Abstract

The goal of this research is to test the existence of winner-loser anomaly based on underreaction hypothesis, specifically to investigate the profitability of momentum investment strategy in Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) by observing a sample of the firm listed at LQ45 index. For examining the presence of momentum in prices, the research used a variable of excess return from June 2004 to June 2007, and overlapping six months formation and test period. The analysis found that underreaction occured in the market, and there was strong evidence for price momentum of past winners and losers in IDX. On the other word, momentum investment strategy obtained significant profit for short-term horizon (six months). If momentum returns in United States and European markets were due to underreaction to information contained in past prices, this research found the same behavioral phenomenon in the Indonesian capital market.

Abstract

This paper aims to examine: (1) The effect of stock splits on share ownership composition, liquidity, and return for splitting firms; (2) Linkages among those three variables and ownership composition prior to the split as a conditioning variable; and (3) Relationship between liquidity change and ownership composition change as anintervening variable. The sample observed in this study was the firm listed at Jakarta Stock Exchange during period 1995 - 2000 and splitting the stock during January 1997 – December 1998, this sample was selected based on purposive sampling method. The research method used is event study, i.e. research methodology designed to measure the impact of an event of interest on stock returns. The analysis yields three main results: (1) The stock split does not change the ownership composition and the level of liquidity. (2) The effect of stock split on ownership composition and liquidity is conditional on the level of institutional ownership prior to the split. Firms with high institutional ownership prior to the split experience decrease in institutional ownership, while firms with low institutional ownership prior to the split do not change. Changes in liquidity are negatively affected by the level of institutional ownership prior to the split and positively affected by changes in institutional ownership proportion. (3) There are positive abnormal returns following the stock split. The abnormal returns are not related to the level of institutional ownership prior to the split.

Abstract

Village development is a program (or an effort)aimed to continuously improve the quality of life for the maximum welfare of the village people. Village development is multidimensional and multisectoral in nature. This development program is also seen or assessed from all fields including the health sector. With regard tothe quality of life in the health sector, the government has been conducting what is called the standby-active village (nagari) activities to boost the health of the rural community. But the findings of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia show no nagari (or village) in the Lima Puluh Kota Regency managed to get into the independent village category since the launch of the standby and active village program. For this reason, it is important to look at the factors that influence the development of an active and standby nagari (village)to reach the level of independent village in the regency. This research uses a qualitative approach. This study selected three locations of active and standby villages (nagari) in the Lima Puluh Kota Regency, i.e. Nagari Pandam Gadang in the Gunung Mas District (Pratama Category), Nagari VII Koto Talago in Guguak District (Madya Category), and Nagari Batu Balang in Harau District (Purnama Category). Data collection was carried out through in-depth interviews with informants, as well as report documents and activities of the active standby nagari. Data analysis is carried out in stages through data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions/verification. The research results shows a number of factors affecting the development efforts for the active standby nagari to become independent, namely the absence of active nagari forums, the lack of independent cadres, the lack of Community-Based Health Efforts (UKBM) apart from posyandu (integrated health post), low participation of the people, the business community and community organizations, and the low level of community participation fostering the Clean and Healthy Behavior (PHBS). This can be seen from the absence of community empowerment, resulting in low community participation and the lack of social change in the independent active-standby nagari program. So, a good evaluation and monitoring by the government and related parties of the active-standby nagari program is thus imperative. Key words: Nagari Siaga Aktif, Lima Puluh Kota Regency
