Abstract

Background: Prevalence of anemia continues to increase among pregnant women in Indonesia. The micronutrients that are needed to reduce the anemia is still lacking to be accessed by pregnant women. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of multiple micronutrients (MMN) compared to the iron-folic acid to reduce the incidence of anemia among pregnant women. Methods: Systematic review was used in this study using the electronic databases Google Scholar, Science Direct, and PubMed. The articles included in this study were published in 2009-2018 and were written in English language. Results: In total, 380 papers were identified and six articles were included in this study. Study found that the MMN and iron-folic acid had the same effect in influencing the anemia status among pregnant women. However, the MMN had a potential to increase the average of body weight, to reduce the incidence of low birth weight (LBW) and preterm birth among pregnant women. Conclusions: The effectiveness of multi micronutrients in pregnant women is as good as iron-folic acid in reducing the anemia during pregnancy. Further studies need to be conducted to see the effects of MMN on pregnant women by considering other factors such as maternal nutritional status, gestational age, and duration of supplementation

Abstract

Total Fertility Rate (TFR) in Indonesia is 2.6. It’s above the average TFR in ASEAN countries which is 2.44. This condition shows that Indonesia's population growth is high. The herbal plants as an alternative is a safe method of contraception that can reduce the negative effects of using hormonal contraceptives method. The safe method contraception using herbal plants can reduce the negative effects in using hormonal contraceptives. The aim of this study is to determine the changes in endometrial thickness due to the administration of Foeniculum Vulgare M. and Azadirachia indica Juss extracts. The type of this study is a true experimental design with Post Test Only Control Group Design. The subjects were 15 female mice (mus musculus) which were taken randomly and it divided into 3 groups, there were K- (standard care), K+ (contraceptive pills), and E (fennel seed extract and neem leaves extract with a dose of 7.84: 11.2 mg / 20g BW). The treatment was given for 14 days. On the 15th day, the mice were terminated to measure the thickness of the endometrium. The result of the study were analyzed using the ANOVA test and the post hoc Scheffe test. The results study shown that the administration of fennel seed and neem leaf extract had a significant effect in reducing endometrial thickness (p-value 0.05) so that it was proven to have an anti-fertility effect.

Abstract

The COVID-19 epidemic has made primigravida mothers even more anxious, and the psychological effects of worry will have a detrimental effect on labor and delivery. The goal of the study was to identify the characteristics that are correlated with anxiety in primigravida pregnant women who are confronting the COVID-19 pandemic in the third trimester of labor. The study was quantitative with a cross-sectional analytical research design, a 63-person sample size, and total sampling as the sampling method. Bivariate data analysis employed the chi-square test, whereas univariate data analysis used percentage frequency distribution. The results showed that results of the chi-square test showed that there was a correlation between age (p-value = 0.000 less than 0.05), education (p-value = 0.019 less than 0.05) and socioeconomic (p-value = 0.001 less than 0.05) with anxiety on pregnant women in the third trimester of a primigravida in dealing with labor during the COVID-19 pandemic. It is expected that healthcare workers will conduct REBT counseling for pregnant women aged less than 20 years and more than 40 years who experience anxiety, and disseminate information about COVID-19.
