Abstract

Makrozoobentos merupakan salah satu organisme yang keberadaannya banyak terdapat di ekosistem lamun. Tujuan penelitian untuk menganalisis perbedaan kelimpahan individu dan spesies makrozoobentos di bulan purnama dan perbani, melihat korelasi kepadatan makrozoobentos dengan penutupan lamun, dan mengetahui kontribusi spesies makrozoobentos pada habitat lamun. Penelitian ini dilakukan di pulau panggang dengan 3 stasiun pengamatan makrozoobentos di ekosistem lamun pada bulan Maret dan April 2016. Pengambilan data makrozoobentos di lamun secara sistematis menggunakan metode transek kuadran 1x1 m dan corer berdiameter 10 cm untuk infauna. Menganalisis nilai kerapatan, tutupan lamun dan kelimpahan makrozoobentos. Analisis data statistik kelimpahan makrozoobentos menggunakan uji ANOVA, korelasi kepadatan makrozoobentos dengan tutupan lamun menggunakan regresi linear sederhana dan kontribusi spesies pada bulan purnama dan perbani menggunakan analisis SIMPER. Hasil penelitian didapatkan tidak adanya perbedaan nyata kelimpahan individu makrozoobentos di bulan purnama dan perbani. Sedangkan spesies didapatkan perbedaan nyata yang signifikan. Korelasi positif antara kepadatan makrozoobentos dengan tutupan lamun dibulan purnama, sedangkan pada bulan perbani berkorelasi negative. Analisis SIMPER menunjukan kontribusi spesies makrozoobentos tertinggi di tiap-tiap stasiun di bulan purnama dan perbani adalah spesies Cerithium salebrosum. Kesimpulan kepadatan spesies makrozoobentos menunjukkan perbedaan nyata di bulan purnama dan perbani, namun tidak pada kelimpahan individu.

Abstract

The genetic connectivity of soft coral is influenced by current and distance between islands. The complexity of islands and geographical region in Indonesia might influence the distribution of soft corals.  The information of genetic connectivity can be used to design marine protected areas and to avoid destruction and possible extinction. The objective of the present study was to analyze genetic connectivity of one species of soft coral, Sarcophyton trocheliophorum, in three populations spanning Java, Nusa Tenggara, and Sulawesi’s waters, and to describe its implication for marine protected area. The mitochondrial protein-coding gene (750 bp of ND2) was used to analyze genetic population structure and genetic connectivity. Genetic connectivity was found in all populations with Fst value of 0.227 to 0.558, indicating populations had the close genetic relationship. The local and Indonesian currents were expected to distribute the larva to islands as a stepping stone, they moved slowly to spread them self far away. Tanakeke island (Sulawesi population) might be a center connectivity of S. trocheliophorum populations. Abstract

Coral reefs ecosystems are currently under high threat from human activities. LIPI (Indonesian Institute of Sciences) reported that only 5.2 % in 2006 of Indonesian coral reef (an area of 85.700 km2) is still considered in very good. Although these data are further need to be verified, but this can be as basic information that coral reefs in Indonesia need special attention and action. It is unfortunate that the current method to determine the health of reefs is limited. General practitioners are usually using a standard categorization by Yap and Gomez (1988). However, many drawbacks appeared of the use of this standard in Indonesia. This study aims to explore and evaluate the various standards in determining the health of coral reef, and formulate an easy and precise standard for practitioners. This study combines several standards of key parameters in coral reefs. The parameter that used in determining the health of reefs in this study is a combination of percent cover of live coral, algae and mortality index. The proposed criteria for health of coral reef as follows: excellent, good, fair, and poor. These criteria are expected to facilitate practitioner in evaluating the health of coral reefs in accurate and precise that is suitable for Indonesian coral reefs.

Abstract

Grouper fish is the most exploited commodity for coral fisheries. The controversy that occurred between researchers regarding the identification of fish species is a problem that is quite alarming. Identification using morphometric measurements, shape and color or morphology is considered still not accurate in determining the fish species. The DNA barcoding method uses COI markers by tracing the nucleotide bases to determine which species of biota have advantages in species identification. This study aims to identify grouper fish species in the traditional Muara angke fish market by using morphological methods and DNA barcoding. The identification results obtained from the morphological methods (shape, color and morphometrics) that the sample species are white-tailed grouper fish (Epinephelus areolatus) by looking at morphological characteristics, namely the white lines on the caudal fins and brown spots on the body. Identification using the DNA Barcoding method using the COI markers showed that the fish samples were 95% similar to E. areolatus.

Abstract

Keseimbangan suatu ekosistem tercipta oleh adanya interaksi antara makhluk hidup dengan lingkungannya. Rusak atau hilangnya suatu aspek akan mengganggu keseimbangan ekosistem tersebut. Salah satu aspek biota yang memiliki peranan dalam ekosistem adalah ikan Carangoides malabaricus yang merupakan konsumen perairan.  Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi sampel ikan menggunakan analisis morfologi dan DNA barcoding. Hasil analisis menggunakan morfologi menunjukkan bahwa sampel yang ada berasal dari genus Carangoides. Hasil analisis menggunakan COI menunjukkan bahwa sampel merupakan ikan Carangoides malabaricus dengan nilai kesamaan mencapai 99,40%

Abstract

Kelangkaan data spasial kelautan merupakan permasalahan mendasar dalam perencanaan pembangunan kelautan di negara berkembang seperti lndonesia. Untuk mengatasi permasalahan ini, teknologi inderaja menjadi salah-satu alternatif pilihan. Salah satu ekosistem laut yang mengandung kekayaan sumberdaya alam adalah ekosistem terumbu karang. Pemanfaatan data inderaja untuk pemetaan ekosistem terumbu karang telah diperkenalkan di lndonesia sejak tahun 90-an dan saat ini sudah umum digunakan di Indonesia. Namun demikian, data inderaja mempunyai keterbatasan untuk memetakan objek terumbu karang karena berada hingga kedalaman tertentu yang tidak ada penetrasi cahaya. Pola distribusi terumbu karang yang mengikuti geomorfologi dasar perairan sangat mempengaruhi hasil penginderaan. Hasil penelitian di kepulauan Una-una Togean menuniukkan bahwa interpretasi dari citra satelit tidak menggambarkan kondisi terumbu karang yang sesungguhnya.Kata Kunci: Data Spasial, Kelautan, Inderaja, Terumbu Karang ABSTRACTThe lack of marine spatial data is the fundamental problems in marine development planning in developing countries like Indonesia. We need remote sensing technology to be one alternative option to get over this problem. A coral reef ecosystem is one of the marine ecosystems that contain a rich of marine resources. Utilization of remote sensing data for napping coral reef ecosystems have been introduced in Indonesia since the 90’s and now is commonly used in Indonesia. However, the remote sensing data has limitations for coral reef napping object being in a certain depth into which has no light penetration. Distribution patterns of coral reef following the bottom geomorphology of water influence the sensory results. The results of research conducted in the Una-una Togean Island showed that the coral reef map derived satellite images did not describe the real condition of the reef. Abstract

Abstract. Research on the sponge barnacle of Indonesia is very rare, and this study is aimed to describe the morphological characteristics of sponge barnacles and their specific relationship with their sponge host species. This research was a survey and sponge samples were collected by tearing apart any available sponge found in three sampling locations, typically coral reef areas of Weh Island, Seribu Islands, and Karimunjawa Islands. Sponge barnacles contained in sponge samples were observed using stereo microscope and scanning electron microscope, and species identification was determined based on the morphological description of Darwin (1854), Pilsbry (1916), Martin dan Davis (2001), and Kolbasov (1993). Four species of sponge barnacles were found consisting of Acasta cyathus, Acasta fenestrata, Euacasta dofleini, and Membranobalanus longirostrum. Specific relationships of barnacle and its sponge host were found between Euacasta dofleini and Haliclona sp. and between Membranobalanus longirostrum and Suberites sp. respectively. Keywords : sponge; barnacle; acasta; membranobalanus; biodiversityAbstrak. Penelitian teritip spons Indonesia jarang dilakukan sejak kelompok ini pertama kali dideskripsikan hingga saat ini. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengkaji karakter morfologi teritip spons Indonesia dan untuk mengkaji hubungan spesies spesifik teritip terhadap spons. Pengambilan sampel pada penelitian ini dilaksanakan sejak Oktober sampai Desember 2012 di tiga lokasi yaitu Pulau Weh, Kepulauan Seribu, dan Kepulauan Karimunjawa. Metode penelitian menggunakan metode survei dan titik pengambilan sampel dipilih berdasarkan keberadaan spons. Sampel diamati menggunakan mikroskop stereo dan mikroskop elektron kemudian diidentifikasi berdasarkan deskripsi Darwin (1854), Pilsbry (1916), Martin dan Davis (2001), dan Kolbasov (1993). Hasil penelitian didapatkan empat spesies teritip spons yaitu Acasta cyathus, A. fenestrata, Euacasta dofleini, dan Membranobalanus longirostrum. Terdapat hubungan spesies spesifik antara teritip dan spons inang yaitu antara teritip E. dofleini dan spons Haliclona sp. dan antara teritip M. longirostrum dan spons Suberites sp. Abstract

Hutan bakau di bagian tenggara Pulau Kelong memiliki cadangan karbon yang banyak dalam tegakan dan sedimen yang mengindikasikan produktivitas primer kawasan yang tinggi. Dekomposisi serasah daun, sebagai bagian dari produktivitas kawasan, menghasilkan unsur hara esensial sederhana yang dimanfaatkan untuk menopang pertumbuhan bakau. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui laju dekomposisi serasah daun di setiap zona penelitian, yaitu zona darat (Landward, L), tengah (Middle zone, M), dan dekat laut (Seaward, S) yang dibedakan berdasarkan kelimpahan jenis tumbuhan dan parameter in situ. Penelitian dilaksanakan pada bulan Maret–Mei 2015 di kawasan bakau Pulau Kelong, Kabupaten Bintan. Proses dekomposisi diamati pada enam interval waktu, yaitu 2, 4, 7, 14, 28, dan 42 hari dengan menggunakan kantong jaring yang berisi 10 g daun basah yang diletakkan di permukaan substrat. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa L merupakan zona dengan persentase dekomposisi tertinggi (56,34 ± 20,58%) dibandingkan dengan M dan S yang berturut-turut sebesar 51,59 ± 15,46% dan 51,09 ± 8,70%. Laju dekomposisi serasah paling tinggi di zona L yaitu 1,40 ± 0,82 g·m-2.hari-1 yang berbeda nyata dari zona M dan S, berturut-turut sebesar 0,83 ± 0,89 g·m-2.hari-1 dan 0,78 ± 0,70 g·m-2.hari-1.  Analisis koefisien laju dekomposisi (k) menunjukkan bahwa laju dekomposisi di dalam kawasan tergolong tinggi (k > 0,01). Abstract

 Metabolite profiles and antioxidant activity of Caulerpa racemosa extract with different handlings were investigated. Three different handlings during transportation were applied, namely samples chilled with ice, stored in liquid nitrogen and soaked in seawater. The different handling significantly affected the yield of ethanolic crude extracts and inorganic fractions but insignificantly to organic fractions. Different handlings resulted in differences of major fractions of C. racemosa extracts. Major fractions of the sample that was handled with chilling temperature contained low polar fractions (K10, K11, K12, and K13), while seawater handling extract contained very polar (K1, K2 and K3), polar (K6, K7, and K8) and low polar (K13) fractions. The extract of the sample handled in liquid nitrogen contained balanced fractions. Chilling temperature handling produced highest antioxidant activity (IC50 below 2,000 ppm) in ethanolic extract of C. racemosa. Abstract

Abstract. Yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacores) is a large, pelagic, and migratory species of tuna that inhabits Moluccas Sea in Indonesia, and most sea environment worldwide. However, high fishing activities tend to happen in the Indonesia region and catch product appear to be decreasing. A better understanding of yellowfin tuna genetic diversity is required to plan better conservation strategy of tuna. The study was conducted to infer the genetic diversity of yellowfin tuna (T. albacores) in the Moluccas Sea. A total of 41 tissue samples of yellowfin tuna were collected from two regions in the Moluccas Sea (North Moluccas and Ambon) during an expedition in February 2013. The results showed that genetic diversity and nucleotide diversity of yellowfin tuna from North Moluccas population was 0.984 and 0.021, respectively; while in Ambon population, the genetic and nucleotide diversities were 1.00 and 0.018, respectively. The high genetic diversity (0.990) and nucleotide diversity (0.020) between two populations were observed. Based on phylogenetic analysis, no genetic differentiation between the two populations in Moluccas Sea was revealed .Keywords :  Population genetics; Haplotype diversity; Coral Triangle; Phylogenetics; Polymerase Chain Reactions (PCRs) Abstrak. Tuna sirip kuning (Thunnus albacores) adalah ikan komersial penting dan ditemukan di Laut Maluku, Indonesia. Tetapi, aktivitas penangkapan ikan tuna sirip kuning dapat menurunkan kualitas dan kuantitas stok ikan, sehingga perlu adanya pengkajian keragaman genetik ikan tuna sirip kuning. Pemahaman yang baik tentang keragaman genetika dibutuhkan untuk merencanakan strategi konservasi tuna yang lebih baik. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui keragaman genetik  ikan tuna sirip kuning dari dua populasi di Laut Maluku. Sebanyak 41 sampel jaringan dari tuna sirip kuning dikumpulkan dari dua populasi di Laut Maluku (Maluku Utara dan Ambon) selama ekspedisi pada bulan Februari 2013. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa keragaman genetik populasi tuna sirip kuning pada perairan Maluku Utara dan Ambon masing-masing sebesar 0,984 dan 1,00 sedangkan nilai keragaman nukleotida masing-masing bernilai 0,021 dan 0,018. Nilai keragaman genetik dan keragaman nukloetida yang tinggi didaptkan antar kedua populasi masing-masing sebesar 0,990 dan 0,020. Berdasarkan analisis filogenetik, dua populasi di Laut Maluku ini memiliki kedekatan secara genetik.Kata kunci : Genetika populasi; Keragaman haplotipe; Segitiga Terumbu Karang; Filogenetika; Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR)
