Abstract

Along with the emergence of batik in various places with their respective regional identities, batik also emerged in Jepara with its characteristic motifs. This article aims to determine the development of Jepara batik motifs in 2008-2019 as Jepara's new identity based on local wisdom. The emergence of Batik Jepara has begun in 2008 that became the new identity of Jepara. This identity is further strengthened through the inauguration of batik as a world heritage object by UNESCO in 2009. This study uses literature, observation, and in-depth interview with batik entrepreneurs in Jepara to find out superior motifs and philosophies of each batik motif originating from the local wisdom of the people of Jepara. This identity is what makes Jepara batik motifs different from batik motifs in other places. The results show that the Jepara batik motif was influenced by the local culture of the Jepara community, that is not separated from the Jepara carving motif, Kartini batik motif, Jepara community legend, Jepara typical building icons, marine flora-fauna motifs that gave Jepara identity as a coastal area, and the existence of development motifs that remain based on the characteristics of Jepara.

Abstract

This article is one of wide studies that analyze culinary food served in cultural activities at Jepara. Those cultural activities become tourist attractions. This study uses qualitative method includes collection of primary and secondary sources such as literature study, observation, structured and in-depth interviews, and Focus Group Discussion (FGD). Historically, cultural activities have been existed during the ancestor period, it is always accompanied by the presence of culinary that has philosophical and historical significance among them. The purpose of this study is to develop culinary culture into business units for the community by combining cultural and tourism market values that have been existed previously. The culinary varieties are expected to be able to contribute in tourism development through the establishment of new business units.

Abstract

Kudus is an area rich in historical and cultural sites related to the spread of Islam. In several tombs of religious leaders in Kudus, there are still traditional ceremonies which are always complemented by various culinary traditions. What are the symbolic and philosophical meanings of each of the traditional culinary traditions in some ways related to the five prominent figures of Islam in Kudus? In writing this article the research begins with collecting data which includes the collection of primary and secondary sources such as literature, observation, participatory, in-depth interviews, and Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with informants from various elements. All data that has been collected through the various approaches above will then be classified, connected or accumulated between data from one another, linked between primary sources and library sources or secondary sources, as a form of interpretation and synthesized in order to obtain research results . The results of the study show that the symbolic and philosophical meanings of each culinary tradition in some traditional ceremonies relating to the characterization of Islamization in Kudus are closely related to the greatness of the figure itself. Based on the culinary tradition, it can be seen that the beliefs of the Kudus community still have a relationship with previous beliefs (pre-Islam).

Abstract

Penulisan artikel ini bertujuan untuk menggali faktor apakah yang  dapat menumbuhkan etos kerja pada dua daerah penelitian ini, di Desa Mantingan Jepara dan di Desa Trusmi Cirebon, sehingga dua daerah penelitian ini memiliki industri kreatif yang khas dalam waktu yang cukup lama. Desa Mantingan Jepara dikenal dengan industri ukirnya dan Desa Trusmi Cirebon dikenal dengan industri batiknya. Penulisan artikel ini dimulai dengan melakukan pengumpulan data yang meliputi pengumpulan sumber primer dan  sekunder seperti kajian pustaka, observasi, partisipatoris, dan dept interview dengan informan dari berbagai elemen. Semua data yang telah dikumpulkan melalui berbagai pendekatan di atas selanjutnya akan diklasifikasikan, dihubung-hubungkan atau diakumulasikan antara data satu dengan yang lainnya, dikaitkan antara sumber primer dengan sumber-sumber pustaka atau sumber sekunder, sebagai suatu bentuk interpretasi dan disintesakan dalam rangka mendapatkan hasil penelitian. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat faktor yang menyebabkan kuatnya etos kerja pada dua daerah penelitian tersebut, yaitu adanya peran tokoh lokal yang dikeramatkan serta menumbuhkan tradisi yang dapat meningkatkan etos kerja sehingga ciri khas industri kreatif desa masih lestari hingga sekarang. Tradisi yang dimaksud adalah ganti luwur makam Ratu Kalinyamat dan Sultan Hadirin, upacara memayu di Trusmi, serta ziarah, tahlilan, dan manaqiban.
