Abstract

Introduction: Composite polymerization is a polymer molecule formation from monomeric molecules. To obtain good physical and mechanical properties of composite resin restoration, the dental composite resin must have the possibility of an optimal quantity of its monomer converted to the polymer during the polymerization reaction. The type, size, and content of the fillers in the composite are also essential factors in the polymerization process. A hardness test can be used to indirectly measure the hardness ratio of the upper and lower surfaces of the composite material (relative curing degree). The objective of this study was to analyze the differences in the hardness ratio of the upper and lower surface between LED-activated hybrid composite resin and nano composite resin. Methods: Thirty composite resin samples were randomly selected and divided into 2 groups. Group I was the hybrid composite resin group and Group II was the nano composite resin group. Samples were then formed into discs with a diameter of 6mm and a thickness of 2mm and polymerized using LCU LED with a light intensity of 800 mW/cm2 for 20 seconds. After 24 hours, the upper and lower surfaces of each sample were tested for three testing points using Vickers Hardness Tester. The data were then analyzed using the t-test. Results: The hardness ratio between the upper and lower surfaces (relative curing degree) of the hybrid composite resin and nano composite resin was 0.93 and 0.88 consecutively. Conclusion: There is any difference between the upper and lower surface hardness ratio of LED-activated hybrid composite resin and nano composite resin.

Abstract

Teeth with is treated with endodontic treatment has own problems, tends to be weaker because of dentin removal and reduced moisture content, so, requires post and crown restoration treatment. The principle of making restoration should be to restore function, esthetic, and to distribute chewing load, so, both teeth and its crown can be used in a long time in oral cavity. This case report described about 23-year-old female patient with a history of truma motor vehicle accident. Tooth 11,12,21 was fractured 2/3 crown with pulp exposed. The diagnosis which estabilished for this case is irreversible pulpitis and the treatment planning are one visit root canal treatment, post and fiber insertion and porcelain fused to metal restoration. On the first visit, acces preparation with crown down technique was done and rootcanals filled with gutta percha and sealer AH 26 with lateral condensation technique. Fiber post was insertion in next visit and cementation with dual-cured resin. Core was made in resin composite and porcelain fused to metal was inserted after control of patient condition in 1 week. One of those methods that used in this case is prefabricated glass fiber post, because of its biocompatibility, more aesthetic, has a modulus of elasticity which is resemble with dentine. Pressure that its transmitted by post to dentin is low, so, this is minimize a root fractured. The result of this treatment and the restoration was good, there were no patient complaints, and normal gingival seemed around the teeth. Restoration post endodontic treatment can be done with several techniques, one is post and porcelain fused to metal to produce a good restoration.

Abstract

Nanofiller has been used these years because it has smooth particles which will give good effect in esthetic. Failure or success of restoration depends on shade stability. The stability depends on adequate polymerization. Curing process is an important aspect to initiate polymerization. The aim of this study was to evaluate the differences of the shade between nanofiller composite resin irradiation with different curing time and also the effect of different curing time on shade of nanofiller resin composite immersed in tea solution. This research used 60 disks with 6 mm in diameter and 2 mm in thickness composite for 6 kind of acts. Group are cured for 20, 30, and 40 seconds that soaked in artificial saliva for 24 hours at 37oC and also in tea solution for 72 hours. The gradation of the shade were measured with spectrophotometry. The statistical analysis that used two way Anova showed that there was no significantly difference in shade of nanofiller composite resin irradiated with different curing times that soaked in tea solution (p>0,05) and there were significantly differences among irradiation in 20 seconds soaked in tea and saliva with irradiation group of 30 and 40 seconds (p<0.05).

Abstract

Root canal treatment is divided into 3 stages, namely the biomechanical preparation stage of the root canal, the sterilization and disinfection stage of the root canal, and the root canal filling stage. The success of root canal filling depends on the state of asepsis, thorough cleaning of the pulp tissue, biomechanical preparation, and hermetic root canal filling. After root canal treatment, teeth require different treatment than vital teeth, due to reduced moisture in these teeth and a reduction in dentin during the root canal preparation process, which affects the remaining hard tissue structure of the teeth. There are several types of restorations that can be used after root canal treatment. Post-root canal restoration treatment using composite resin materials can be made directly or indirectly, the technique must be able to strengthen the remaining hard tissue structure of the teeth and restore tooth function. If some of the teeth are missing but still have sufficient thickness of the dentin enamel structure and the patient wants a tooth-colored restoration, indirect composite onlay may be an option.

Abstract

Early Childhood Caries (ECC) is a state of occurrence of decayed (cavities and non cavities), missing (due to caries), or filling on one or more deciduous teeth in children aged ≤ 71 months. Wayne (1999) divided the severity of ECC into three classifications based on clinical signs, causes, and age of the child namely type I (mild), type II (moderate), and type III (severe). The rate of caries incidence is increasing in children who consume milk using bottles. Clinical pattern to ECC caused by bottle feeding has a distinctive pattern, which is about four upper incisors, while four lower incisors usually remain healthy. This study aims to determine the correlation between the history and pattern of bottle feeding and the severity of ECC in children aged 3-5 years in Kuranji District, Padang City. This study is an analytical study with a cross sectional approach. The study sample consisted of 58 children aged 3-5 years with a history of bottle feeding for at least two years. Samples are selected through consecutive sampling technique. Data are collected using questionnaires and through examining respondents' oral cavity. Data collected are analyzed using Chi-Square Test. Statistical test result shown p < 0,15 for each pattern of bottle feeding duration in years, the time of bottle feeding, the addition of sweeteners, and preventive measures. P is valued as > 0,15 for bottle feeding method. There is a significant relationship between the history and the pattern of bottle feeding duration in years, the time of bottle feeding, the addition of sweeteners, and preventive measures with the severity of ECC in children aged 3-5 years in Kuranji District, Padang City.

Abstract

The main goal of endodontic treatment is to remove the entire microbial flora from the root canal system and promote periapical healing. Microorganisms that settle in the root system play an important role in the development and persistence of periapical lesions. Necrotic canals provide a very favorable environment for the growth of microorganisms in the root canal system. Thus, elimination of these bacteria is essential for apical and periapical healing after endodontic treatment. This case report discusses the endodontic treatment using calcium hydroxide in a necrotic pulp with chronic periapical abscess.
