Abstract

The study tended to examine Kemangi meal (Ocimum basilicum) addition on chemical composition and physical quality of broiler meat. The materials of the study were 150 DOC (Phokphand CP 707 strain).  The method of the study was Completely Randomized Design with 5 treatments and 3 replications. The treatments were the addition of kemangi meal in broiler feed at various levels such as 0% (P0), 0.50% (P1), 0.75% (P2), 1.00% (P3), and 1.25% (P4).  The variables were protein, fat, cholesterol, pH, water holding capacity and cooking loss of broiler meat. The data were analyzed by analysis of variance and if there were significant differences, the Least Significance Different Test (LSD) would be applied. The study showed that kemangi meal addition had a highly significant effect (P<0.01) on meat protein, fat, cholesterol, WHC, pH and on cooking loss (P<0.05). The stuy concluded that the addition of kemangi meal could improve chemical composition and physical quality of broiler meat. Keywords: kemangi, protein, fat, cholesterol, pH, water holding capacity, cooking loss

Abstract

This research was carried out from October 25th to November 22th 2014 in Tani Wanita Lestari Sejahtera group at Modopuro village, Mojosari district-Mojokerto regency. The purpose of the research was to evaluate the influence of betle leaf extract in hatching eggs dyeing on the mortality and hatchability of embryos. The material of the research was 336 hatching eggs Mojosari duck owned by Mrs Suhartatik in Modopuro village. The research used experiment method by complete random scheme. The treatment consisted of four treatments and each treatment was repeated six times, so there were twenty four units of experiment. Each experiment used fourteen eggs so there were three hundred thirty six hatching eggs. The method of the treatments were P0= without dyeing, P1= Aquadest plus 10% of extract betle leaf, P2= Aquadest plus 20% of extract betle leaf, P3= Aquadest plus 30% of extract betle leaf . The variables were hatchability and mortality of the embryos. The result of the research showed that the effect of extract betle leaf was not significant (P>0,05) on hatchability. Besides the effect of 30% of extract betle leaf for dyeing process was not significant (P>0,05) on embryos mortality. The research concluded that extract betle leaf was not able to increase hatchability and was not able to decrease duck embryos mortality. It  means that extract betle leaf was not effective as substitute factor in cleaning process of hatching eggs before it was entered to the hatching machine. Keywords: Hatchability, embryos mortality

Abstract

This study was conducted to evaluate the use of blood meal in ration on quail’s feed consumption, body weight gain, feed conversion ratio and age at first laying. Materials for this reseach were 120 quails. The method of the study was experimental research with 4 treatments and 6 replications. The treatments consisted of P0 = basal feed without blood meal, P1 = basal feed with 4% of blood meal, P2 = basal feed with 8% of blood meal and P3 = basal feed with 12% of blood meal. The variables were feed consumption, body weight gain, feed conversion ratio and age at first laying. Data were analyzed by ANOVA and if there were significant differences among variables it would be tested by Duncan’s multiple range test. The study showed that the treatments had highly significant effects (P<0,01) on quail’s feed consumption and feed convertion ratio and had significant effects (P<0,05) on quail’s body weight gain and age at first laying. The study concluded that the use of 4% of blood meal in quail’s ration had the best result on body weight gain, feed convertion ratio and age at first laying.  Keywords : blood meal, feed consumption, body weight gain, feed conversion ratio, age at first laying, quail
