Abstract

Within the Indonesian higher education context, the tri dharma (three main academic activities) of lecturer activities are ensured to improve their performance. It is related to their intellectual ability, and competence. Both of these are important factors in supporting the quality of higher education. The study was conducted on 200 respondents by distributing questionnaires to the respondents. This paper finds that intellectual ability has a strong influence on the competence of lecturers, indirectly being able to produce a positive effect on their performance. However, it is not as strong as directly affecting their performance. This is realized, they have a logical, inspirational, creative and innovative thinking pattern in completing the tri dharma task. Such as education, producing scientific papers published in reputable national and international journals, publishing the results of community service, and contributing to other activities. In short, the stronger the professional competence, the higher the performance success achieved, because of the contribution of intellectual ability as an independent domain.

Abstract

Objective: The main objective of this study is to analyze the importance of intellectual abilities in increasing the role of competence and strengthening the performance of lecturers in the management study program at a private university in Surabaya. Design/Methods/Approach: The study utilizes 200 samples obtained by distributing questionnaires to respondents. The explanatory method makes it possible to measure confirmatory factor analysis and SEM analysis to test the model.  Finding: The results indicate that intellectual ability has a significant effect on lecturer competence and indirect positive effect on performance. However, the indirect effect is less strong than its direct effect on performance. These results indicate that they have a logical, inspirational, creative, and innovative mindset in carrying out the “tri dharma”, such as education, producing scientific papers published in reputable national and international journals, publishing the results of community service, and contributing to other activities. In short, the stronger the professional competence, the higher the successful performance achieved because of the contribution of intellectual ability as an independent domain of lecturers. Originality: This is the first comprehensive study conducted at the 18 private universities in Indonesia. Therefore, it will be valuable to better understand the intellectual abilities of lecturers and improve the relationship between their performance and competence. Practical/Policy implication (optional): The success of lecturers in “tri dharma” activities is an important policy for the academic community, that characterized by their success in producing high performance, not only for individual but also for the universities. In addition, the study concludes with a location model that can be used as an important tool by university leaders in conducting their national and international business because this model can also be applied in various sectors other than the higher education sector.

Abstract

Bisnis kerupuk ikan dan bonggolan yang diproduksi warga Desa Pengulu masih berjalan dengan baik meski dengan skala kecil. Bisnis Kerupuk Ikan dan Bonggolan adalah bentuk integritas suatu produk yang sama-sama memiliki nilai ekonomis, terutama untuk pemberdayaan kemandirian ekonomi keluarga. Namun, pemanfaatannya tidak mampu menghasilkan produk yang maksimal. Metode eksploratif yang dilakukan tim KKN-PPM telah membawa perubahan dan minat warga dalam mengikuti sosialisasi dan praktik dihadir sebanyak 62 peserta. Kegiatan dilakukan dari tanggal 3 Februari - 2 Maret 2020. Beberapa tahapan telah memperoleh informasi. Hasil capaian yang ditemukan bahwa peluang penjualan kerupuk ikan dan bonggolan yang sudah terdistribusi di pasaran Kota Gresik dan Surabaya Raya masih tinggi permintaannya karena daya beli konsumen meningkat, terutama pada saat memasuki bulan Ramadhan. Hal ini, direkomendasikan bahwa harapan ke depan, proses produksinya bisa dilakukan peningkatan pada kualitas produk dengan melalui diversifikasi produk, desain produk maupun kemasan produk untuk lebih kreatif dan inovatif baik melalui pengembangan strategi bersaing maupun memanfaatkan peluang dengan e-bisnis dan e-marketing atau digital marketing. Sehingga dapat menguatkan kemandirian masyarakat dan bisa meningkatkan pendapatan keluarga, sekaligus memajukan industri rumahan dalam rangka menunjang kebutuhan ekonomi rumah tangga.

Abstract

Kerajinan merupakan kegiatan yang berkaitan dengan barang yang dihasilkan melalui keterampilan tangan manusia. Karena kerajinan ini dapat menghasilkan hiasan atau barang seni yang dapat dipakai serta dapat mengahasilkan nilai jual yang tinggi. Membuat kerajian tidak hanya memerlukan barang yang baru tetapi dapat juga memanfaatkan barang-barang bekas seperti handuk bekas dan pita satin bekas. Tujuan dari pengabdian ini adalah memberikan wawasan terhadap masyarakat dalam memanfaatkan barang-barang bekas khususnya pita dan handuk yang sudah tidak dipakai untuk diolah menjadi barang yang bernilai. Metode pelaksanaan dalam pengabdian ini dilakukan dengan melalui sosialisasi, demo tentang pembuatan bunga dari pita satin bekas dan pembuatan vas dari handuk bekas. Kegiatan ini dilakukan Bersama-sama dengan Ibu-ibu PKK, pemuda dan pemudi karangtaruna serta masyarakat penggerak UKM desa Pengulu Kecamatan Sidayu, Kabupaten Gresik. Hasil dari pengabdian ini menunjukkan bahwa masyarakat merespon dan menerima kegiatan dalam pembuatan vas bunga dari handuk bekas dan bunga dari kain satin bekas. Bahkan hasil olahan barang bekas ini dapat dijadikan sebagai bisnis baru. Karena barang-barang olahan ini bisa menjadi sector UKM yang dapat meningkatkan perekonomian keluarga di Desa Pengulu. Namun, salah satu kendala yang ditemukan adalah kurangnya metode pemasaran yang dilakukan masyarakat Pengulu, mereka hanya menunggu dan mengirimnya pada satu tempat pengelola yakni KOBE (Koperasi Usaha Bersama) Sukses Sejahtera di Kecamatan Sidayu yang selama ini sudah dilakukan. Selain itu, kurangnya wawasan dan jaringan untuk penjualan ke berbagai tempat, alasannya masih minim ptoduk-produk yang dihasilkan. Oleh sebab itu perlu mendapat dukungan dari tim PPM untuk bekerjasama dalam sosialisasi dan pengembangan untuk lebih maju.

Abstract

Di Desa Pengulu, masih minimnya pengetahuan masyarakat tentang mengelola dan mengembangkan usaha sendiri. Akibatnya, masyarakat tidak mampu meningkatkan perekonomian keluarga sebagai sektor tambahan untuk kebutuhan pokok. Kesempatan ini dimanfaatkan tim PPM untuk mensosialisasikan kerajinan dengan memanfaatkan barang bekas. Kerajinan adalah kegiatan yang melibatkan penciptaan barang dengan menggunakan keterampilan tangan manusia. Keterampilan craftmanship dapat digunakan untuk membuat dekorasi atau barang seni yang selain memiliki nilai seni, juga memiliki nilai jual yang relatif tinggi. Tujuan dari pengabdian ini adalah mengedukasi masyarakat tentang cara menggunakan barang bekas yang sudah tidak terpakai lagi dan dapat disulap menjadi barang yang bernilai seni. Metode pelaksanaannya dilakukan melalui sosialisasi dan demonstrasi cara membuat bunga dan vas bunga. Kegiatan ini diikuti 64 peserta yang terdiri dari ibu-ibu rumah tangga, PKK, Krangtaruna, dan komunitas penggerak Usaha Mikro. Luaran dari pengabdian ini menunjukkan respon masyarakat terhadap kegiatan seperti pembuatan vas bunga dari handuk bekas dan bunga dari pita satin bekas. Keinginan masyarakat untuk melaksanakan dan mempraktekkan cara pembuatan awal hingga proses menjadi vas bunga. Hasil olahan barang bekas dari tangan masyarakat menjadi bahan perbincangan warga untuk dapat dimanfaatkan guna meningkatkan perekonomian keluarganya. Namun, warga menemukan bahwa kendala yang paling sulit adalah pembuatan bentuk/desain dan penggunaan metode pemasaran yang minim, serta kekhawatiran akan kegagalan usaha. Untuk itu diperlukan pendampingan tim KKN-PPM untuk bersinergi dalam sosialisasi dan pengembangan agar dapat maju. Hasil pengabdian ini menyarankan agar warga mencari kelemahannya dalam merencanakan dan menyusun strategi pemasaran dengan menjual barang bekas yang bernilai seni, sehingga dapat bermanfaat sebagai peningkatan perekonomian keluarga.

Abstract

This study aims to discuss the performance of lecturers, because the locus of control plays a role in improving their performance, and is supported by motivation and competence. With the explanatory method, 200 samples were obtained from distributing questionnaires and using SEM analysis. As a result, locus of control has an effect on motivation and competence and has a negative effect on lecturer performance. It is characterized by the absence of changes in behaviour and attitudes, they still expect fate, luck, and other support for closeness to the ruler, external support is stronger than internal locus of control. They prefer to wait for the actions of others, as long as they can meet their performance needs. Motivation and competence have a fairly good influence in supporting their performance improvement. This situation occurs because their belief, effort, ability, and independence in producing a successful performance are still weak compared to fate.

Abstract

Objective: The study aims to analyze the important role of motivation in improving the performance of company employees with the support of organizational commitment as a mediation. Design/Method/Approach: This study uses a causality model with an explanatory method. The sample size of 160 respondents was obtained by distributing questionnaires to employees of a service company in Indonesia. The explanatory method as a measurement of confirmatory factor analysis and SEM analysis to test the model and significance test. Findings: The results of this study prove that motivation has a positive and significant effect on employee performance. Motivation-mediated employee success can master intrinsic factors and strengthen the associated extrinsic motivation because high-performance results are supported by affective, continuance, and normative commitment. Employee commitment, as a bond of experience, values, and beliefs, indirectly affects employee performance because it is needed to achieve organizational goals. Originality: This paper lies in a comprehensive study that combines the variables of motivation, organizational commitment, and performance into a complete study model. The originality of this paper shows the role of The Role of Motivation, How It Affects Employee Performance, and Organizational Commitment. Implications for Practice/Policy: Employee success in meeting company goals is important because employee motivation for commitment can move actions toward high performance. Furthermore, our findings show that the strength of the relationship between motivation and commitment mediates in helping the company's needs and changing employee actions that are more profound in producing job performance for the company's goals.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate how of job satisfaction that mediates the intention to quit employees from the company that determined by organizational commitment. The study used the explanatory method, and the sample was based on a questionnaire distributed by 120 respondents with SEM analysis. The results of this study indicate that organizational commitment and job satisfaction have a positive and significant effect on intention to quit. The positive effect of organizational commitment shows that employees have a high desire to quit. Opportunities to leave the organization are getting stronger because company leaders are aware of their behavior. The positive effect of organizational commitment on job satisfaction has also increased. Actions taken by employees are more directed towards expectations because extrinsically job satisfaction has an important role for the work itself. It strengthens the emotions of employees to work better. Another finding, also states that organizational commitment mediated by job satisfaction also responds to the employee's desire to quit, this positively also places the work they are engaged in, and contributes practically because high job satisfaction generally results in high employee retention rates.
