Abstract

Students’ misconceptions still become major focus of educational research in recent years. Information on students’ conceptual understanding and students’ misconceptions is necessary so that the teachers can detect misconception experienced by students. This study evaluated students’ conceptual understanding and misconceptions about Fungi using four tier diagnostic tests. Results showed that students' understanding was considered as poor. Misconceptions rates were also high with misconceptions about characteristics, reproduction, growth factor, classification, and Fungi role in life as misconceptions commonly found in the students.

Population in this research is all students from 5 class in XI grade MIPA of SMA Negeri 8 Surakarta. Samples of this research was taken by cluster purposive sampling technique with XI MIPA 4 as the control class and  XI MIPA 5 as the experiment class, with total participants in this research are 52 students. The experimental class uses Guided Inquiry model, meanwhile the control class uses conventional learning. Techniques of collecting data is using test, documentation, and observation. The research hypothesis test is using independent sample t-test assisted by SPSS 19 program with level of significance 0,05.  The results showed that cognitive domain has p-value 0,00 <sig. 0,004 and t-value 3,042> 1,673 t table; p-value affective domain 0,048 <sig. 0,05 and  t-value 2,023 > 1,673 t table; p-value psychomotor domain 0,00 <sig. 0,05 and t value 3,617 > 1,673 t table. Class who were learning through Guided Inquiry model, showed average value of learning outcomes is higher, compared to class who were learning through conventional model. The conclusion of this research is there is effect Guided Inquiry model towards Biology learning outcomes.

The independent variable in this research is the application of cooperative learning, the Student Team Achievement Divisions (STAD) whereas the dependent variable is students’ achievement in learning biology at 3 levels’, namely: cognitive, affective, and psychomotor. The population of the study is the entire class  VII  at SMP N 21 Surakarta in academic year 2012/2013. The samples are taken towards control and treatment group. The sample is taken by using Purposive Sampling method. The data are collected by using test (for cognitive achievement) whereas for the affective and psychomotor aspects the data are taken by using observation methods. The obtained data are analyzed by using t-test.The result shows that the implementation of Student Team Achievement Divisions (STAD) with LKS has taken good effect towards students’ achievement in affective and psychomotor aspects, but has not on the cognitive achievement students in class  VII  at SMP N 21 Surakarta. Keywords: Cooperative Learning, Student Team Achievement Divisions (STAD), Learning Achievement, LKS.

The research aims to apply the guided inquiry model to improve questioning activity in the learning material “Animalia” in class X Science 6 of SMA Negeri 1 Karanganyar in 2015/2016 academic year. The research was a classroom action research which was done in three cycles covering planning, action, observation, and reflection stage. The learning model applied was guided inquiry model including six stages, they are: observe, formulate inquiry question, develop hypothesis, design and conduct investigation, analyze data, and arguing. Subject of the research was 40 students of X Science 6 of SMA Negeri 1 Karanganyar in 2015/2016 academic year. The data of the research was gained by doing observation, interview, and documentation. The writer analyzed the data using descriptive qualitative analyzing technique. The result shows that applying guided inquiry model improve the score of questioning activity in the learning material “Animalia” of X Science 6 students of SMA Negeri 1 Karanganyar in 2015/2016 academic year. The improvement of students’ questioning activity is showed from the improving score of students’ questioning activity score to teacher, to students, and in wrtitten from pre cycle stage until cycle 3. The score of questioning activity from students to teacher improves from 7,5% or 3 students in pre cycle to 40% or 16 students in cycle 1, 50% or 20 students in cycle 2 and 55% or 22 student in cycle 3. The score of questioning activity from students to student improves from 0% or 0 students in pre cycle to 80% or 32 students in cycle 1, 95% or 38 students in cycle 2 and cycle 3.The score of questioning activity from students in written improves from 0% or 0 students in pre cycle to 37,5% or 15 students in cycle 1, 45% or 18 students in cycle 2 and 52,5% or 21 student in cycle 3. Data improvement of each aspect of students’ questioning activity from pre cycle until cycle 3 has reached the research target (≥50%). Based on the result, it can be concluded that guided inquiry model improves questioning activity in learning material “Animalia” of class X Science 6 of SMA Negeri 1 Karanganyar in 2015/2016 academic year. Keywords: questioning activity, guided inquiry
