Abstract

The experiment was conducted from to May-June 2010. Research purposes were to determine the effect of noni extract to improve the storability of catfish (Pangasius hypopthalmus) smoked fish during storage. Noni extract concentration used 0 kg, 1 kg, 2 kg and 3 kg. While groups of storage 0 days, 7 days, 14 days, 21 days and 28 days. Parameters measured were an organoleptic score, peroxide value, analysis of water content and identification of fungi. The results, from the identification of fungi using the parameter of noni extract 3 kg can be maintained for 28 days, with high organoleptic value and the low moisture and peroxide values.

Abstract

Eeltail catfish (Paraplotosus albilabris) is a type of marine fish that has high nutritional content but is still rarely used further. In this study, we examined the proximate content and types of amino acids found in the flesh and skin of eeltail fish (Paraplotosus albilabris). The method used in this research is measurment of morphometric, proximate content and amino acids contained in flesh and skin of eeltail catfish The result of this study showed flesh contained 16.98% protein, 1.36% ash, 79.95% water, 1.12% fat, and 0.59% carbohydrates, respectively. On the skin, there was 33.49% protein, 1.41% ash, 64.26% water, 0.36% fat, and 0.48% carbohydrates. Meat had an essential amino acid yield of 84,222.14 mg/kg (52.97%) and skin had 76,429 mg/kg (30.45%), The amount of non-essential amino acids was 74,795.7 mg/kg (47.03%), and the amount of skin was 174.669 mg/kg (69.57%).

Abstract

Carrageenan is a non-fish fishery product derived from the extraction of red seaweed (Rhodophyceae) Kappaphycus alvarezii. It is generally used in the field of cosmetics industry, textiles, food, pharmaceutical, stabilizer and gel formation. The objective of this study was to determine the physico-chemical properties of semi refined carrageenan (SRC) on red seaweed (Kappaphycus alvarezii). The research phase included the preparation of raw materials for Kappaphycus alvarezii and making SRC, then followed by physico-chemical analysis, yield, moisture content, ash content, acid insoluble ash content, gel strength, viscosity, melting point, and cumulative point. The Physico-chemical SRC observations were yields of 24.80%, the water content of 19.20%, ash content of 16.34%, insoluble ash content in acid 0.31, the strength of gel 376.46 g/cm2, viscosity 139.47 cP, melting point 55.700C, graduation point 380C.

Abstract

Green seaweed is one of the leading marine products from the Riau Islands Province. Types of green seaweed such as Caulerpa microphysa and Codium sp. have potential as functional and pharmaceutical food, but their utilization is not optimal in the Riau Islands region. This study aims to examine the proximate characteristics of seaweed types C. microphysa and Codium sp. The method used in this research is seaweed sampling in the coastal of Natuna and Tanjungpinang, which are the Riau Islands region with abundant green seaweed commodities. The next method is the proximate analysis of dried seaweed, which includes analysis of water content, ash, protein, fat, and carbohydrates and calculating the total energy and energy from fat. The results showed that the proximate content of C. microphysa and Codium sp. respectively for moisture content was 19.88 ± 0.14 and 11.29 ± 0.08%, the ash content was 30.74 ± 0.27 and 55.51 ± 0.41%, protein is 8.97 ± 0.08 and 6.84 ± 0.12%, total fat is 1.20 ± 0.01 and 1.09 ± 0.01%, carbohydrates are 39.22 ± 0.32 and 25.28 ± 0.37%, energy from fat is 10.76 ± 0.06 and 9.77 ± 0.06 Kcal / 100g, total energy is 203.49 ± 1.68 and 138.23 ± 2.02 Kcal / 100g. These results indicate that the type of seaweed C. microphysa is better than Codium sp. in chemical composition and total energy.

Abstract

Pangkil is a small island in Indonesia with huge fisheries production where the majority of citizens' livelihoods are fisherman. The decline of fisheries catch production has led to aquaculture activity increasing year by year. Environmental conditions are the most important consideration for marine aquaculture sites. The aims of the present study are to estimation of the carrying capacity in Pangkil island water for marine aquaculture. The study was carried out in January 2020 at 30 locations. To describe the environmental condition, 30 samples were collected to analyse the physical, chemical, and biological parameters. To estimate the carrying capacity, suitability index was applied. The result showed that 57.13% of environmental conditions have very suitable for marine aquaculture (sea cage) in Pangkil Island, while 42.87% is only quite appropriate. Based on the result, Pangkil Island water has high potential for marine aquaculture in the future.

Abstract

Seahorse already cultured by two societies, where the problem was the lack of knowledge, skill, difficulty in finding the materials and tolls, also the problem in managing the seahorse juveniles rearing. The simple protocol with the steps that can easily understand for the non-expert society knowledge and the accessible for materials and tolls that affordable was the solution.
