Abstract

Technology and smart devices have become ubiquitous staples in every aspect of human life. Given the rise of computation in everyday life, introducing technology to early childhood students requires exposure to logical thinking and problem-solving skills through programming approaches or computational thinking. This research addresses an inquiry into a comprehensive elaboration of the development of early childhood computational thinking. A novel programming toy was introduced as an educational tool based on designated themes in accordance with early childhood education curricula. Five stages were conducted to reveal parental and child engagement in robotics activities and later, interviews were conducted on children’s cognitive development from the parent's perspective. Children were observed exploring in various ways by concentrating and paying attention, doing the given activities and expressing their excitement and happiness. The notion that children learn from their social network environment was highlighted by the way in which the children involved in the KARIN programming toy’s hands-on activities were driven to be more actively engaged in the exercise. In addition to parent-student engagement, the use of the KARIN programming toy helps to shed light on how students in early childhood learn while away from their social relations during a pandemic.

Abstract

AbstractCoffee has been cultivated as the secondary produce for decades in Girimarto, Wonogiri, however, the selective picking practice remain alient for local farmers. Selective picking is considered impractical due to time consumption and laborous work that farmers should carry out. The community service project designs and implements image recognition technology to help acquire           coffee-cheery ripeness condition. Adopting a geolocation, the appropriate routing strategies, would enable farmers to selectively pick the red cherries in a systematic sequence. The image processing technology was applied by adopting Raspberry Pi microcomputer, Raspberry Pi Camera Board, version 2, and OpenCV programming language. The transition to selective picking and the subsequent post-harvest technology would likely produce high-quality green bean coffee. It is expected that the income of smallholder coffee farmers will gradually be increasing.ABSTRAKPraktek petik buah merah dalam budidaya kopi belum menjadi prosedur baku pada perkebunan kopi rakyat di wilayah Girimarto, Wonogiri.

Abstract

The high unemployment rate in Indonesia was dominated by vocational high school graduates approximately 8.63% of the 6.82 million. Therefore, to counter the circumstance, more entrepreneurs are required to explore job creation opportunities. This research was aimed at identifying the effects of entrepreneurial activity, gender, parents, self-confidence, and motivation on the entrepreneurial intent of vocational high school students. This study uses a descriptive method with a quantitative approach. The sample in this study was 85 final-year students of a high school in Central Java. A set of questionnaires was administered to explore the relationship between entrepreneurial intent and other contextual factors. The data derived from the survey were analyzed by correlation analysis and multiple regression. The results showed a positive and significant effect on entrepreneurial activity, self-confidence, and motivation, with regression coefficients of 0.056, 0.098, and 0.083, respectively. These three variables separately exhibited zero significance. Meanwhile, gender indicated a negative and major influence, with a regression coefficient of -0.171 and a significance level of 0.006. However, parents were not able to demonstrate any effect but recorded a regression coefficient of 0.176. Thus, entrepreneurial activity, self-confidence and student motivation may affect the intention to be an entrepreneur. It is expected that this study could be a reference in developing students' entrepreneurship intent.

Abstract

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) for teachers includes self-development activities, scientific publications, and innovative works. Scientific publications are often an obstacle to a teacher's career. Therefore, the skill of writing a scientific paper is a competency that must be possessed by teachers. This community service aims to provide assistance and improve scientific writing skills for Vocational High School (SMK) teachers. The method used consists of a classical approach of holding workshops and individual post-workshop assistance until submitting participant articles to scientific journals. Based on the results of the program, it was found that: (1) the teachers showed high enthusiasm in participating in the program; (2) there is one participant who successfully published his article in the Indonesian Sinta indexed journals; (3) participants who are still in the process and who have already had draft articles still need individual assistance until they can publish into scientific journals. The mentoring program is still needed on an ongoing basis so that writing culture is formed as a part of the CPD program.

Abstract

In this article, a kind of green composite was prepared from recycled polypropylene (r-PP) which was further reinforced with various loadings of chemically modified bamboo fibres. Effects of bamboo fibre loading on the mechanical and thermal properties of r-PP/bamboo composites were studied. Those properties were characterized by tensile testing, impact testing, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and differential scanning calorimeter (DSC). Standardized test specimens with 0%, 10%, 20%, and 30% mass fractions of bamboo fibre were obtained by an extrusion process which was then finalized on injection molding. The experiment revealed the tensile strength and strain of the composite become greater with the increase of bamboo fraction in the ultimate value of 20% mass fraction. The composite with 10% bamboo fibre loading recorded the highest value of impact strength. Meanwhile, it was evident that the presence of bamboo fibre decreased the thermal stability of recycled polypropylene materials. Therefore, this composite material may find good potential for semi-structural loading applications in relatively low-exposure working.
