Abstract

Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui dan menganalisis pengaruh optimalisasi asesmen diri terhadap kemampuan menulis Bahasa Inggris dan minat siswa. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada siswa kelas V di gugus II Kecamatan Gianyar dengan menggunakan metode eksperimen semu dan desain faktorial 2 x 2. Instrument penelitian berupa tes kemampuan menulis Bahasa Inggris dan kuesioner minat siswa. Analisis data  menggunakan analisis varians dua jalur. Berdasarkan analisis data, hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa : (1) terdapat perbedaan kemampuan menulis Bahasa Inggris antara siswa yang mengikuti pembelajaran dengan penerapan  asesmen diri dan konvensional (FA = 6,950, p < 0,05),  (2) terdapat perbedaan kemampuan menulis Bahasa Inggris antara siswa yang mengikuti pembelajaran dengan penerapan asesmen diri dan kovensional pada kelompok siswa dengan minat tinggi (Q = 10,951, P < 0,05),  (3) terdapat perbedaan kemampuan menulis Bahasa Inggris antara siswa yang mengikuti pembelajaran dengan penerapan asesmen diri  dan konvensional,   (4) terdapat pengaruh interaksi antara penerapan jenis asesmen dengan minat siswa terhadap kemampuan menulis Bahasa Inggris. Berdasarkan temuan tersebut, dapat disimpulkan bahwa penerapan  asesmen diri dan minat siswa berpengaruh terhadap kemampuan menulis Bahasa Inggris pada para siswa kelas V SD Gugus II Kecamatan Gianyar.   Kata kunci : Optimalisasi Asesmen Diri, Kemampuan Menulis Bahasa Inggris, Minat Siswa.   Abstract   The aim of this research is to know and to analyze the effect of optimalization self assessment and students enthusiasm on the students writing English achievement. This research has been done on grade V elementary school cluster II Gianyar district by using queasy experiment with 2 x 2 factorial design. The research  instrument is a test of writing English achievement and questionnaire of achievement enthusiasm.. The analyzed data used ANAVA AB. Based on data analyzed, the results  of the research showed that : (1) there was a difference on writing English achievement between the students who touch by self  assessment and conventional (FA = 6,950, p < 0,05),  (2) there was a difference on writing English achievement between the students  who touch by self  assessment and conventional  to the groups of students who had high achievement enthusiasm. (Q = 10,951, P < 0,05), (3) there was a difference on writing English achievement between the students who touch  by self assessment and conventional to the groups of students who had low achievement enthusiasm. (Q = 5,291, p < 0,05),  (4) There was  an interaction between self  assessment and achievement enthusiasm to the writing English achievement (FAB = 69, 134, p < 0,05). Based on the description  above, we can make a conclusion that self  assessment  and students enthusiasm will give an influence to the writing English achievement on the grade V of elementary school students cluster II Gianyar district.   Keywords : self-assessment optimalization,   Writing English Ability, Student Enthusiasm

Abstract

ABSTRACT This study aimed at describing the English literacy coverage of grade 5 students of Primary Schools in Bali, developing materials to support grade 5 students’ English literacy skills, and investigating the quality and the effectiveness of the developed materials in supporting grade 5 students’ English literacy skills. The subjects of this study were the grade 5 students of  Public Primary Schools in Bali. The data were gathered through documentation, expert judgment, observation, syllabus analysis, conducting test and questionnaires. Based on the competency standard and the basic competence in the syllabus, the English Literacy coverage were about understanding and copying some simple texts and sentences. The materials that need to be developed were based on the topics in the syllabus used by the schools. The developed materials were classified into 4 topics: Animals, Food and Drink, Classroom Objects, and Public Places. The materials designed were emphasized on the practices of English literacy skills which consisted of Topical Vocabulary, Grammar Focus, Everyday Expression, Language Games and Time for Story.  The quality measurement showed Sr<4.485=3.6<4.485, means that the materials were categorized as good materials. The effectiveness of measurement showed that the materials of Rich Language Learning Environment are effective to support the grade 5 students’ English Literacy Skills.   Keywords: TEYL, Literacy Skills, Rich Language Learning Environment

Abstract

Abstract This study aimed at analyzing and investigating the authenticity of teacher’s made assessment and its contribution to students’ English achievement in Elementary schools in Buleleng regency. The authenticity of teachers’ made assessment was seen in terms of teachers’ assessment planning, assessment implementation as perceived by teachers, teachers’ assessment implementation as perceived by students. This study was also intended in order to know the contribution of those aspects to students’ English achievement. The research design for this study was Exploratory Mix-Method design, involving 33 English teachers. The data were collected through documentation, and questionnaires which were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. The result of data analysis showed that teachers’ assessment planning, assessment implementation as perceived by teachers and students had sufficient level of authenticity. From statistical analysis, it was found that only teachers’ assessment planning and assessment implementation as perceived by students which had significant contribution to students’ English achievement. However, it was also found that the three aspects were integratedly gave significant contribution to students’ English achievement. In conclusion, it showed how the teachers’ assessments with its level of authenticity gave contribution to the students’ English achievement.   Keywords: teachers’ assessment authenticity, students’ achievement

Abstract

Abstract The present study aims at analyzing the authenticity of teacher made assessment in State Senior High Schools in Buleleng Regency in terms of assessment planning, assessment implementation as perceived by teachers and students and the students’ English achievement. It also investigates assessment contribution to students’ English achievement. The mixed method design research took 32 English teachers and 32 classes of students as the sample. The data were gained by collecting assessment documents, administering questionnaires and interview. The study found that the assessment have high authenticity level of planning, high authenticity level of implementation as perceived by teachers and high authenticity level of level implementation as perceived by students. The students’ achievement after being assessed by using their teacher made assessment is considered high. The study also confirmed that there is a significant contribution of the authenticity of teacher made assessment to students’ English achievement. More specifically, assessment implementation as perceived by students gives the highest contribution. Keywords: authenticity, teacher made assessment, English achievement

Abstract

Abstract The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of think pair share teaching strategy to students’ self-confidence and students’ speaking competency. This study was conducted towards students of the second grade in SMPN 6 Singaraja, in the academic year 2012/2013. There were 121 students selected as sample put in experimental and control group. The study used a post-test only control group design. The analysis was made by using Manova facilitated by SPSS version 16.0 for windows. The result indicated that (1) there was a significance effect of Think Pair Share on students’ self-confidence (F = 754.104 and sig = 0.000; p < 0.05). (2) there was a significance effect of Think Pair Share on students’ speaking competency (F = 60.325 and sig = 0.000; p < 0.05). (3) simultaneously, there was significance effect of Think Pair Share on students’ self-confidence and students’ speaking competency (<0.05).

Abstract

Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui pengaruh buku bergambar tanpa kata terhadap prestasi menulis bahasa Inggris ditinjau dari tingkat percaya diri siswa kelas X SMAN 1 Selong. Penelitian eksperimen ini menggunakan posttest only control group design. Penelitian ini menggunakan teknik random sampling yang berjumlah 88 orang siswa yang terbagi kedalam kelompok eksperimen dan kontrol. Data penelitian dikumpulkan melalui kuesioner dan tes. Data dianalisis menggunakan ANAVA dua jalur. Hasil penelitian mengungkapkan bahwa (1) terdapat perbedaan signifikan prestasi menulis bahasa Inggris siswa yang mengikuti pembelajaran buku bergambar tanpa kata dan siswa yang mengikuti pembelajaran konvensional (FA=34,614, p<0,05), (2) terdapat interaksi signifikan antara pembelajaran (buku bergambar tanpa kata dan pembelajaran konvensional) dengan tingkat percaya diri terhadap prestasi menulis siswa (FAB =31,140, p<0,05), (3) untuk siswa yang memiliki percaya diri tinggi, terdapat perbedaan signifikan prestasi menulis siswa yang mengikuti pembelajaran menggunakan buku bergambar tanpa kata dan siswa yang mengikuti pembelajaran menggunakan pembelajaran konvensional (Qhitung = 11,46, p<0,05), (4) untuk siswa yang memiliki percaya diri rendah, tidak terdapat perbedaan signifikan prestasi menulis siswa yang mengikuti pembelajaran menggunakan buku bergambar tanpa kata dan siswa yang mengikuti pembelajaran menggunakan pembelajaran konvensional (Qhitung = 0,303, p > 0,05).   Kata kunci: Buku bergambar tanpa kata, Percaya Diri, Kemampuan Menulis Bahasa Inggris Abstract This study aimed at knowing the effect of wordless picture books on the English writing of the students differing in self-confidence at the tenth grade of SMAN 1 Selong. Abstract

Abstract This study aimed at finding out the effect of cooperative learning model upon   reading comprehension of eleven grade students of sma negeri 1 selong differing in reading interest. This study was experimental research used post-test only control group design. This study used random sampling technique involved 84 students who were divided into experimental and control group. Data were collected using questionnaire and test. The data were analyzed two- ways ANOVA and Tukey Test. The result of this research was (1) there was a significant difference between the achievement  of the students  who were taught by cooperative learning model and those who were taught  by using conventional learning model (FA=41,061, p<0,05). (2) There was an interaction between teaching using cooperative learning and conventional model with students’ reading interest upon reading comprehension (FAB=0.946 p<0,05). (3)  for the students with high reading interest, there was a significant difference on the reading comprehension between by using cooperative learning model and conventional learning model (Qhitung=4,119, p<0,05). (4) for the students with low reading interest, there was a significant difference on the reading comprehension between by using cooperative learning model and conventional learning model (Qhitung=2,174, p<0,05).   Keywords : cooperative learning model, reading comprehension, reading interest

Abstract

This research aimed at (1) describing authentic assessment preparation according to Curriculum 2013 by grade seven teachers in SMP Negeri 4 Singaraja, (2) describing authentic assessment implementation according to Curriculum 2013 (3) describing obstacles experienced by teachers in implementing authentic assessment according to Curriculum 2013 This research is descriptive qualitative study. The data were gaining by study documents, observations, and interview. The result shows that (1) the conformity of authentic assessment preparation based on Curriculum 2013 by the teachers in is 53.97% which category is sufficient. (2) Conformity of authentic assessment implementations by the teachers is 44.4% which category is sufficient. (3) Obstacles experienced by teachers are in terms of students’ number and lack of time in the authentic assessments implementation. In conclusion, authentic assessments implementation already measured the competence of knowledge, attitudes and skills of the students according to Curriculum 2013.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate the significant relationship between parental involvement and students’ English achievement of 8th grade students in SMP Negeri 1 Singaraja. The design of this study is simple correlation involving 58 students and their parents as the sample. The material of the questionnaire was adopted from Shute et al. (2011) and was used to collect the data of the home – based parental involvement, while the data of the English achievement was collected from school principal. Pearson Product Moment Correlation was used to investigate the correlation between parental involvement and students’ English achievement. The result shows that parental involvement and students’ English achievement have a positive and significant correlation, with the Pearson Correlation value = 0.440 > 0.05.

Abstract

This present study was aimed at investigating the levels of students’ speaking anxiety and the most dominant factor influencing students’ speaking anxiety. This study was a cross sectional survey with quantitative method. The population of this study was the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 4 Singaraja in academic year 2017/2018. Simple random sampling was used as the sampling technique. The total number of the sample was 110 students who were chosen randomly from 11 classes. The data was gathered by using questionnaire. Then, it was analyzed by finding out the percentage of the students’ speaking anxiety level and mean score for the most dominant factor influencing students’ speaking anxiety. The result of this study showed that most of the students were in mildly anxious level with the percentage 51%. It followed by 24% students felt anxious and 24% of them felt relaxed. Additionaly, 1% student was categorised as very anxious level and only 1% of was in very relaxed level. Finally, in this present study, it was found that cognitive factor was the most dominant factor influencing students speaking anxiety.
