Abstract

Aprisal. et al. Dynamics of Some Physical Properties of Soils Under Conservation Farming System on the Critical Land Aripan in the DTA Singkarak. JLSO 5(2):137-144.The conservation farming on critical land can improve the soil properties and maintantain for a periode of time. The purpose of this research is to study the dynamics of critical land’s physical characteristics under the influence of conservation farming at Singkarak Water Catchment Area (DTA) in Nagari Aripan. The analysis of soil sample is conducted in Soil Science Department Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Andalas University. This research is designed with Split Plot Design (RPT). The main plot is a soil processing system which is: conventional soil processing (po), soil processing with mulch (p1), soil processing with compost and manure (p2) and minimum soil processing (p3), while the sub plot consists of three types of plants, they are; sweet corn (t1), soy bean (t2) and peanut (p3). Each treatment is repeated three times. Result of the research is observation data in each season of the first, second and third year. To see the dynamics of soil characteristics, data of each season is viewed through graphic which based on its trend. The result of the research indicates that utilization of critical land with conservation farming system could repair and maintain some physical characteristics of soil in each growing season, such as: decreasing volume, increasing soil organic matter, porosity, and soil permeability. Productivity of soil increases on the conventional processing with mulch, compost, and manure. Conventional soil processing with added compost and manure increases productivity for 32.58% in the first year, 45.16% in the second year, and 59.73% in the third year.

Abstract

Actually, the system of rice intensifications (SRI) have been encouraging the international researchers, included Indonesians, to intensively increase the yield. The system, such as regulations of planting points, numbers of seedling in each crop point, and planting time were applied here. The research was conducted in Limau Manis, aside the UNAND campus, from January to June 2005 used the varieties of Cisokan. The split plot design was applied in the research. The fertilizers were applied according to the recommended 200 kg urea, 200 kg SP-36, and 150 kg KCl. The research variables are harvest time, productive tillers, numbers of grain per panicle, grain weight, yield component, and yield. The data shows that relatively higher of monthly rainfalls and lower sunny days along the research periods have been the constrains in maximizing the crop production. Simply, the SRI application in the region was significantly useful due to the higher of both crop yield and yield component.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to identify the problems and develop rice agribusiness in Mentawai Islands from upstream to downstream and formulate appropriate policy recommendations to be implemented. The research location determined by purposive namely in the village Makalo and Malakopa District of South Pagai, Sikakap subdistrict Taikako Village, Village Saumanganya District of North Pagai, Bosua Village and Village Beriulou District of South Sipora, Village Rogdog and Madobag District of South Siberut. Respondents in this study were 30 farmers. Respondents farmers selected by simple random sampling method. The results showed that the majority of rice paddies new openings in six districts consist of peatlands with a depth varying from 0.4- > 2.0 meter, fields new openings that have been implemented in the Mentawai Islands in general can not be expected to result in maximum productivity due to problems of land suitability diverse. Farmers also do not take action appropriate technical culture starting from land preparation, seed selection, weeding, fertilizing and water management. Behaviorally agriculture, farmers in Mentawai Islands is not a society that blends with the culture of rice fields, it is because basically their agricultural base is dry land agriculture with farming patterns. This will certainly give a great challenge and not easy for the cultivation of rice in the Mentawai Islands.
