Abstract

Needs analysis for the sport and health education teachers after the implementation of learning-teacher program AbstractThe study aims at mapping the in-depth and concrete teacher competence and recommendation formula toward the concept of effective, efficient, productive, creative and innovative job implementation in implementing the special program of teachers’ competence and professionalism development in the Province of Yogyakarta Special Region. Then, the data in the study were gathered bt means of identification or record sheets. After the data had been gathered, a focus group discussion (FGD) was conducted by involving several teachers who had also been selected by means of purposive sampling technique. Then, in analysing the data for the study the following procedures were applied: (1) data classification; (2) data display; (3) interpretation and conclusion drawing/verification. Based on the results of the study, it might be concluded that the teachers of Sports and Health Education in the Province of Yogyakarta Special Region are still troubled with their capacity of operating Information Technology, the clarity of Learning-Teacher Program and the low guidance provided by the relevant institution; as a result, the implementation of the program among the teachers become stagnant. The teachers in the program prefer Community-Based Learning as the method for the program implementation. In relation to the demand, the concept of Five Disciplines by Peter Senge that includes personal mastery, mental models, building shared vision, team learning and system thinking should be encouraged in empowering the teachers of Sports and Health Education.

Abstract

This study aims to determine whether the competences of Physical Education (PE) teachers make contributions to the quality of learning achievements of elementary school students. It was qualitative descriptive research using a reflective explorative approach. The subject of this study was the result of competence test of PE teachers in Yogyakarta Special Region in 2016. The study involved 60 PE teachers who were subjected to have an FGD (Forum Group Discussion) in some stages. The results show that the average score obtained by elementary school PE teachers in their Teacher Competence Test (TCT) stage II in 2016 was 61.79 for the pedagogical competences, and 60.07 for the professional competences. These results could exceed the national average score of 53.7. Based on the interviews with several teachers, the results of the competence tests had not indicated that PE elementary school teachers could improve the students’ learning quality. The teachers focused more on their preparations to take the TCT as a part of the assignments to the Learning Teacher program they participated in. This study also reveals that the TCT scores did not make a significant contribution to the students’ learning achievements in PE subject. Furthermore, TCT was considered by the teachers as a goal and not as an instrument to improve their competences in the teaching and learning processes.

The primary purpose of this study is to identify and map students' learning styles in physical education learning in elementary schools based on geography. Design descriptive-analytic research, survey techniques, and VAK attitude test instruments (visual, auditory, kinesthetic) from DePorter. Research variables include visual, auditory, and kinesthetic modalities. Research in six schools with 120 student respondents divided into three elementary schools in urban areas of Bantul sub-district and three primary schools in rural areas of Dlingo sub-district in Bantul Regency, which were sampled systematically to determine research areas and schools using percentages. The research results in three schools in rural areas, including SD Mangunan Dlingo, SD Negeri 2 Banjarharjo Dlingo, and SD Suruh, illustrate that 70% of their student learning styles are kinesthetic modalities followed by visual and auditory modalities with a percentage of 20% and 10%. However, three schools in urban areas, namely Teruman Public Elementary School, Manunggal Public Elementary School, and East Bantul Public Elementary School, showed Visual Modal dominance with 60%, followed by Auditory and Kinesthetic respectively, 30% and 10%.
