Abstract

This research was purposed to find out the types of error and the sources of error made by the seventh semester English students of STKIP Budidaya Binjai in theyear 2017/2018. The researcher formulated the problems of this research were: “What types of error are made by students in Mood?” and “What sources of errors are made by students in Mood?”. The design of the research was a qualitative research. Based on the results of the data analysis, the findings of this research can be stated as follows: (1) The seventh semester English students of STKIP Budidaya Binjai made error in writing Mood of the sentences. (2) The types of error which students made were: Omission, Addition (double marking), Misformation and Misordering. The type of error which the most dominantly made by the students was error of Omission. (3) The sources of error which students made were: Interlingual Transfer, Intralingual Transfer, Context of Learning andCommunication Strategy. The source of error which the most dominantly made by the students was Communication strategy.

Abstract

Pelatihan penyusunan Rencana Pelaksanaan Pembelajaran (RPP) berdasarkan Kurikulum 2013 Revisi disinyalir mampu meningkatkan kualitas proses dan hasilpendidikan, mengingat RPP sangat berkaitan dengan proses pembelajaran didalam kelas sehingga dapat meningkatkan kualitas lulusan dan sumber daya manusia Indonesia yang siap bersaing di dunia global. Kurikulum 2013 Revisi merupakan kurikulum yang mengintegrasikan nilai-nilai karakter, Kecakapan Berfikir Tingkat Tinggi atau Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS), Keterampilan abad 21, dan Gerakan Literasi Nasional. Faktanya, masih banyak guru yang belum mampu melaksanakan kegiatan pembelajaran sesuai dengan tuntutan kurikulum 2013 Revisi dengan baik, sehingga tujuan pembelajaran yang diinginkan pada setiap mata pelajaran belum tercapai. Dalam hal inilah, pengabdi menilai pentingnya melaksanakan pengabdian masyarakat berupa pelatihan RPP bagi guru di SMK sehingga dapat meningkatkan kualitas pendidikan. Adapun pelaksanaan kegiatan pelatihan ini menggunakan dua metode pembelajaran, yaitu: Pertama, ceramah tatap muka tentang teori pembelajaran berbasis HOTS, keterampilan abad 21, dan literasi nasional, dan Kedua, Tutorial penyusunan RPP berdasarkan Kurikulum 2013 Revisi. Pada umumnya guru sangat antusias dengan adanya pelatihan ini yang dibuktikan dengan banyaknya guru yang bertanya tentang pembelajaran HOTS, keterampilan abad 21, nilai-nilai karakter dan Gerakan Lite rasi Nasional, seperti apa penerapannya di dalam pembelajaran. Mereka menanyakan apa saja hal-hal yang mereka hadapi ketika menyusun RPP berdasarkan kurikulum 2013 revisi mulai dari kendala dalam menganalisis keterkaitan SKL, KI, dan KD, keterkaitan KD, IPK, Tujuan Pembelajaran, dan Materi Pembelajaran, Penerapan Model Pembelajaran, dan Penilaian Hasil Belajar sampai dengan kendala finansial dan waktu yang terbatas. Dalam hal ini tim pengabdi harus dapat memotivasi guru untuk berusaha menyusun RPP berdasarkan Kurikulum 2013 Revisi dengan efektif dan efisien. Harapannya setelah pelatihan ini guru dapat menyiapkan RPP berdasarkan Kurikulum 2013 Revisi, dan akan terus dikembangkan di kemudian hari.

Abstract

Translation shifts is a changing of form when it is translated from the source language into target language. In this study writer focus in translation shift and the most dominant of shift in the process of translating a discourse in “Jakarta Post” newspaper. This study conducts on the descriptive qualitative method. Descriptive design simply describes what data shows. In order to account for this, the writer use a wide variety of translation shift in order to accurately translate any given text. Based on the data analysis which is taken from ‘Jakarta Post’ newspaper on Monday, November 17, 2014 page 5, first column with the title “Unhas deputy rector named as suspected drug user”. The Jakarta Post is a daily English-language newspaper in Indonesia. The paper is owned by PT Niskala Media Tenggara and based in the nation's capital, Jakarta. The writer use theories of Catford, there are any major types of translation shifts. They are structure shift, unit shift, class shift and intra – system shift. In 20 sentences (including the title) the writer use 13 times to structure shift (44.9%), 9 times to unit shift (31.1%), 1 time to class shift (3.4%) and 6 times to intra – system shift (20.6%). So, Structure shift is the most dominant that be used by writer to translate the data.

Abstract

As we all know, the purpose of teaching students to read short tales is to help them understand the material and analyze the elements of the story, including the moral value, storyline, setting, and characters. The purpose of this study was to determine (1) what the students' initial conditions on reading short story texts were before to using the developed digital storytelling, and (2) how successful the developed digital storytelling utilized for teaching short story reading is. This digital tale was created as a result of the findings of this study, which were based on the results of questionnaires and interviews. It was discovered that the digital storytelling media should cover the needs of the students, which have some criteria such as after reading the short stories, hopefully they can increase their vocabulary, they like to read dramatic and romantic stories, the suitable medias in learning reading of short stories are online reading sources and video, types of digital storytelling are video words and digital storytelling video clips, digital storytelling should be easy to operate an After using digital storytelling to teach short story reading, the students demonstrated this progress. The production of materials improves students' grades and can increase their enthusiasm in reading short stories.

Abstract

Pelatihan ini merupakan salah satu pengabdian masyarakat yang bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan dan pengetahuan anak-anak Desa JaringHalus melalui pengenalan kosa-kosa Bahasa Inggris menggunakan media gambar. Berdasarkan observasi ditemukan bahwa kemampuan BahasaInggris anak-anak desa jaring halus masih rendah. Pelatihan ini dilakukan di Desa Jaring Halus, Kecamatan Secanggang, Kabupaten Langkat. Pelatihan ini terdiri dari delapan instrukur yang merupakan Dosen Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris STKIP Al Maksum Langkat dan Lima belas anak-anak Desa Jaring Halus. Pelatihan ini dilaksanakan pada tanggal 9 Maret 2020. Materi pelatihan terdiri dari beberapa jenis kosa kata Bahasa inggris. Hasil pelatihan menunjukkan bahwa sepuluh anak memiliki kemampuan rendah setelah mengikuti kegiatan pelatihan kosa-kata Bahasa inggris. Sementara itu, lima anak memiliki kemampuan menengah setelah mengikuti kegiatan Bahasa inggris. Dengan kata lain, pelatihan ini berhasil meningkatkan kemampuan lima anak dari rendah menuju menengah. Pelatihan ini diharapkan agar dilakukan secara berkelanjutan agar dapat meningkatkan kemampuan anak-anak Desa Jaring Halus, Kecamatan Secanggang, Kabupaten Langkat.

Abstract

In this study writer focus in translation technique and the most technique that be used translator in translating “I am Number Four “novel. In technique translators have a lot of different things to consider before diving into to translating a text. This study conducts on the descriptive qualitative method. Descriptive design simply describes what data shows. In order to account for this, translators use a wide variety of translation techniques in order to accurately translate any given text. Based on the data analysis which is taken from the novel ‘I Am Number Four’ written by Pittacus Lore in 2011 on chapter 3 page 13-14 and in Indonesian version, the novel is translated by Nur Aini in 2012 on chapter 3 page 24-26 . I Am Number Four was a young adult science fiction novel by Pittacus Lore. Pittacus lore was the pseudonym used by two of the authors, James Frey and the Jobie hughes. The writer finding the dominant technique that be used by the translator are literal and modulation technique. In 47 sentences the translator just use three times to pure borrowing technique and three times to deletion technique with the presentage literal translation (65,7%), modulation (25,7%), pure borrowing (4.3%), deletion (4,3%) . So literal and modulation technique are the most dominat used by Translator.

Abstract

Kajian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis hubungan antara bahasa dan struktur sosial dalam teks pidato Menteri Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan Nadiem Makarim pada Upacara Bendera Peringatan Hari Guru Nasional tahun 2019. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif kualitatif dengan perspektif Analisis Wacana Kritis (AWK) atau Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) yang diperkenalkan oleh Norman Fairclough. Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahwa adanya hubungan yang timbal balik antara bahasa dengan pencitraan Menteri Nadiem Makarim dan para guru melalui perubahan sistem pengajaran para guru dengan memanfaatkan berbagai strategi bahasa tertentu seperti struktur, tata bahasa, koherensi dan konjungsi.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This study used a hybrid methodology that combined quantitative and qualitative techniques. This study aimed to find out whether Total Physical Response (TPR) method significantly affects the students' vocabulary for second graders of MTs TPI Sawit Seberang. There were two classes were chosen as the sample of this study where class VIII B was the experimental group and VIII A was the control group which consists of 25 students in each group. A quasi-experimental design was employed by giving pre-test and post-tests to the two groups (control and experiment) where the treatment using TPR method was given to the experimental group, while the control group was taught by the traditional method. The results of this study showed that the significance score was 0,000 which means < 0.05. It means that Ho was rejected and Ha was accepted. It can be concluded that Total Physical Response (TPR) method significantly affects the students' vocabulary mastery of second graders of MTs TPI Sawit Seberang. The results of observational research also showed that the assessment of this method's benefits in lowering pressure and stress for students. The Data from field notes revealed that students happily engaged in the class activity without experiencing any stress. Keyword: TPR Method, Vocabulary Mastery
