Abstract

Cassava peel is the waste produced from processing made from cassava as a raw material in various industrial products. Cassava peels can be used as an ingredient in the manufacture of bio adsorbent, this is because cassava peels contain cellulose. Zinc is a heavy metal that can cause poisoning and damage to the environment if it exceeds quality standards. The purpose of this study was to determine the optimum adsorption efficiency of cassava peel bio adsorbent and to determine differences in absorption of heavy metals at variations in flow rate and bed depth. The variations in the flow rate used were 2 mL/min, 4 mL/min, and 6 mL/min, while for bed depth, they were 12 centimeters, 15 centimeters, and 18 centimeters. The data analysis method used is descriptive and statistical analysis, Kruskal Wallis. The results obtained are that the optimum adsorption efficiency of heavy metals is at a flow rate of 2 mL/minute with a bed depth of 15 cm, the absorption percentage is 92.6% with an initial level of 5.726 mg/Liter down to 0.424 mg/Liter. The data obtained from the statistical test showed that there was a significant difference in the flow rate variation, and for the bed depth variation, there was no significant difference.
