Abstract

This research was done to explore bioactivity of Xylocarpus granatum’s stem extract as tyrosinase inhibitor for alternative preventing black spot in Litopenaeus vannamei postharvest. In this research, extraction of bioactive compound from X. granatum stem was done by soaking the stem in 96% methanol for 24h at temperature 29°C. The methanol was evaporated by using rotary evaporator at temperature 50°C. The extract was dilute with distillate water at series of dilutions (10%, 30%, 50%, 70%, 90%, and distillate water as the control), and then immersing L. vannamei into X. granatum’s stem extract as much as 10ml for 6h, and finally the data analyzing use the Kruskal Wallis test and the Least Significant Difference (LSD) test with the degree of confident 95%. The result showed that X. granatum’s stem extract is able to prevent a black spot of L. vannamei after harvesting process. Furthermore, concentration of 10 % of extract is an effective concentration for preventing a black spot and the control has black spot 0.0360 – 0.0373 mm2.

Abstract

Mangrove ecosystems all along coastal area has a lot of benefits, such as home for coastal animals (fishes and insects) and acting as coastal line protector. One of the biggest mangrove ecosystem in Surabaya is Wonorejo, which now not only act as mangrove preservation but also becoming one of eco-tourism destination in East Java. Tourists are usually come to take photos, fishing, enjoying the birds chirping and the ambience of mangrove forest. Beside that, Wonorejo also becoming one of research object for mangrove ecosystem in East Java. Several research has been done, such as research to examine mangorve diversity, birds, fishes and crabs. One of the research that hasn’t been done is about Arthropods, especially in the class of Insects and Arachnids. In this paper, the potentiality of Arthropods diversity all along Wonorejo Ecotourism Area will be examined and researched. The results will be used as alternative in order to develop educational function in this area. Tourists will not only be enjoying the ambience and take photos, but also they will have educational experience when visiting Wonorejo. Arthropode samples from several Ordos, such as Diptera, Hymenoptera, Lepidoptera, Odonata, Coleoptera, Hemiptera, Orthoptera and Araneae have taken on June 2016 in Wonorejo Ecotourism Area using sweepnet and hands collecting methods. All of those sample then have examined in Zoology and Animal Engineering Laboratory at Institut Teknologi Sepuluh November, Surabaya. Then, the data will be used as the background to develop Wonorejo tourism potentials, especially in educational form.

Abstract

The study was aimed to evaluating anticancer activity of A. suberitoides on protein profile of blood plasma of fibrosarcoma mice (M. musculus). Mice were induced by Benzo(a)pyrene on the subcutaneous tissue intravenously with a concentration of 0,3 gram/0,2 oleum olivarum/day for 2 weeks. Mice were treated with ethanolic extract of A. suberitoides every day for two weeks. There were six groups. The first group (I) was control. Group II, mice were induced by CMCNa, Group III mice were treated by Cyclophosphamide. Group IV, V and VI mice were treated by ethanolic extract of A. suberitoides with 500, 1000 and 1500 mg/weight. Mice blood were taken at week fifteen. Protein profile of mice was measured by electrophoresis SDS-PAGE. The protein profile indicated that the mice were induced benzo(a)pyrene (Group II, III, IV, V and VI) have a new protein band (41 kDa). The protein band not presented in control (Group I). The protein band ( 7 kDa) was in Groups I and II, but it not presented in Groups III, IV, V and VI. The most interesting protein band was 115 kDa, which presented only in Groups II, III and IV. The research showed that the sponge extract with concentration of 1000 and 1500 mg/weight repressed the expression of protein 115 kDa

Abstract

Along with the increasing number of people and all economic activities carried out, waste becomes acontamination that continues to leave problems. Sidoarjo Regency has 18 sub-districts with 350 villagesand a population of around 2.3 million people with a high level of economic growth. According to the 2017Sidoarjo Regency Environmental and Hygiene Office (DLHK), reported that Sidoarjo district residentsdispose of household waste around 0.5 kg per day. DLHK identifies the lack of Integrated WasteManagement Sites (TPST) and Final Waste Disposal Sites (TPAS) to accommodate and manage wastefrom the Sidoarjo Regency community. The lack of TPST and TPAS is not a problem in wastemanagement if active community involvement is involved in processing household waste known asCommunity Based Waste Management (PSBM). This abdimas method is a campaign about theimportance of the role of the community in improving environmental status and composting training withraw materials in the form of kitchen waste with a simple household-scale tool located in the KeteganVillage office, Tanggulangin Sub-district, Sidoarjo. The participants were very enthusiastic about takingpart in the training and were eager to practice household composting on a household scale for the need tofertilize plants planted in the yard. Participants want monitoring by the service team on the compostingresults that have been carried out by each participant.
