Abstract

As we all know, the purpose of teaching students to read short tales is to help them understand the material and analyze the elements of the story, including the moral value, storyline, setting, and characters. The purpose of this study was to determine (1) what the students' initial conditions on reading short story texts were before to using the developed digital storytelling, and (2) how successful the developed digital storytelling utilized for teaching short story reading is. This digital tale was created as a result of the findings of this study, which were based on the results of questionnaires and interviews. It was discovered that the digital storytelling media should cover the needs of the students, which have some criteria such as after reading the short stories, hopefully they can increase their vocabulary, they like to read dramatic and romantic stories, the suitable medias in learning reading of short stories are online reading sources and video, types of digital storytelling are video words and digital storytelling video clips, digital storytelling should be easy to operate an After using digital storytelling to teach short story reading, the students demonstrated this progress. The production of materials improves students' grades and can increase their enthusiasm in reading short stories.

Abstract

Pelatihan ini merupakan salah satu pengabdian masyarakat yang bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan dan pengetahuan anak-anak Desa JaringHalus melalui pengenalan kosa-kosa Bahasa Inggris menggunakan media gambar. Berdasarkan observasi ditemukan bahwa kemampuan BahasaInggris anak-anak desa jaring halus masih rendah. Pelatihan ini dilakukan di Desa Jaring Halus, Kecamatan Secanggang, Kabupaten Langkat. Pelatihan ini terdiri dari delapan instrukur yang merupakan Dosen Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris STKIP Al Maksum Langkat dan Lima belas anak-anak Desa Jaring Halus. Pelatihan ini dilaksanakan pada tanggal 9 Maret 2020. Materi pelatihan terdiri dari beberapa jenis kosa kata Bahasa inggris. Hasil pelatihan menunjukkan bahwa sepuluh anak memiliki kemampuan rendah setelah mengikuti kegiatan pelatihan kosa-kata Bahasa inggris. Sementara itu, lima anak memiliki kemampuan menengah setelah mengikuti kegiatan Bahasa inggris. Dengan kata lain, pelatihan ini berhasil meningkatkan kemampuan lima anak dari rendah menuju menengah. Pelatihan ini diharapkan agar dilakukan secara berkelanjutan agar dapat meningkatkan kemampuan anak-anak Desa Jaring Halus, Kecamatan Secanggang, Kabupaten Langkat.

Abstract

Penguasaan bahasa inggris merupakan salah satu kemampuan yang harusdimiliki, khususnya anak-anak sekolah dasar agar dimasa depan dapatbersaing dengan bangsa lain. LPPBP adalah Lembaga Pendidikan yangberfokus kepada mendidik anak-anak di sekitar Desa Bagan Percut,Kabupaten Deli Serdang. Tujuan pengabdian masyarakat ini yaitu untukmeningkatkan penguasaan kosakata (vocabulary) bahasa inggris anak-anakLPPBP melalui media pembelajaran flashcards. Pengabdian masyarakatdilaksanakan di Desa Bagan Percut, Kecamatan Percut Sei Tuan, KabupatenDeli Serdang. Pengabdian masyarakat dilaksanakan pada tanggal 12Oktober 2020 dan diikuti oleh 20 anak-anak usia sekolah dasar yang belajarpada LPPBP Bagan Percut. Hasil pengabdian masyarakat menunjukkanbahwa anak-anak LPPBP aktif dan antusias dalam belajar bahasa inggris.Adapun hasil evaluasi pada pengabdian masyasakat ini adalah penambahandurasi waktu kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat, khususnya pengajaranbahasa inggris.

Abstract

Kemampuan penguasaan kosakata Bahasa Inggris merupakan salah satu kemampuan yang harus dikuasi oleh Siswa agar dapat berkomunikasi menggunakan Bahasa Inggris dengan akurat, lancar dan berterima. Tujuan kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini yaitu untuk meningkatkan perolehan kosakata Bahasa Inggris Siswa MTS Al Ikhlas. Pengabdian masyarakat ini dilaksanakan pada Kelas VII MTS Al Ikhlas Pangkalan Susu. Sebanyak limabelas siswa kelas VII mengikuti kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan pada tanggal 22 Maret 2021. Hasil kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat menunjukkan siswa aktif dan antusias dalam mengikuti kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat. Hasil evaluasi dari kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat yakni penambahan durasi dan waktu dan dilaksanakan secara berkelanjutan.

Abstract

Pendidikan karakter merupakan salah satu komponen penting dalam pendidikan dalam upaya menghasilkan generasi yang cerdas dan kreatif dalam pengetahuan dan kepribadian. Untuk menerapkan pendidikan karakter membutuhkan prinsip-prinsip penerapan yang jelas sehingga penerapan pendidikan karakter di sekolah menjadi sistematis dan efektif. Selain sekolah dan orang tua, guru memiliki peran penting dalam menerapkan nilai-nilai pendidikan karakter pada pembelajaran. Guru merupakan role model yang dalam rangka mencontohkan nilai-nilai pendidikan karakter dan dapat ditiru oleh siswanya. Pengabdian masyarakat ini dilaksanakan di SMK Swasta Al Maksum 2 Pulau Kampai, Kecamatan Pangkalan Susu, Kabupaten Langkat, Provinsi Sumatera Utara. Metode Pelaksanaan pengabdian masyarakat ini yaitu focus group discussion dan tanya jawab. Hasil dari pengabdian masyarakat ini yaitu guru-guru memahami tujuan dari pendidikan karakter dan prinsip-prinsip penerapan pendidikan karakter di sekolah. Rencana tindak lanjut dari setiap guru guru dalam pembelajaran yaitu guru bertutur kata dengan baik, masuk tepat waktu dan mengingatkan siswa untuk berprilaku jujur, tanggungjawab dan tidak melakukan bullying kepada teman sekelas.

Abstract

The research is aimed to create the learning media by using local wisdom in Kampai Island. Kampai Island has unique local wisdom called Datuk Panjang, an islamic preacher in the Kampai Island. The technology is applied in the learning media and converted to the digital form called digital storytelling. This research is research and development (R&D). Developing the learning media used 4-D design consists of define, design, development dan dissemination proposed by Thiagarajan. The learning media should fulfil valid and effective. Invalidating the learning media followed two stages and the learning media was validated by the expert in media technology, language and literature. Based on the validation, the digital      storytelling has valid with the average 89% percent. Based on N-Gain, the digital storytelling was influential, with 76% of student passed the test and the gain score is 1 in the high level.

Abstract

This research aims to know the effectiveness of the Short Story to improve students’ reading comprehension. The design of the study is experimental research that consists of two classes; experiment and control classes. The research includes pre-test and post-test. The population is 60 and the sample is 40 students. The researcher uses simple random sampling to determine the sample of the study. In the pre-test data, the mean score of the experiment class is 60,69, and the mean score of the control class is 64,1. In post-test data, the mean score of the experimental class is 86.90, and the mean score of the control class is 62,25. Based on the analysis of the pre-test data, the value of Tcounted is 0,015, which is compared with Ttable is 1.685 or Tcounted < Ttable. It can be stated that there is no effect on pre-test data. Based on the analysis of the post-test data, the value of Tcounted is 1,801 that compared with Ttabel is 1.685 or Tcounted > Ttable , Ha is accepted. The Stort Story was effective to improve the students’ reading comprehension

Abstract

This research aims to analyse the grammatical errors made by the students in writing the English essay. The author uses the types ofgrammar in academic writing proposed by Yakhontova (2003). The research design is descriptive qualitative, and the technique ofanalysing the data is content analysis. Based on the analysis, there are five grammatical errors made by students. The errors are spelling,noun, subject-verb agreement, punctuation and pronoun. The students made errors in spelling with the total error is 16% and made errors innoun with the total error is 16%. Furthermore, the students made errors in punctuation with the total error is 28 % and made errors inpronoun with the total error is 20 %. The students made errors in pronoun with the total error is 20 %. Punctuation is the most errorsmade by the students in writing the essay.

Abstract

This research is aimed to analyze kinds of love and how to love depicted in the sonnet 116 written by William Shakespeare. Sonnet is a poem that consists of 14 lines. Sonnet 116 is one of the famous sonnet in the English Literature and scholars are interesting to analyze sonnet 116. The author uses the theory of love proposed by Steven Gans (2020). The research is library research, and the technique to analyze the data is content analysis. Based on the analysis, two types of love revealed in the sonnet 116 consist of fatuous love and companionate love. The fatuous has two lines depicted in line 2 until 4 and 5 until 6. The companionate has one line depicted in line 9 until 12. Commitment, forgiveness and intimacy are revealed in the sonnet 116 as the value of the true love in the sonnet 116.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This study aims to determine the perception of iEnglish Language Education students at STKIP AL MAKSUM Langkat towards online learning via Moodle during th Covid-19 pandemic. The qualitative descriptive method was carried out by distributing questionnaires using Google Form to 45 students of English Education STKIP AL MAKSUM Langkat. The questionnaire was distributed after completing the learning process for 3 months. The results of this study state that the use of the Moodle application provides a new experience in online learning activities, students can easily operate several features of the Moodle application, the learning process expects students to use the Moodle application, the Moodle application is one of e-learnin ithat can support learning activities online, the use of the Moodle application because classmates agree to use the Moodle application, and students can use the Moodle application easily in carrying out online learning activities.
