Abstract

ABSTRACTThe Study was conducted in July 2012 by taking seawater and sediment samples from Telaga Tujuh Karimun Regency of Riau Islands Province . The purpose of this study was to find out the concentration of heavy metals Pb , Cu and Zn in sediment and seawater in the Telaga Tujuh waters and also to see the relationships between heavy metals Pb , Cu and Zn in sea water with Pb , Cu and Zn in the sediment. Sampling locations were determined by purposive sampling method , where 6 station were choose with three replicates. Based on the results it was suggested that Telaga Tujuh waters are still suitable for aquatic organisms living waters . Higher concentrations of Zn on were found when compared to Pb and Cu bouth in seawater or in sediment . Standard Quality Guideline values for metal concentrations in sediment showed that Pb , Cu and Zn in the sediment were very close to the ERL but still well below the ERM values. The concentration of heavy metals Pb , Cu and Zn in sea water were negative by correlated with concentration of heavy metals in the sediments. Keywords : Telaga Tujuh, Heavy Metals, Sediment, Seawater

Abstract

This study was conducted in February 2016 in the strait between Belakang Padang Island and Sambu Island of Batam City in Riau Island Archipelago Province. The aim of the student has to understand the environmental deposition of Pulau Belakang Padang waters based on the analysis of surface sediments distribution. Surface sediment samples were taken using Eckman grab from 20 sampling points, to analyze the grain size and sediment composition. In general, the sediment characteristics of the study area is dominated by the fraction from fine to very fine sand. Environmenal deposition can be devided 4 groups. The first group has a weak current and very unstable oceanographic condition, the second group has a mean size that is more rugged and has lower percentage of clay fraction, third group was characterized by stronger current and slightly more stable oceanographic condition and fourth group has oceanographic conditions with the most strong and more stable current system.Keyword: Sediment, Distribution, Belakang Padang, Sambu, Batam

Abstract

ABSTRAKThe research was conducted in May 2014, in the western part of the Rupat Strait. The aim of study was to determine the sediment material horizontally. This samples were taken using Eckman Grab from 9 sampling points. The analysis of the organic content in the sediment was also done. The results showed that the composition of the sediment in the western part of the Strait Rupat composed of lithogenous (rocks, mica, quartz ) and biogenous ( litter and Foraminifera). Lithogenous composition of rocks dominate waters and existede evenly at each sampling point. The highest percentage found in a location close to the mainland, this was suggested that the materials carried by the tide of Malacca and ebb currents of the Sungai Masjid River piled around this sampling point. In addition, the type of rock could have also come from erosion and anthropogenic activities in water around the edge. The organic matter content of sediment was highest at the sampling point close to the mangrove area. This was due to getting the supplay of organic material from the mangrove areas. Keywords: Composition, Tidal Currents, Sediment, Rupat Strait, Mangrove

Abstract

The study aims to describe Lithostratigraphy based on verticaldistribution of sediment fractions in western part of Rupat Strait. The sedimentsamples were taken in May 2014 from 9 sampling points and 3 stations by usinggravity cores. The position of the sampling point was determined by usingpurposive sampling method. Each sample obtained from core samples wasdivided into 3. All the sediment samples were analyzed by using mechanicalanalysis. The analysis showed that the sediment in the area was dominated by thesand fraction with percentages ranging from 58.59 to 98.31 % with the highestpercentage was located at the sampling point 2 middle layer and the lowest at 5sampling points lower layers. Sediment grain size did not undergo significantdifference vertically. At station 1 the changes in sediment grain size was onlyfound at the sampling point 3 middle layer. Sediment grain size at station 2changed at the sampling point 4 middle layer and the top layer 6 sampling pointswhile the grain size of the sediment contained in station 3 occurs at the samplingpoint 7 layers above and below the layer 9 sampling points. Based on clusteranalysis the sediment layer of western part of Rupat strait IV can be divided intogroups based on five characteristics of sediments and in each group showed thatthe difference was not significant. Keywords : Stratigraphy, Sedimentary, Rupat Strait
