisnis ini dan karena kaitan yang terjalin di antara mereka. Kesimpulan yang diperoleh dari penelitian ini adalah pedagang burjo menjalankan dua jenis strategi dalam kaitan dengan modal sosial.  (1) Strategi internal yang dijalankan adalah membangun hubungan yang menyerupai keluarga, membangun ikatan kepercayaan dengan semua karyawan, saling memberikan bantuan berupa meminjamkan tenaga karyawan, memberikan bahan baku makanan, bertukar menukar informasi seputar perdagangan, berbagi resep menu makanan dan berbagi antar karyawan. (2) Strategi eksternal yang ditempuh adalah memilih agen untuk dijadikan langganan, mengalah terhadap masyarakat setempat, membersihkan lingkungan usaha, menjaga kualitas masakan, harga murah,  pelayanan yang cepat dan ramah,  membayar uang parkir keamanan, memberikan bantuan terhadap masyarakat sekitar, melayat, menjaga nilai kejujuran, keramahan, keakraban dengan pelanggan, memberi hutang pada pembeli, menaruh kepercayaan terhadap pembeli dan ikut memberikan sumbangan terhadap pegawai burjo lain ketika ada yang meninggal.This research aims at understanding and explaining strategies that green bean porridge (burjo) vendors around the area of Universitas Sebelas Maret campus develop in gathering, maintaining, and accumulating social capitals for the improvement of their businesses’ performance. Qualitative method was used for the data collection and analysis. Primary data was collected through in-depth intervews with 30 research participants, consisting of 20 vendors, 5 suppliers, and 5 investors. These participants were selected due their direct involvement in this business and their close interrelation. This research results in two main conclusions concerning the way burjo vendors manage the social capital. (1) Internally, they build family-like relation, develop trust among employee, and practice mutual help, e.g. lending food materials, sharing business-reated informations as well as recipes. (2) Externally, they develop trust with preferred suppliers, be kind always available for helping the local inhabitants, manage a clean business location, keep the food quality,  give better price, provide a quick and friendly service, regularly pay the parking tribute, go to funeral, allow costumers to pay later, and donate certain amount of cash for bereavement.

Abstract

This study aims to determine whether the construction of beauty formed according to female students of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education at Sebelas Maret University who use skincare is still the same as the general beauty myth. The research method used is qualitative research with a phenomenological approach. Data were obtained through structured interviews and field observations. Social construction regarding beauty cannot be separated from the stages that follow. These stages are the initial or first receipt of information about beauty in the family sphere (externalization), the process of receiving and comparing various information related to beauty from various environments (objectivation), such as the environment of peers, college friends, and social media, and the internalization stage, when female students are able to formulate the meaning of beauty according to their own version of various environmental influences. The results showed that beauty consists of outer and inner beauty. External beauty, such as a clean face without acne and an appearance that is able to adjust the situation, While inner beauty is manifested by friendly behavior, treating others well, and good communication skills with broad insight, The meaning of beauty is influenced by internal and external factors.
