Abstract

X-rays radiation is an electromagnetic wave that can pass through space and disperse the energy. One of utilization of X-rays radiation in dentistry is diagnostic procedures. In addition, X-rays radiation can also cause some risks, such as cell, tissue, and organ damage. These risks can damage to operators and patients, including pregnant woman who are having treatment using X-rays radiation. The risks of X-rays radiation to pregnant woman can be caused by the lack of knowledge about radiation risk. This research aims to observe the knowledge level of pregnant woman about X-rays radiation effects in dentistry during pregnancy in private midwifery practice Desa Suka Damai Kecamatan Lueng Bata Banda Aceh. The type of this study was descriptive. The subjects were chosen with purposive sampling method obtained to match the inclusion on criteria. Collecting data was done by using questionnaire and distributed to subject who have given the informed concent. The result of this research showed that knowledge level of 30 subjects pregnant woman about X-rays radiation effects in dentistry during pregnancy in private midwifery practice Desa Suka Damai Kecamatan Lueng Bata Banda Aceh which has good category was 20%, fair 36,7%, poor 16,7%, and very poor 26,7%, so it can be concluded that knowledge level of these pregnant woman are dominantly fair.Keywords : X-Rays Radiation in Dentistry, Pregnant Woman, Knowledge.

Abstract

Oral hygiene is one of local factor that affects the most and could causes any dental problems.  Oral hygiene status of individual or groups, one of them is affected by behaviour. Taking care of oral hygiene is a part of preserving oral health condition behaviour by controlling dental plaque which is aimed to dental plaque removal and prevent the accumulation of the dental plaque, food debris and stain removal, stimulating gingival tissue, and covering teeth surface with fluor that would affect oral hygiene status. The aim of this study is to know the ratio of oral hygiene preservative behaviour and oral hygiene status on children of elementary school age in urban and rural area. This study is a cross-sectional study. Method of sampling is pusposive sampling which included 30 subjects from urban area (MIN Mesjid Raya) and 30 subjects from rural area (MIN Durung). This study was done by using questionnaires of oral hygiene practices and oral hygiene status examination using OHI-S. Analysis result using chi-square test revealed significant ratio between oral hygiene practice and oral hygiene status on children of elementary school age in urban and rural area (p0.05). The conclusion of this study is oral hygiene practices and oral hygiene status at elementary school age children in urban areas are better than elementary school age children in rural areas.Keywords : Oral hygiene, dental plaque control, OHI-S, urban, rural.

Abstract

Dental Health among children generally indicated by bad oral hygiene that usually caused by the the less knowledge of dental health information. The upgrading of dental health could be done by dental health education. Dental health education usually using aids to draw attention and motivation about the content of learning. The aim of this study is to determine the effectiveness of  poster and cartoon animation to gain the  knowledge of dental health education. This study is a- quasi-experimental with pretest and posttest group design to the 5th grade student of SDN 24 Banda Aceh City. This study is using total sampling that devided to poster group aids and cartoon animation group aids, each group will be compare both pretest and posttest by using questionare and the average score by each group aids will be compare to. This study is using analytic descriptive univariate and bivariate. The result of this study is significan increasing score of knowledge both of group aids (p0,05). The conclusion of this study is dental health education using both of group aids showing the better result than without the aids, furthermore cartoon animation aids is more effective than poster aids to upgradedental health for the 5th grade primary school SDN 24 Banda Aceh City.Keywords : Knowledge, Children Dental Health, Dental Health Education, Poster, Cartoon Animation.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Radiology in medicine always involves ionizing radiation. Ionizing radiation in dentistry is used todiagnose, treatment planning, treatment, or lesion development monitoring. Dental radiography procedures mustbe carefully managed because X-rays radiation can damage healthy cells and tissues. The degree of radiation injuryis related to the total radiation dose, the proportion of body irradiated, the volume of tissues irradiated, and the timeinterval of the radiation dose received. This study was aimed to know about the knowledge description of dentalclinic students in RSGM Unsyiah about ionizing radiation and the negative effect of ionizing radiation in dentalradiography. The method of this study is a cross-sectional survey. The study included 254 dental clinic students atRSGM Unsyiah who fulfill inclusion criteria. Subjects were asked to fill questioner about ionizing radiation and thenegative effect of radiation in dental radiography. The result of that study shows that knowledge of dental clinicstudents about ionizing radiation (27,1%) dental clinic students had deficient knowledge, (46,4%) dental clinicstudents had sufficient knowledge, (26,3%) dental clinic students had a good understanding and knowledge ofdental clinic student about negative effect ionizing radiation in dental radiography (15,7%) dental clinic student haddeficient knowledge, (62,2%) dental clinic student had sufficient knowledge, (22%) dental clinic student had goodknowledge. The conclusion of this study showed that knowledge of dental clinic students about ionizing radiationand the negative effect of ionizing radiation in dental radiography is sufficient. Abstract

Maintenance of oral hygiene is one way to improve health because it can prevent the occurence of disease in the oral cavity. The children are still very dependent on their parents in terms of dental hygiene. The parent’s knowledge is very important in the formation of the underlying behaviors that support children oral hygiene. This study aim is to identify the relationship between mother’s knowledge and children’s oral hygiene status. The research design that using is analytic cross sectional method. The research subjects are students age 10-12 years elementary school Kemala Bhayangkari Banda Aceh. The subjects were selected using total sampling and total subjects are 60 students. Based on the result of the Spearman Correlation is significancy at 0,000, it means a relationship between mother’s knowledge and children’s oral hygiene status. Correlation value of 0,638, indicating that direction of a positive correlation with the strength of a strong correlation.Keywords: Mother’s Knowledge, Children’s Oral Hygiene Status, Elementary Students

Abstract

Health is an important condition  inlife and to achieve this it takes a motivation, especially the motivation to recover from a disease. Patient motivation means an impulse from within themselves that cause patient come to visit Oral and Dental Hospital (RSGM) of Syiah Kuala University. Patient motivation is influenced by several factors, which were communication between patient and young dentist and health care and the patient behavior itself.  Motivation in every single patient  would be a positive impact in improving patient dental cooperative or partnership in performing a treatment and maintenance procedure. Cooperative is response behavior of patient which appear by the ability or collaborative skills related to dental procedure. The high level of cooperative will make patient act positive toward dental health so that dental procedure would be more effective and efficient. The purpose of this study is to determine whether there is a role of motivation to patient cooperative  who visited Oral and Dental Hospital (RSGM) of Syiah Kuala University. This study was a cross-sectional study. The sampling method was done by purposive sampling that included 67 subjects who visited Oral and Dental Hospital (RSGM) of Syiah Kuala University. This research was done by using a questionnaire that was designed by the researcher. Results of analysis using Kendall's Tau test showed a significant relationship between motivation patient on patient cooperative  (p 0.05). Abstract

Compliance in health behavior is the extent to which the condition of individual behavior in accordance with health standards. The waste generated by health care are medical waste and non-medical waste.The amount of medical waste originating from health facilities are expected to increase. Dental and Oral Hospital of Syiah Kuala University is the only oral and dental health services in Banda Aceh. Hospital operations which highly complex not only have a positive impact for society, but also allows a negative impact in the form environmental contamination and cross-infection diseases such as HIV / AIDS, hepatitis B and C due to the an incorrect disposal and management of waste. The aim of this study was to describe the compliance of clinical student Faculty of Dentistry of Syiah Kuala University in case of medical and non-medical waste separation. This is a descriptive research with cross sectional data collecting method. This research does not require the consent of the respondent. How to measure in this study is by given a score of 1 when the separation of medical waste is done and given a score of 0 if it is not done. Rate of compliance will be categorized in three categories: good ≥ 75%, medium = 56-74%, and bad ≤ 55%. Data were analyzed by descriptive and presented in tabular or graphical. The results showed that the compliance overview of clinical students Faculty of Dentistry Syiah Kuala University in case of medical and non-medical waste separation as follows; 28 people categorized as good (35%), 41 people categorized as medium (52%), and 10 people categorized as bad (13%). The conclusion of this study indicate the medium category, which amounted to 41 (52%). Keywords : Complience, clinical student, medical and non-medical waste separation.

Abstract

AbstractThe vertical dimension is height of the vertical face which can be measured based on assesment offacial height proportion. Facial height proportion divided into upper and lower. A normal of upper andlower facial height proportion is 50%. Dental malocclusion is a deviate relation between teeth and thiscan be affect the height of a person's face. Angle classification is the most classification whichcommonly used nowadays. Angle classify based on relation between maxilla and mandible first molar.A lower facial height proportion in molar relation class II division 2 is smaller than class I. This isbecause the molar relation class II division 2 has a deep bite as a result of upwards and forwardsmandibular growth. This research is a descriptive survey that aims to see ilustration facial heightproportion in molar relation class I and class II division 2 Angle in Student Faculty of Dentistry. Thesubjects of this study was consists of 133 subjects with molar relation class I and 6 subjects with molarrelation class II division 2 which selection using purposive sampling. Measuring facial heightproportion was used sliding digital caliper which measured from glabella to menton point. The result ofthis study shown that average upper facial height proportion in molar relation class I is 47,03% andclass II division 2 is 48,15%. While, average lower facial height proportion in molar relation class I is52,97% and class II division 2 is 51,84%.Keywords : vertical dimension, facial height proportion and molar relation

Abstract

Kecemasan dental merupakan masalah yang sering terjadi pada pasien yang melkan perawatan ggi dan mulut. Kecemasan merupakan salah satu faktor yang dapat mempengaruhi persepsi nyeri seseorang. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui gambaran tingkat kecemasan pasien dan persepsi nyeri yang dirasakan ketika skeling. Jenis penelitian ini adalah deskriptif dengan desain penelitian cross sectional. Metode pengambilan subjek dilakukan dengan teknik purposive sampling. Subjek penelitian berjumlah 72 orang yang diperoleh dengan menggunakan rumus Slovin, terdapat sebanyak 44 orang perempuan dan 28 orang laki-laki. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan menggunakan kuisioner kecemasan dental corah dan visual analog scale untuk pengukuran nyeri. Hasil analisis menggunakan statistika deskriptif frekuensi dan crosstabs menunjukkan frekuensi tertinggi tingkat kecemasan subjek penelitian yaitu kecemasan ringan sebanyak 47 orang (65,35) dan persepsi nyeri ringan sebanyak 36 orang (76,6%) ketika dilakukan perawatan skeling. Kesimpulan penelitian ini adalah pasien dengan perawatan skeling mengalami kecemasan ringan dan persepsi nyeri yang ringan.Kata Kunci: Kecemasan dental, persepsi nyeri, skeling

Abstract

Knowledge in the field of oral health provides an understanding of how to do maintenance and prevention of dental and oral diseases. Teachers can act as a source of information for students so that they are expected to have sufficient knowledge about dental and oral health applied in the UKGS program. The purpose of this study was to find out how the level of oral and dental knowledge in teachers and students in primary schools with UKGS and without UKGS. The type of research is descriptive. The sampling technique used total sampling method with total research subjects that fulfilled inclusion criteria of 39 teachers and 80 students, consisting of 24 teachers and 64 students in SDN 16 (UKGS) and 15 teachers and 16 students in SDN 46 (without UKGS). Measurement of dental and oral health knowledge was done by using questionnaire. The results showed that the level of knowledge of dental and mouth health of teachers and students at SDN 16 (UKGS) and SDN 46 (without UKGS) had good category with 87.5% percentage for teachers and 82.8% for pupils in SDN 16 (UKGS ) and 80% for teachers and 68.8% for students in SDN 46 (without UKGS).
