Abstract

This community service activity aims to increase the ability of fishermen and apply appropriate technology to cultivate Vannamei shrimp in a sustainable manner so that it will improve the welfare of fishermen's families. To achieve the objectives, several stages of activities are carried out, the first stage of the survey is to find out how the fish cultivator fishermen groups carry out their activities. The second stage is the socialization of activities that will be carried out to increase the ability to grow shrimp so that the results in a long time can increase the income (economy) of the fishermen. The third stage is to carry out coaching and counseling related to shrimp farming and can make decisions in the next economic field. This service program is carried out within 6 months. Program targets and outcomes (1). Increased knowledge and skills on appropriate technology in conducting Vannamei shrimp cultivation (2). Increased Vannamei shrimp yields by conducting shrimp culture training using tarpaulins. (3). In the long run, the results of aquaculture increase the economic welfare of the fishermen's family.

Abstract

The Community Service Program (PPM) aims to improve the knowledge and skills of coastal communities through water filter science and technology by using media consisting of quartz sand, 1-3 cm diameter gravel, activated charcoal and alum. Long-term goals can improve the quality of life and avoid people from waterborne diseases so that the degree of public health improves. This community service was carried out in Kampung Khaidir Lingkungan 6 Kelurahan Nelayana Indah, Medan Labuhan District, Medan City. In order to achieve these objectives several stages of activities are carried out. First is the initial survey activity to find out the location for the drilling of the well that will be used by the local community. The second stage is to build a Bor well unit. The third stage socializes the use of Bor wells access to clean water and changes people's behavior so they behave in a clean and healthy life. This community service program is carried out within 6 months. The targets and outcomes of this program are: (1). Access to Bor wells Clean Water. The community masters the science and technology of making Bor wells to be a source of water that meets health requirements as well as meeting the need for clean water for 22 Fishermen Families in Kampung khaidir Neighborhood 6 Kelurahan Indah Fishermen District Medan Labuha District. (2). The Clean and Healthy Life Behavior of the community increases based on the posttest and observation of the living environment. (3). The decreasing prevalence of diseases transmitted through water media such as diarrhea, skin diseases so that the degree of public health increases and community productivity also increases.

Abstract

Background: Medical waste is unwanted bio­lo­gical products that are highly infectious in na­ture. It is broadly classified as infectious waste and bio­hazardous waste, and can easily spread any disease virally and can even pose a danger to life. Me­dical waste is found in hospitals, labo­ratories, re­search centres, tattoo parlours, and others. It has to be disposed properly otherwise it poses a health and environmental danger. This study aimed to examine the effects of motivation and supervision on adherence to medical waste policy in South Labuhanbatu, North Sumatera.Subjects and Method: This was a cross-sec­ti­onal study carried out in South Labuhanbatu, Nor­th Sumatera. A sample of 34 health care wor­kers were selected for this study, consisting of health center doctors, private doctors, and health clinic owner. The dependent variable was adhe­ren­ce to medical waste policy. The independent vari­ables were motivation and supervision. The data were collected by questionnaire and analyz­ed by multiple logistic regression.Results: Adherence to medical waste policy was affect­ed by strong motivation (OR= 6.31; 95%CI= 2.74 to 9.33; p= 0.048) and regular supervision (OR= 5.56; 95%CI= 3.42 to 8.09; p= 0.039).Conclusion: Adherence to medical waste policy is affected by motivation and supervision.Keywords: waste policy, adherence, motivation, supervision.Correspondence: Syahrul An. Abstract

Sick Building Syndrome (SBS) was a healthproblem that caused by air polution, indoor air quality and a bad ventilation. In around the world,2.7 milions of people were dead because air polution in the room and this air polution source from ventilation (52%), tools in the room (17 %), outside the room (11%), the building material (3%), microorganism (5%) and others (12%). Mall was a public place with a close ventilation so it can influence the air quality and being the risk of SBS.The aim of this research was looking for correlation between air quality in the room and the characteristics of workerswith sick building syndrome (SBS).This research was an analytic with cross sectional design. The population was all of the workerwith 36 sample workers.Data analysis used univariat and bivariat.Result of this research showed the variabelswhich had correlationwith sick building syndrome are humidity, wind velocity, light intensity, age, and gender. The variables that had no correlation with sick building syndrome are temperature, microorganism quantity, duration of work and period of work.

Abstract

Analysis of lead containing in the dug wells’ water of communities around of the solid waste dumping of lead insdustry from battery recycling. Dug wells were the most common means used by the people as a major source of clean water. The groundwater quality degradation is characterized by the presence of some pollutants such as lead that can be derived from leaching of hazardous materials, such as ex-storage batteries and ex-inner batteries. The design was descriptive research. It described that the dug well’s construction, lead containing in the water of dug well and the condition of solid waste dumping of lead industry from battery recycling. The samples of dug wells water were taken from 5 spots distance from waste dumping location, they were 25 metres, 50 metres, 100 metres, 150 metres, and 200 metres. Each spots was choosen 2 dug wells so that totals samples are 10. This research had done in Sei Rotan Village Percut Sei Tuan District Deli Serdang Regency 2012. The result of the research showed that none were met with health requirements. The results of the laboratory examination found the all of dug well water samples that lead containing exceed the quality standards established by the Decree of Permenkes No. 416 / Minister / Per / IX / 1990 figure of 0.05 mg / L. It is recommended that, the participation of community and role of government was needed to improve public knowledge about the pollution of lead industry from battery recycling and the physical construction of dug well through training, extension and renovation of the water supply facilities in order to obtain clean water that meets health requirements. Abstract

Correlation between the density of flies (Musca domestica) with the incidence of diarrhea in children under five years in the settlements around the Disposal Area of Garbage Namo Bintang Kecamatan Pancur Batu Kabupaten Deli Serdang in 2012. Diarrhea is a disease indicated by the increase in number of defecation  more than usually (three or  more a day)  for less than 14 days associated with the changes in shape and consistency of feces of the patients. The present study intented to know the correlation between  the density rate of flies and the incidence of diarrhea around the Disposal Area of Garbage. The design of the study was an analytic  descriptive using cross-sectional  design  with 60 samples of household with infants. The data were collected by measuring the density rate of flies, interview, and observation. The data were analyzed by using univariate statistic test and then followed by bivariate test by using chi-square (X2). The result of the study showed that there was a  significant correlation between the density of flies and  the  incidence of diarrhea in infants. It could be indicated by the sig-p (0.0001) ≤ 0.05. The other factors that had significant  correlation to the incidence of diarrhea included attitude of the mothers in washing their hands p=0.0001 ((p≤0.05),  their attitude in closing the food p=0.0001 (p≤0.05), using the clean water p=0.0001 (p≤0.05), and using the  drinking water p=0.0001 (p≤0.05). The conclusion of the study was that there was a   correlation between the density of flies and  the  incidence of diarrhea in infants. Therefore, it was suggested to the mothers of infant to install the screen on the window and  ventilation,  improving the  sanitation  around  the Disposal Area of Garbage.   Key words: Density of flies, Diarrhea, Garbage

Abstract

The solid and liquid waste treatment system and analysis of liquid waste effluent quality on plywood glue factory in Langsa city in 2012. The chemical waste that pollutes the environment is a serious problem and supplied by industrial activities such as plywood factory. Basically the waste treatment is not a difficult activities but the waste treatment requires the application of accurate waste treatment method. This research aims to study the solid and liquid waste treatment system and analysis of liquid waste effluent quality on plywood glue factory in Langsa city in 2012. This research is adescriptive survey study by using observation sheet on solid and liquid waste treatment in plywood factory and the inspection of liquid waste sampel in effluent point and waste water treatment plant influent and the recycled liquid waste. The results of observation indicates that the solid waste treatment system in plywood factory use the incineration method, reuse of urea bag. The liquid waste treatment in plywood factory uses the sendimentation and aeratoin process. The result of laboratory analysis of liquid waste effluent is : COD 51,2 ppm, Temp 27ºC, Amonia (NH3) 0,1 ppm, TSS 3,7 ppm, Phenol 0 ppm, BOD5 25,5 ppm and pH 6,9. The conclusion of this research is solid waste treatment systems on plywood glue factory yet qualified, while the liquid waste treatment system has met the terms and parameters have been standardized. The plywood glue factory recommended to make corrections to the solid waste treatment systems, but it is also immediate burning the sludge of solid waste by using incinerators. Abstract

Processing Sanitation Hygiene And Laboratory Analysis E.coli  in Nutrient Installation Of General Hospital H.Adam Malik. Food processing sanitation hygiene is intended to make better health life and to avoid disease. The application of the principle of food processing sanitation hygiene was carried out before food production, during manufacturing process, storage, transportation up to serving the food. The objective of this research was to know the description of sanitation hygiene and the contents of Escherichia coli in cooked food and the appliances of stainless steel plates in nutrient installation of general hospital H. Adam Malik. The method used was descriptive by observing the description of sanitation hygiene and laboratory analysis to the content of E.coli in cooked food product and stainless steel plate. The data was obtained with interview and observation. The result of research showed that nutrient installation of general hospital H. Adam Malik in sanitation hygiene fulfilled health requirements in accordance with Decision of Health Ministry RI No.1098/Menkes/SK/VII/2003 with total score 783,5 (>700) even though some points did not fulfill health requirements as in manufacturing food, cooked food storage and laboratory analysis, which  from 6 samples of cooked food checked in the laboratory and 2 samples did not fulfill health requirements since it contained E.coli. Stainless steel eating plate appliances were still in safe limit accordance with Decision of Health Ministry RI No.1098/Menkes/SK/VII/2003. Based on the result of research, it is necessary to supersive and give counseling regarding nutrient installation in hospital H. Adam Malik about the importance of food sanitation hygiene and appliances tools in food processing to fulfill health requirements. Key words : Sanitation, Escherichia coli, Food, Appliances

Abstract

Management of food hygiene sanitation and behaviors foodhandlers in the school canteen of public and private high schools in the district of North Rantau Labuhan Batu in 2012. Canteen is one of the most important facility  school in terms of building a quality generation. Management of food hygiene sanitation behavior of food handlers in school is important in order to get a guaranteed food clean so that the students can live healthily and avoid health problems. The purpose  this research was determine the state the management of food hygiene sanitation and behaviors foodhandlers in the school canteen public and private high schools in the district of North Rantau Labuhan Batu. The research was a descriptive survey in order to get an description the state of the management of food hygiene sanitation in the school canteen and to description the behavior of foodhandlers in the management of canteen food. The results showed that the variables of location and physical condition of buildings, as well as the 6 principles management of food hygiene sanitation have already qualified while sanitary facilities, kitchen, dining and food warehouse and foodhandlers are not eligible. For the behavior was found most food handlers in school canteen was knowledgeable, had good attitudes, and majority of the food handlers fell onto the good food handling category. The conclusion is that the physical condition of the site and buildings,equipment and food handlers, and six principles of hygiene and sanitation from the seven school already qualified, while sanitary facilities, kitchen not yet qualified. As for the behavior of food handlers, it was found that the handlers were knowledgeable, had good attitude, and took good actions. Based on these results it is expected that the school and canteen owners to further improve sanitation facilities that support the management of food hygiene sanitation, and improve the behavior of food handlers on food sanitation. Abstract

Laboratory Analysis to the Content of E. coli and Worm Larvae in Basil(Ocimum basilicum), Cabbage(Brassica oleracea L. var capitata L.), Lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.), Eggplants(Solanum melongena) in Traditional Market, Supermarket and Restaurant in Medan City 2012. Raw vegetables have potential contaminated by human feses with existence of Escherichia coli. Because of it necessary laboratory analisys to the content of bacteria E. coli and worm larvae in raw vegetables. The objective of this  research is to know the content of bakteri of E. coli and worm larvae in basil, cabbage, lettuce, and eggplants in traditional market, supermarket and restaurant in Medan  city 2012.The method used to survey with descriptive to know the content of bacteria of E. coli and worm larvae in basil, cabbage, lettuce, and eggplants in central market,  supermarket and restaurant. The results showed that its found the content of bakteri of E. coli in the   traditional market for cabbage, was found 6,2 MPN, supermarket 3 MPN and restaurant 3 MPN, in lettuce it was found in traditional market for 7,2 MPN, supermarket 3 MPN, and restaurant 3 MPN, and in eggplants in traditional market 3 MPN. Whereas, checking on worm larvae in traditional market for lettuce was found Ascaris lumbricoides and in supermarket was found the worm larvae of Trichuris trichiura. It is suggested for those who like to  consume raw vegetables should pay attention on the cleanliness of the dish. Key words: Dish of raw vegetables, Escherichia coli, worm larvae
