Abstract

Abstract This study aimed at 1) analyzing the forms of the students’ lexicogrammatical errors, 2) analyzing the teachers’ correction on the students’ lexicogrammatical errors, and 3) describing the teachers ‘perception on the students’ lexicogrammatical errors whether it is a normal thing as a part of learning or as an obstacle which hinder the students’ progress. The subjects were two English teachers and second semester Room Division students. This study was designed in the form of descriptive qualitative research and the instruments being used were human instrument, questionnaire, and interview. The findings show that 1) there were 19 categories of errors that occurred in the students’ writings, 2) both of the subjects used direct correction, but there were some similarities and differences in the forms and the functions, and 3) the teachers’ perceptions were classified into 4 major points, namely perception on writing and its problems, perception on the nature of lexicogrammatical errors, perception on the value of errors, and perception on the sources of errors.     Keywords: lexicogrammatical errors, teachers’ correction, teachers’ perception

Abstract

Note-taking acts as a tool to provide students for identifying and understanding themost important aspects of what they are learning (Borr et al., 2012). People who take notestypically retain more information which has a positive effect on learning (Titsworth in Borret al., 2012). This study aims to investigate the preference and strategies used by the studentswhen taking note. The medium they use indicates numbers of words generated in takingthe note. There were three medium being utilized; longhand (traditional using pen andpaper), laptop and mobile phone note. This study was conducted with 27 hospitalitystudents who were learning Business English for Hotel and Tourism. Pre-test, post-test,interview, and questionnaire as well were couples of instruments used to obtain the data.The media preference they used indicates the numbers of word generated, abbreviationsand symbols, looks, accurateness with the lecture time to process the note, format of notetaking, and the result of the test.

Abstract

Abstract

Indonesia has been a member of the Asean Economy Community (AEC) since 2016 and by becoming a member of the MEA, Indonesia has turned into a strategic market in marketing foreign products both goods and services. With the existence of the AEC, a single market will be created in the ASEAN region. This single market will create a free flow of goods, services, and capital and investment trade. In addition to getting a lot of benefits from it, there are also many challenges faced, one of which is in terms of the readiness of its human resources. Lack of skills to communicate with foreigners is one thing that needs to be highlighted. The same thing happened to the golf caddy at New Kuta Golf Pecatu who still uses body language to communicate with international tourists. This research aims to identify the needs analysis of the caddies to develop their communicative competence to have meaningful communication with the guests. English for Caddy is a form of English for Specific Purposes (ESP), in which the results of this research can be used as a reference for subsequent research, namely syllabus planning and the development of teaching materials of ESP. There were 20 caddies as the informants to be involved. The data collection was done through observations, questionnaire and interview.

Abstract

Current economic condition is not an ideal phase due to the Covid 19 Pandemic. The impact is felt by all aspects of society, including the society of Tonja village who mostly work in the hospitality and tourism business. The International Tourism and Business Institute seeks to contribute to family economic defense. The purpose of the community service is providing knowledge and training to the community about making traditional beverage that are beneficial for body health and creating innovative products that have the opportunity to be produced commercially by the community in the healthy living community movement. The method of implementation is by conducting workshops and demonstrations. The results obtained have a positive effect for the PKK in Tonja Village to continue to innovate during the pandemic by creating innovative products.

Abstract

Penggunaan media pembelajaran berbasis teknologi yang tepat sangat dibutuhkan untuk menunjang proses pembelajaran daring. Salah satu medai yang dapat digunakan yakni aplikasi Quizizz yang bisa dipakai secara langsung dan bersamaan dengan Learning Management System. Adapun tujuan dari penelitian ini yakni untuk mengidentifikasi bagaimana implementasi Quizizz dalam evaluasi pembelajaran online pada English For Food And Beverage Service. Penelitian ini merupakan jenis penelitian deskriptif kualitatif yang dilakukan untuk memperoleh informasi mengenai keadaan saat ini. Subjek yang terlibat pada penelitian ini yakni sebanyak 60 mahasiswa dari program studi Manajemen Perhotelan. Pengumpulan data dalam penelitian dilakukan dengan metode wawancara, kuesioner dan observasi dengan metode analisis data secara deskriptif. Hasil analisis penelitian menunjukkan bahwa implementasi penggunaan Quizizz sangat membantu mahasiswa dalam mengingat kembali semua materi yang disampaikan secara online dan meningkatkan minat belajar Bahasa Inggris mahasiswa. Hal ini didukung oleh hasil analisis kuisioner yang menunjukkan bahwa 78,4% mahasiswa menyatakan setuju untuk penggunaan Quizizz menarik minat mereka untuk belajar bahasa Inggris. Hanya 21,65%  mahasiswa yang merass cukup setuju. Dan tidak ada mahasiswa yang menyatakan bahwa Quizizz ini tidak meningkatkan minat mereka untuk mengikuti perkuliahan. Sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa aplikasi Quizizz sangat efektif digunakan untuk membantu mahasiswa dalam proses pembelajaran daring serta dapat mempermudah proses evaluasi pembelajaran oleh dosen.

Abstract

This article describes a number of new language terms in their development in the world of creative tourism, especially for tourists. This term arose as a result of the growing and varied types of new tourism that emerged because of the need to relieve boredom from the fatigue of daily routines. In addition, the use of this term is also inseparable from the development and proliferation of the use of social media among the global community. Even these terms are increasingly embedded in the minds of tourists and the surrounding community so that all elements of creative tourism are now commonplace in using this language variation which is very influenced with the changing needs of tourists. Generally, this language term is a combination of two words that refer to new meanings in the needs of contemporary creative tourism. Keywords: language terms, creative tourism, social media

Abstract

This study was aimed to identify the effectiveness of the Wordless Curriculum Vitae and the perceptions of users in a number of hotels located in Badung, Bali upon the Wordless Curriculum Vitae. The method used was qualitative approach and data were obtained through the distribution of online questionnaires, interviews and documentation studies. The results showed that 90% of Modern Curriculum Vitae’s Human Resource users were able to attract their interest in processing to the next level (interview session) and conveying the meaning of language through icons (symbols) substitution. The CV could convey meaning effectively without changing the meaning. In conclusion, this Wordless CV by the substitution of the icons (symbols) has successfully delivered same meaning compared to the conventional CV.
