This collaborative classroom action research described the use of storytelling in teaching English speaking. The subjects of the research were 13 junior high school students at SMP Laboratorium STKIP Jambi, Indonesia. The qualitative data consisted of field notes, students’ diaries, photographs, and videos of teaching and learning process collected through observations and analyzed descriptively. The quantitative data were the students' scores in their English speaking performance generated through speaking tests and analyzed by using Microsoft Excel. The findings showed that the use of storytelling in teaching speaking could attract students’ attention to the lesson and encourage them to speak English. Pronouncing words, constructing sentences, and retelling the story could enhance students’ speaking performance. The students’ mean scores in their speaking performance tests got a significant improvement from cycle to cycle.

Melakukan penelitian tindakan kelas dan menulis karya ilmiah merupakan kompetensi yang harus dimiliki oleh guru. Akan tetapi, belum semua guru memiliki komptensi tersebut. Salah satu faktor penyebab kurangnya keterampilan melakukan penelitian tindakan kelas dan menulis karya ilmiah bagi guru adalah kurangnya pelatihan dan pembimbingan penulisan karya ilmiah. Oleh karena itu, perlu diadakan pelatihan dan pembimbingan melakukan penelitian tindakan menulis karya ilmiah bagi mereka. Sebagai upaya peningkatan keterampilan melakukan penelitian tindakan kelas dan menulis karya ilmiah bagi guru, kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk: (1) meningkatkan kemampuan guru SD di Kuala Tungkal dalam melakukan penelitian tindakan kelas; (2) meningkatkan kemampuan guru SD di Kuala Tungkal untuk menulis karya ilmiah dari hasil penelitian tindakan kelas mereka melalui workshop serta pendampingan menulis. Adapun kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini dilaksanakan di Kecamatan Tungkal Ilir. Metode yang digunakan dalam kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini adalah dengan metode worshop, diskusi, praktek dan pendampingan. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat diikuti oleh guru-guru SD di kecamatan Tungkal Ilir. Kegiatan berlagsung selama satu hari dari pagi sampai sore yang diawali dengan pemberian materi penelitian tindakan kelas dan pembahasan artikel yang berisi hasil penelitian tindakan kelas yang kemudian diikuti dengan pembahasan tentang karya ilmiah dan prosedur penulisannya dalam kelompok kelompok kecil. Berdasarkan hasil pelaksanaan, pengabdian sejenis ini perlu dilakukan lagi mengingat masih banyak para guru sekolah dasar yang belum memahami konsep penelitian tindakan kelas dan penulisan karya ilmiah, khususnya artikel ilmiah hasil penelitian.

Writing scientific article is one of the ways to develop teacher professionalism. However, writing scientific article remains a problem for some Islamic High School Teachers. To explore about the problem, a preliminary research was conducted. Focus Group Discussion was used to gather the data. The result showed that most of the Islamic High School teachers who became the participants of the research never publish a scientific article because they get difficulties not only in exploring the ideas but also in writing the article itself. The teachers admitted that writing scientifically is not their habit. Thus, encouraging those teachers to write scientifically is highly necessary and supportive atmosphere among teachers should be developed. It takes time to develop a belief that writing and publishing scientific article would help the participant teachers developing their professionalism.

The current research serves to portray the interlacing maxims which are reflected in the English Department students’ verbal communication and to depict the politeness which is manifested in the realization of those maxims holistically on the basis of the existing context of speech. The research is designed in the descriptive- qualitative-interpretative by means of the interactive model. This model comprises three research lines, namely: data reduction, data display, and data conclusion/ verification. The data for the present research were gathered repeatedly up to they are exhausted. In terms of data reduction, it is carried out by decreasing the unnecessary utterances or by maintaining the utterances that confirm the graciousness. The utterances that confirm the maxims and graciousness are displayed for having the analysis. The analysis are verified several times up to the researchers come at the equal conclusion. Accordingly, the research engages a group (class) of students as the research participants and it reveals the sequence of maxims, i.e., (1) the Tact maxim, (2) the Generosity maxim, (3) the Approbation maxim (4) the Modesty maxim, and (5) the Agreement maxim conveyed in the diverse contexts by the English Department students at Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Jambi University.

ABSTRACT Vocabulary is an important factor in learning a language. People cannot hear, speak, read, and write without knowing vocabulary. Likewise in learning a foreign language such as English, vocabulary plays a very important role. However, not all junior high school students learn vocabulary in English easily. This is caused by several factors including learning media that are less attractive so that children get bored quickly, teaching methods or techniques of teachers who are not creative and monotonous, and teaching and learning activities that are more dominated by teachers without involving or involving students to participate. Rumah Belajar application is one of application used in learning and found a new understanding of the new media used by the teacher in media online learning. In this research, the researcher used Classroom Action Research as the design method. The data was collected from the seventh grade which has been learned using Rumah Belajar. The sample was 24 students selected by purposive sampling. The research found that the majority of students had a positive perception of Rumah Belajar in learning based on the results of their interviews. They improved their vocabulary learning through the Rumah Belajar application in learning and found a new understanding of the new media used by the teacher in media online learning. On the other hand, some students gave the perception that online learning has obstacles affected by a poor network, the quality of the student's mobile phone, and the capacity of the online learning application. This research aims to develop an English narrative writing book for class XI students using a structured development model. Through the stages of need identification, analysis, development and product evaluation, the book is prepared taking into account quality standards and student learning needs. Book validation is carried out by subject experts, design experts, teachers and students, who state that the book is content valid and suitable for use in learning. The results of product trials showed positive responses from various parties, confirming the book's effectiveness in improving students' English narrative writing skills. The novelty of this research lies in the systematic approach in developing English narrative writing books for class XI students, which pays attention to various aspects of learning and ensures relevance to students' needs. The implication of this research is that it contributes to enriching learning resources in English subjects at the secondary school level, as well as providing meaningful guidance for the development of English learning books in the future.

This study was aimed to produce the steps of developing and learning material of writing recount text effectively and effisiently in writing of recount text learning at MTs Asyafi’iyah. The developing model is adopted from Borg and Gall Model. In this case the writer use 6 main steps of Borg and Gall because according the writer analysis 6 main steps is effectively and effisiently in making the product of learning material. The sixth main steps is: 1) Research & Information Collecting, 2) Planning, 3) Develop Preliminary Form of Product, 4) Field Testing and Product Revision, 5) Final Product Revision, 6) Disseminassion and Implementation. Offeral findings showed that developing learning material o f writing recount text for students of the Yunior High School/Religion Yunior High School at eight grade is good qualify. Expert evaluate that this multimedia and learning material is good to be media and help the teacher to deliver the material and it could be motivated the students in learning process. Generally, based on the data analysis, expert validation or field trial showed that the quality of English Learning process in recount text writing for the eight grade of Yunior High School or Religion Yunior High School is good, so this developing product could be used as media in English learning process.
