Abstract

This research is a design research that aims to design a hypothetical learning trajectory based on investigative learning. This study’s subjects were students of class VII in a junior high school in Aceh Barat Daya, consisting of 32 students for the pilot experiment and 31 students for the teaching experiment. The selection of research subjects for these two classes used a random sampling technique. The data collection technique were carried out by observation, interview, and documentation. The research data were analyzed using qualitative analysis. This design research model consists of three stages: preparing for the experiment, experimental design, and retrospective analysis. The results showed that the hypothetical learning trajectory based on group investigative learning that has been designed can help students achieve learning goals. The learning trajectories produced in this study are (1) students can find the size of the object on the two sketchs by measuring and making comparisons of the two sketchs object values (the same amount); (2) students can find the form of the ratio from the size of the two sketchs and students can draw the conclusion that from the ratio value can be obtained the scale value; (3) students can determine the ratio of two different quantities of the investigative activity carried out and can write a form of direct proportion; and (4) students can distinguish the form of direct proportion and inverse proportion problems

Abstract

This research is a development research which aims to develop a valid, practical and effective animated learning video. The subjects involved were 34 students consisting of 12 male and 22 female students from one of the state junior high schools in Yogyakarta. Data collection were carried out with a questionnaire assessment of the practicality of the media by teachers and students, as well as a spatial ability test consisting of 12 multiple choice questions to test each component of spatial ability, namely spatial visualization, spatial orientation, and spatial relations. The results showed that the assessment obtained from material experts and media experts stated that the developed media met valid criteria, while the assessment results given by teachers and students stated that the media met practical criteria. The media was also effective when viewed from spatial ability because 75.9% of students achieved mastery level scores. Spatial ability is very important for students as reported by many studies stating that spatial ability influences a person's success in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and related to students’ mathematics achievement

Abstract

Abstract

This research aimed to describe student difficulties in mathematics learning in terms of student mathematical connection ability on Pythagoras theorem. This research was a qualitative descriptive research with case study design. The research subjects were 18 the IX grade students, then reduced to 5 students and purposive sampling technique was used in this research. Triangulation data such as mathematical connection ability and difficulties of mathematic learning tests and interview were used for collecting the data.  The data were analyzed by Miles and Hubermen techniques including three stages: reduction, presentation, and conclusion/verification. The findings of this research showed that, each respondent has different difficulties at each mathematical connection ability level; (1) The subject (very high) mathematical connection ability level did not have problem with all indicators of difficulties in mathematics learning; (2) The subject (high) mathematical connection ability level had associations or visual-motor combination; (3) The subject (medium) mathematical connection ability level had associations or visual-motor combination and difficulties in recognizing and using symbols; (4) The subject (low) mathematical connection ability level had little spatial disruption, association or visual-motor combination, and little difficulties in recognizing and using symbols; (5) The subject (very low) mathematical connection ability level had spatial disruption, association or visual-motor combination, and difficulties in recognizing and using symbols
