Abstract

The aim of this research is to explicate and account for the verb of eating in Manggaraian language. There are some verbs denoting the meaning of eating, such as hang, lompong, jumik, mboros, takung, la’ur, alas, pongo mu’u. The qualitative research method was applied to unveil and explain the explication of meaning in the given verbs respectively. Field-observation and recording were the techniques used to gather the data from the natural speakers utterances as well as part of the data were based on the researchers’ intuitive knowledge as the native speakers. The data were analyzed through the theory of Natural Semantic Metalanguage (NSM). The results of the analysis reveal that Manggaraian language has the inventory of verbs designating the meaning of eating such as hang, jumik, lompong, mboros, takung, raci, alas, pongo mu’u. In terms of semantic prime, the verbs are under the category of the action verb. Comparing to the other verbs, the verbs jumik, lompong, pongo mu’u have more delicate meaning of eating. Furthermore, those verbs are classified into generic and specific category of meaning. The verbs “hang, jumik, mboros” are generic in meaning while the verbs lompong alas,racik, pongo mu’u, takung are specific in meaning. The verbs are categorized into non-compositional polysemy. Regarding the explication of meaning, the verbs reveal the action and the process of eating involving certain parts of body (hands and mouth) as well as specific tools (plate, spoon, bowl).

Abstract

The use of textbooks as a media in teaching learning processes especially in English Language Teaching cannot be denied. That’s why this present study is intended to investigate types of speaking activities presented in buku Bahasa Inggris for Tourism Vocational High School. The content of an English text book was described and analyzed by using a descriptive qualitative method. Buku Bahasa Inggris kelas X had been chosen as the source of data. The collected data were analyzed through some steps such as (1) classifying the data into types of speaking activities (Acting from Script, Communication Games, Discussions, Paper Talk, Questionnaires, Simulation and Role Play) and (2) identifying the dominant type of speaking activities. The result indicates buku Bahasa Inggris Kelas X contains six types of speaking activities and it is dominated by speaking activity of prepared talk

Abstract

Teaching is an integrated activity with learning goals or objectives and assessment process. As such, it is conducted on the basis of particular learning goals which subsequently requires assessment activities to look into the impact of teaching on students learning process. The aim of this community service is to furnish the knowledge regarding the assessment process, particularly Assessment for Learning (AfL) of English teachers involving in MGMPS of English Subject at SMPN 9 Ruteng. The method used was in- service training employing Information Processing Theory namely information encoding, information decoding, infromation storing, and information rehearsal. The results have indicated that the English teachers involving in MGMPS SMPN 9 Ruteng were able to make a good instructional design along with the Assessmenf for Learning (AfL). It was proven on their works as they did the task provided by the community service team. Yet, they need to have a further professional development on curriculum and asessment following the changes and goverment policies on education.

Abstract

The demands of the 4.0 industrial revolution and the implementation of blended learning as the result of the COVID-19 pandemi are very solid in educational field. Teachers are required to be able to carry out distance learning activities by utilizing various learning media which are mostly technological-based. This Community Service aims at improving the ability and or skill of elementary school teachers in Ata Dei District, Lembata Regency in utilizing technological-based media in learning activities. 25 elementary school teachers in Ata Dei District involved in this PkM. The PkM was designed in two activities namely, seminar and workshop. The seminar was carried out for 3 hours while the workshop was carried out for 3 days. In this activity, a portal launched by KEMDIKBUD namely portal Rumah Belajar was introduced. It consists of 4 features, namely the sumber belajar feature, the laboratorium maya feature, the wahana jelajah angkasa feature and the edugame feature. The impact of this activity is increasing the knowledge and skills of elementary school teachers in Ata Dei District, Lembata Regency in using the portal rumah belajar as a digital technology-based learning media whic is effective and efficient in learning activities, especially daring learning.

Abstract

This study is intended to investigate how the EFL teachers in Ruteng run their English class within COVID-19 pandemic era. It focuses on the media used in teaching and learning process and their reason/s of choosing and using those media. It is significance to examine as the teaching and learning process within COVID-19 pandemic is different from conventional teaching and learning process. The study is done under qualitative research and has 30 EFL teachers of both junior and senior high schools in Ruteng, Flores, East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia as the respondents. The data were collected by using a questionnaire and doing an interview in WhatsApp. The result shows that (1) there are six applications used by EFL teachers as their teaching media (WhatsApp, Google Classroom, Zoom, Google meet and Schoology) with the most dominant application used is WhatsApp. (2) Each EFL teacher in Ruteng uses at least two-four applications in running their online class and (3) the purpose of using those applications are to share the material, arrange task or examination, correct and give feedback to students’ work.
