Abstract

The purpose of this study is to improve science processing skills of students of SMPN 8 Banda Aceh in the concept of pollution and environmental degradation by using project-based learning. An experimental method with pretest-posttest control group design was used in this study. The population was all students of class VII SMPN 8 Banda Aceh which consisted of 5 classes with total number was 130 students. The samples were selected by using simple random sampling technique. There were 44 students from VII-1 acted as control group and class VII-2 acted as experimental group. The data were gathered by using pre-test and post-test. The research instruments used were essay questions to measure science processing skills, student’s work sheet, and work assessment’s rubrics based on science processing skills. The data then analyzed by calculating the post-test and pre-test gain and t-test to compare between the experimental class and control class. They were analyzed by using independent sample t-test. The results showed that there were improvement in the average of science processing skills of students in project-based learning’s class for about 51.86 (high) and conventional learning class for about 38.02 (medium). T-test results obtained as follows: tvalue was 2.680 and ttable was 2.021, so tvalue>ttable. The conclusion was the implementation of project-based learning in the concept of pollution and environmental degradation improved the science processing skills of student of SMPN 8 Banda Aceh.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to find out the implementation of Problem based learning (PBL) model which is integrated with animated video in improving students’ learning outcomes in the concept of human digestive system. The data were collected from August 16th until September 6th, 2016. An experimental method with Pretest-Posttest Control Group design was used in this research. Students of class VIII1 were chosen as experimental group, while students of class VIII2 were chosen as control group. The data were collected by using test. The data were analyzed by using independent sample – t-test with the level of significance of 0.05. The results showed that the value of t count> t table; 4,919 > 2,002 for the students’ learning outcomes. Therefore, it could be concluded that the PBL model which is integrated with animated video influenced the improvement of the students’ learning outcomes in the concept of human digestive system at SMP N 5 (State Junior High School ) Banda Aceh.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to determine the differences of students’ cognitive learning outcome through project based learning method and conventional one. To collect the data, an experimental research is conducted by using pretest – posttest control group design. The samples were the second semester students of class XI of MAN 1 Sigli, Pidie regency which consisted of 66 students (33 students of class XI IPA-2 and 33 students of class XI IPA-3). Project based learning method was implemented in experimental class; meanwhile conventional method was implemented in control class. The data were analyzed by using independent sample t-test with SPSS 16.0 for Windows at significant level of 0.05. The result showed that there was a significant improvement of cognitive learning outcome of experimental class students (tcount7,156 > 2,000). It can be concluded that project based learning can increase students’ cognitive achievement.

Abstract

Camtasia studio media assisted handout is one of the learning resource that can be used by student as a substitute for textbook. The aim of this study was to find out students’ concept mastery of those who were taught by using camtasia studio media assisted handout and those who were taught by using conventional learning in the concept of excretion system. This study used experimental research that was implemented in SMA N 12 Banda Aceh in academic year 2014/2015. The subject of this study was 40 students, they were 20 students of IX IPA-2 and 20 students of IX IPA-3. The sample of study was 40 students, 20 students were chosen as the experimental group and 20 students as the control one. The data of students learning outcomes were taken from pretest and postest results. The N-Gain data of students’ learning outcomes were analyzed by using independent simple test and Kolmogorov-Smirnov test. There were three results of this study namely: the understanding of concept students was differed significantly between the students that taught by using Camtasia studio media assisted handout and the students taught conventionally with the value p = 0.000 < 0.05. It can be concluded that there was a significant differences in students’ concepts mastery between those who used Camtasia studio media assisted handout as the source of learning and those who received conventional learning in the concept of excretion system.

Abstract

This study was designed to know the implementation of discovery-based learning modules to resolve misconceptions. The data were collected on June, 2016. An experimental method with pretest posttest control group design was conducted at MAN Darussalam. The samples were students of class XI IA 1 as the control class and students of class XI IA 3 as the experimental class. The instrument used was a test to measure students’ misconceptions. To analyze the data, the researcher used percentage formula. The results showed that the concept of chemical components of cells decreased by 25%, the concept of the structure and function of cells decreased by 15%, the concept of animal and plant cell organelles decreased by 6% misconceptions and the concept of transport through the membrane increased by 2%. It was concluded that the discovery-based learning modules could solve students’ misconceptions in the cell concepts at MAN Darussalam.
