Abstract

The aim of this research was to investigate the influence of the learning model of Experiential Learning with case study of students' critical thinking skills in the human reproductive system material.Research is Quasi Experiment (quasi-experimental) with research design Posttest Only with Non-equivalent Control Group Design. The research population was all students of eleventh (XI) grade IPA SMA Negeri 6 Surakarta academic year 2012/2013. Sampling technique in the study is cluster sampling, with samples of the two classes, there are eleventh grade (XI) IPA 1 with 26 students as the number of experimental class and eleventh (XI) IPA 3 with 28 students a class control. Treatment in the experimental class is the application of the learning model of Experiential Learning with case study and in control class applied conventional learning model with varied lectures. The technique of collection data was using test method (essay) and non-test (documentation and observation). Hypothesis testing is done by using a t-test. The results showed that the average value of the critical thinking skills of students in the experimental class was higher than the control class, which is 64.42 in experimental class and 51 in the control class. The results show the significant value of t test is 0.000 (sig. <0.05), so it can be said that there are significant differences in thecritical thinking skills betweenexperimental class with control class. The research has conclusion that the model of experiential learning with case studygives significant effect on students' critical thinking skills for eleventh(XI) grade IPA SMA Negeri 6 Surakarta in academic year 2012/2013 on the matter of human reproductive system. Key Words: experiential learning, learning method in case study, critical thinking skills

Abstract

This research aimed to find out whether or not there is an effect of Predict Observe Explain Write on the critical thinking ability of the X graders of SMA Negeri 2 Sukoharjo in academic year on 2012/2013. This study was a quasi experiment research. Posstet only nonequivalent control group design is used in this research. The population of research was all X grades of SMA Negeri 2 Sukoharjo in academic year 2012/2013 consisiting 285 students. Cluster sampling.is used to this research. The result of cluster sampling is choosen for X6 as experimental gruop and X7 as control group. Predict observe explain write model is applied in experimental group and conventional model is applied in control group.  The data was collected by using critical thinking test, observastion sheet, and school documents. The data were analyzed by t-test. The results of this research shows that the mean of student’s capability of critical thinking in experiment class higher than control class, it was 70,41 for experiment class and 61,98 for control class.  The result of hypothesis is analyzed by t-test and it gets significant value 0,000 (sig.<0,05), so the Predict Observe Explain Write model has effect toward student’s capability of critical thinking. This conclution is the application of Predict Observe Explain Write models has real effect toward critical thinking ability of X grade students at SMA Negeri 2 Sukoharjo in academic year on 2012/2013. Key Words: Predict Observe Explain model, Think Talk Write strategy, Critical Thinking Ability

Abstract

The research aimed to improve students’ KPS through BIL model in biological learning process on 1st  grade of science 2 at SMA Negeri 1 Surakarta in Academic Year of 2014/ 2015. The research belongs to classroom action research consist of two cycle and each have four phases, namely: planning, actuating, observing, and reflecting.  Research was carried out on four aspects of the students’ KPS that includes aspects of measuring, formulating the problem, formulating hypotheses and experimental plan to achieve an increase of 20%. The Subject of this research is 1st  grade 31 students of science 2 at SMA N 1 Surakarta. Sources of data obtained from the teacher and students. Test and non test technics were used to collect the data. It was carried out by using KPS question test, observation, and interview. The obtained data were analyzed using descriptive qualitative method consist of three components , namely: data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion or verification. Validated through using triangulation method. The method of research was spiral method. The result showed that BIL able to improve four aspects of student’s KPS from Pre-Cycle, 1st Cycle and 2nd Cycle, such as: 1) in aspect measuring (24,74%, 82,28%, 86,57%) achieve an increase of 61,83%; 2) formulating the problem (22,80%, 88,71%, 91,58%) achieve an increase of 68,78%; 3) formulating hypotheses (24,60%, 86,78%, 94,31%) achieve an increase of 69,71%; 4) experimental plan (17,40%, 76,90%, 85,31%) achieve an increase of 67,91%. Therefore, it can be concluded that BIL in biological learning process could improved students’ KPS more than 20% on 1st  grade students of science 2 at SMA N 1 Surakarta in Academic Year of 2014/2015. Keywords: BIL model, KPS

Abstract

This research aimed to improve the scientific process skills and reduce misconception through the application of E-Module based on Problem-Based Learning in the X MIA 2 graders of SMA Batik 1 Surakarta. This research was a Classroom Action Research consisting of 2 cycles. Each cycle consisted of four stages: planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The subject of research was the X MIA 2 graders of SMA Batik 1 Surakarta consisting of 42 students. Techniques of collecting data used were multiple choice test and observation to measured scientific process skills, open-ended reasoning of Two-Tier Diagnostic Test to measure misconseption, and interveiw as the proponent data related learning process. The data were analyzed using descriptive qualitative technique consist of three component: data reduction, data presentation, and taking the conclusion. Data validation was carried out using triangulation method. Target of research was 20% to increased scientific process skills and 20%  to reduced misconseption at the end of the cycle. The result of research showed that the scientific process skills to able increased through the application of E-Module based on Problem-Based Learning in all aspects: observing of 29.83%, categorizing of 11.73%, predicting of 37.33%, interpreting of 30.71%, measuring of 35.66%, communicating of 32.39%, designing experiment of 30.04%, experimenting of 21.82%, asking question of 23.42%, hypothesizing of 36.73%, and applying concept of 42.58%. On the other side, the  result of research also showed that there was a decreased misconception in ecological concept: population of 51.31%, community of 43.73%, ecosystem of 39.36%, and science, environment, technology and community (salingtemas) ecology of 54.33%. The conclusion of this research described that there was an increasing scientific process skills of 28.96% and reducing misconception of 47.18% by used the application of E-Module based on Problem-Based Learning. Keywords  : Scientific Process Skills, Misconception, E-Module based on Problem Based Learning.

Abstract

In Indonesia, increased critical land reached 24 million hectares, showed that the rate of damage landresources is worried due to the less- controlled management. Thus, the widespread critical land need to beidentified to set the factors causes.Various type of land used as an indicator of damaged, so it takes effort torestore critical land into potential land. One of solution is harnessing the earthworm interaction pattern withenvironment. Earthworms as a decomposers of ground plant litter and soil organic matter, then digested andexcreted in the form of casting. The ability of these animals in consuming ground plant litter as a food wasdepend on the availability preferred of the litter,ultimately depend on carbon and nitrogent suply. Earthwormfeces is called casting, allegedly contains nutrients levels of N, P, and K. Understood that earthworms arepotentially to expounds of organic matter into small particle. The observation showed that soil had earthwormwith large quantities supposed the soil fertility caused create aeration and prevented on soil compaction.Earthworms in turn stimulate soil nutrient mineralization and s oil organic material saving. Organicmaterials improving the physical soil, biological soil and increase the nutrient suply for plants. In the cycle oforganic materials, earthworm as a fragmentator, as an fragmentation of the decomposition process of plantlitter in the soil surface. The ground plant litter in the moist soil undergoes fragmentation much faster thandry soil. The earthworms also as stimulator humification, the process of destruction and mixing of chemicallyagainst particles of organic into humus. Generally, the diversity of earthworms sustainability of ecosystemexposure to elevated carbon and mediated nitrogen cycling, as well as modify the structure of the soil andmoisture. In ecosystem, the interactions between component has mutual effect and dynamic relation. Thismeans that the relationship between components isn’t simple and static, but extremely variable and changed.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to know the effect of brainstorming actvity in Learning Cycle 5E learning model towards sciencetific literacy ability aspect of scientific nomenclature, rules of scientific evidence, postulate of science, scientific disposition, major misconception about science and, intellectual process skills. The research method is experimental research with Randomized Posttest-Only Control Group Design. The research population is all students of class XI IPA SMA Negeri 2 Karanganyar. The sample of research choosed with simple ramdom sampling technique and obtained two classes namely class XI IPA 4 as experiment class and XI IPA 1 as control class. Data collection techniques use tests and observations. Normality and homogeneity test are performed as a requirement of hypothesis test. The data analysis technique used Manova test and advanced testing using Tukey test.The research procedure includes planning, implementation and data analysis.Based on the result of the research, it can be concluded thatthere is effect of brainstorming actvity in Learning Cycle 5E learning model towards sciencetific literacy ability on aspect of scientific nomenclature, rules of scientific evidence, postulate of science, scientific disposition, major misconception about science and, intellectual process skills. The effect of brainstorming actvity in Learning Cycle 5E learning model on aspects of sciencetific literacy ability from highest to lowest is scientific disposition more than postulate of science, scientific nomenclatur equal to postulate of science, then major misconception about science and intellectual process skills.

The purpose of this research is to improve students internalization character through the implementation of learning model SETS (Science Environment Technology and Society) in class XI IPA 2 SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Karanganyar academic year 2016/2017. This research is an action research (Classroom Action Research), was held two cycles. Each cycle consists of three stages: planning, execution and observation, and reflection. The subjects were students of class XI IPA 2 SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Karanganyar academic year 2016/2017. The data research obtained through observation, tests, self-assessment questionnaires and friends, and interviews. The validity of the data using triangulation techniques. Analysis of data using qualitative descriptive analysis techniques. The research procedures using spiral model Kemmis and Mc Taggart. Aspects of the character values of students researched were honest, disciplined, hard working, creative, independent, curious, caring environment, and responsibility. The results of attitude observation 76.9%, student self-assessment 80.8%, and friend assessment 76.5%. Student achievement scores on internalizing character prasiklus 41,3%, 60,8% the first cycle and the second cycle 78.1%. Based on these research it can be concluded that the implementation of learning models SETS (Science Environment Technology and Society) can improve the character internalization towards the eleventh grade students of science 2 program (XI IPA 2) at SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Karanganyar.

Abstract

STEM (Science, Technology, Education, and Mathematics) adalah salah satu pendekatan pembelajaran sains terintegrasi yang bermanfaat untuk melatihkan problem solving skills dan keterampilan abad 21, serta menjadi salah satu model pembelajaran inovatif yang disarankan untuk diterapkan di kelas sains. Permasalahannya adalah kurangnya pengetahuan dan keterampilan guru tentang STEM, sehingga hampir tidak ada yang menerapkannya. Oleh karena itu tujuan dari kegiatan pengabdian ini adalah memberikan wawasan pengetahuan dan keterampilan kepada guru bagaimana mendesain dan menerapkan STEM, terutama pada masa pandemi. Mitra pada kegiatan pengabdian ini adalah guru-guru Biologi yang tergabung dalam Musyawarah Guru Mata Pelajaran Biologi Karanganyar, Jawa Tengah dan guru-guru Biologi anggota Persatuan Pendidik Biologi Indonesia Folia (PPBIF) cabang Jawa Tengah (N=53). Kegiatan ini berupa workshop yang dilaksanakan sebanyak 5 pertemuan secara online dengan tema: Pengantar STEM, Problem-based Learning dan Project-based Learning, STEM@Home, Desain STEM, dan Evaluasi STEM. Hasil pendampingan menunjukkan adanya peningkatan pengetahuan dan keterampilan guru dalam menyusun Desain STEM dan rencana pembelajarannya. Persepsi guru tentang STEM juga meningkat terkait dengan aspek-aspek yang perlu diperhatikan dalam penerapan STEM@Home pada masa pandemi. Diperlukan implementasi STEM lebih lanjut di kelas pembelajaran jarak jauh untuk melihat keefektifan pendampingan
