Abstract

The objective of this research was to find out the improvement of students’ speaking skill teaching through Whole Brain Teaching method. The design used in this research was pre experimental. The population of this research was at the tenth grade students of SMK Negeri 2 OKU and the sample were which consisted of 36 students. The researcher used purposive sampling in taking the samples. The pre-test and post-test were used as the techniques for collecting the data. Instrument in this research was an oral speaking test. Based on the result of the pre- test, the mean score of the pre-test was 56.28. The result of the post-test the mean score was 68.89. Based on the statistical analysis, the researcher found that the value of Sig.= 0,000 less than the value of Significance level (a=0,05 and df = 35). It means that  there was significantly improvement in teaching speaking by Whole Brain Teaching method at the the tenth grade students of SMK Negeri 2 OKU.

Abstract

Speaking is one way to express ourselves when communicate. Most of students fail when they perform speaking skill. They faced problems in expressing themselves using in accurate, fluent and even simple sentences. Task based learning is an approach that need the completion of meaningful tasks. Task Based Learning focuses on the use of language for genuine in communication.  This study used quasi experimental research. The sample of the study is Fourth Semester of English education study program of Baturaja University with the total sample 36 students. The data is conducted of two groups: one experimental group and one control group taught conventionally. Based on the data analysis the researcher concluded that task based learning was effective to improve the students’ speaking skill in EFL Classroom. The result data from the mean score of posttest in experimental class was 49,11and the mean score of posttest in control class was 51,88 . While, the value of sig. (2-tailed)=0.000 less than significant level (α=0.05), it meant that alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected. The researcher concluded the result of posttest in experimental higher than the result of posttest in control class. It means that task based learning was significantly improve the students’ speaking skill at fourth semester of English education study program of Baturaja University. Based on the finding on questionnaire, it could be described that almost the students gave positive response on the use of task based learning. The students strongly agree that task based learning help them enjoy in learning English and they also mostly agree that task based activities is a good way to improve English vocabulary.

Abstract

Peer-mediated instruction strategy adalah intervensi kelas yang memberikan bantuan antar para siswa. Diyakini bahwa peer-mediated instruction strategy dapat meningkatkan hasil akademik, sosial, dan komunikasi bagi para siswa. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui efektivitas Peer-mediated instruction strategy dalam meningkatkan kemampuan pemahaman membaca siswa. Penelitian ini dilakukan di SMAN 5 OKU dan diikuti oleh enam puluh tiga siswa yang dipilih melalui teknik purposive sampling. Selanjutnya, 30 pertanyaan pilihan ganda digunakan dalam tes membaca pemahaman dan uji-t digunakan untuk mengetahui apakah Peer-mediated instruction dapat membuat perbedaan yang signifikan terhadap pencapaian pemahaman membaca siswa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa baik CWPT dan PALS, sebagai dua model Peer-mediated instruction strategy, efektif digunakan sebagai alternatif strategi pembelajaran membaca.

Abstract

The objectives of this study was conducted to know the students’ preference on using screen text toward thier reading comprehension. In this case, finding out the information that can be used in teaching learning process toward improving the students’ reading comprehension is the focus of the educators. Moreover, the students’ familiarity reading the text by their mobile technology was as the source of information. The population of this study was students at English Education Study Program of Baturaja Univesity in academic year 2018/2019 and 36 students as sample. The research method was survey design, which to investigate the students’ response on the use of screen text relate to their reading comprehension. Questionaire was used in collecting the data, which was classified into four aspects: reading comprehension skills, retention and recall memory, motivation and psychology aspect. The data was analyzed the dominant percentage of each item. Based on the result, students were found to have higher positive preference of the reading by using screen text on the aspect of motivation. It could be concluded that reading a text on screen can give motivation for their reading skill and comprehension. Keywords : preference; screen text; reading comprehension

Abstract

This study aims to find out the effectiveness of the blended learning model on reading skill for tenth grade at MA Asyifa’ Baturaja. This study used the qualitative descriptive research design. The population of this research was 19 students of Tenth grade at MA Asyifa’ Baturaja. The researcher took sample by used total sampling technique because the total population was less than 100 respondent. The data was collected by used questionnaire that consists of 20 statements that consist 0f 4 categories put forward by Keller, namely: Attention, Relevance, Confidence, and Satisfaction (ARCS). The researcher used descriptive statistics based on the percentages obtained from the result of recapitulation. Based on theory ARCS the researcher get the results, the attention percentage 64,4% in good category, relevance percentage 62% in good category, confidence percentage 66,75% in good category and satisfaction percentage 57,25% in fair category. From percentage of each category, the researcher get average 62,6% in the good category. The finding indicated that analysis the effectiveness of blended learning model on reading skill is good category, in sense blended learning is effective during pandemic Covid-19.

Abstract

Mitra kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini adalah Sekolah Dasar Negeri 92 OKU. Tujuan dari kegiatan pengabdian ini adalah untuk memberikan pengetahuan dan pemahaman pengembangan media pembelajaran berbasis power point bagi guru SD Negeri 92 OKU. Adapun permasalahan mitra adalah belum optimalnya pemahaman guru tentang cara pembuatan media pembelajaran, untuk mengatasi permasalahan tersebut perlu memberikan pelatihan pengembangan media pembelajaran berbasis power point bagi guru SD Negeri 92 OKU sehingga dapat meningkatkan pengetahuan dan pemahaman guru dalam membuat media pembelajaran. Jika guru memahami pembuatan media pembelajaran power point, guru akan lebih termotivasi dalam membuat berbagai media dalam pembelajaran khususnya power point. Metode pelaksanaan dalam kegiatan ini menggunakan metode konvensional dengan melakukan pelatihan kepada guru di SD Negeri 92 OKU. Kegiatan dilakukan secara terbimbing berdasarkan tingkat kesukaran dari masing-masing guru. Target luaran program ini adalah peningkatan pemahaman pembuatan dan pengembangan media pembelajaran berbasis power point bagi guru SD Negeri 92 OKU. Selama kegiatan pelatihan dilaksanakan, materi ajar yang diberikan adalah materi tentang aplikasi powerpoint. Hasil kegiatan pelatihan ini berdasarkan pengamatan para peserta selama kegiatan, peserta sudah memiliki kemampuan dalam memasukkan gambar dan mengedit teks ke dalam aplikasi PowerPoint.

Abstract

Reading comprehension is a complex process, it does not happen automatically. The process of comprehension begins when the reader encounters some new content, working memory is activated in order to capture the information already stored in long-term memory. Among some factors that influence students’ reading difficulties are low prior knowledge, lack of vocabulary and rate or fluency in reading. The reader is really required to consistent in maintaining reading rate of the text understanding and focus attention or concentrate fully on reading in order to understand the discourse content as a whole. In increasing the students’ reading ability, technology can be used as teaching tool. They are computer, mobile phone, tablet, or LCD. It has a big influence in education especially teaching reading. Most of students have experience reading a text from those technologies, or it can be said reading a text on screen, in their daily life. Therefore the objectives of this research was conducted to know the effect of using screen text in improving the students’ reading rate and reading comprehension. The population is students at English Education Study Program of Baturaja Univesity in academic year 2018/2019 and 36 students as sample. The research method was pre-experimental design, with pre-test and post-test, which to know the improvement after giving the treatment. Tests were used in collecting the data, silent reading rate test and reading comprehension test. Based on the result, it found that screen text have not only affected students’ reading rate but also comprehension.

Abstract

Various types of scholarships are given to students who have achievements both academic and non-academic achievements. Conditions that often occur in the process of awarding scholarships, the assessment is not always decided based on definite considerations and predetermined criteria. Therefore, a decision support system is needed that can assist the scholarship selection team in making effective and efficient decisions. The decision support system to be built applies the Simple Additive Weighting (SAW) method with criteria such as IPS, GPA, Parents' Income, Number of Dependents of parents and Achievement. With the new system, it is expected to help the selection team related to managing applicant data, selection and proposal of scholarship recipients can be done more easily and quickly. After calculation, the highest score of 90.5 was obtained on behalf of Candra K which deserves to be a priority and recommended in receiving scholarships.
