Abstract

The problems in culture of early juvenile phase of spiny lobster Panulirus homarus is low survival rate of the seed. One of strategies to improve production is using filtration system during nursery of spiny lobster. The aim of this study to evaluate differentation of physical filtration system on responsse stress and survival rate of juvenile P. homarus. Experimental design of this study consisted of four treatments and two replications. The treatments were using flow through system without protein skimmer and filter (K), filtration system with protein skimmer (SK), filtration system with top filter (F) and filtration system with combinations of protein skimmer and top filter (SKF). P. homarus with initial weight 0.18+0.01 g were cultured for 60 days with density 250 lobster/tank. During maintenance, P. homarus were fed trash fish with feeding rate 20% of body weight. Parameters of glucose hemolymph were evaluated to determine stress response. Stress response was determined at day 0, 6, 20 and 60. Parameters of survival rate were determined at the end of experiment. The result showed that the treatment of filtration system with combination of protein skimmer and top filter (SKF) decreased stress responsse by decreasing glucose hemolymph of juvenile P. homarus during maintenance. Survival rate also higher (P<0.05) in treatment SKF (33.2%) than other treatments. Abstract

The availability of shelters in a specific density is expected to increase the production of mud crabs (Scylla serrata) in a recirculation system. Shelter, as one of the abiotic factors, plays a pivotal role in reducing death caused by cannibalism of crab and suppressing the stress levels of biota. Recirculation Aquaculture System (RAS), with the culture box capacity 60 L supported by the shelters, is predicted to produce the best physiological and growth responses of mud crabs. This present study aims to evaluate the effect of shelter addition in the environmental recirculation system on the physiological responses and production of mud crabs S. serrata with a density of 10 crabs per one culture box containing 60 L of seawater. The research was set up with three treatments of shelter addition, i.e., two shelters (S2), four shelters (S4), six shelters (S6), and control without shelter (C). Results showed that S6 was the best treatment with a survival rate of 73.33 ± 5.8%, a specific growth rate of 0.886 ± 0.014%, the growth rate of carapace width 0.024 ± 0.004 cm/day, and the lowest feed conversion ratio than those of other treatments. S6 treatment significantly influenced the total hemocyte count of crabs at the early cultivation (P <0.05). Addition of six shelters could optimize the growth of mud crabs with a stocking density of 10 crabs in one culture box.

Abstract

Sediment quality has been considered as one of the prime factors influencing the environment quality that support maximum shrimp production.The aim of the study was toevaluate the effects of sediment redox potential and shrimp stocking density on the profile of some sediment and water quality parameters. Two factors randomized factorial design was applied, with stocking density (60 and 120 shrimps.m-2) as the first variable and sediment redox potential (-65 mV, -108 mV and -206 mV) as the second variable. Some significant changes in TP, total Mn, and total S concentrations in the sediment were observed after the experimentation (P<0.05). Sediment redox potential significantly affected the dissolved oxygen, TAN, NO2, NO3, and H2S concentrations in the water. Whereas shrimp stocking density affected all water quality parameters except H2S concentration. Significant interactions between redox potential and stocking densities were observed in the nitrite and alkalinity concentrations. The significant effects of both shrimp density and redox potential on the sediment and water parameters in particular those that are known to directly affect the shrimp welfare (e.g. oxygen, ammonia, nitrite and H2S) indicate that these variables are of important aspects in shrimp pond management. Furthermore, the results clearly showed that -206mV redox potential significantly reduced the dissolved oxygen concentration in the sediment-water interface and increased the generation of H2S in water column. Thereby, this redox potential level is not advisable for shrimp culture system. Keywords: redox potential, stocking density.

Abstract

Organic carbon source and C/N ratio play an important role in aquaculture system with biofloc technology application. Nitrogen control by adding carbohydrates to the water to stimulate heterotrophic bacterial growth by converting nitrogen into bacterial biomass. The study investigated the effect molasses, tapioca, tapioca by product and rice bran as carbon sources in a biofloc media at three different C/N ratios i.e. 10, 15, and 20 on total ammonia reduction in biofloc media. Five liters of biofloc media in a conical tank was prepared for each replicate, which consisted of 500 mL of biofloc suspension collected from a shrimp culture unit with biofloc technology application and 4.5 L seawater. Pacific white shrimp culture was performed in 40L glass aquaria at a shrimp density of 30/aquarium. There was a significant interaction between carbon source and the C/N ratio applied (P<0.05). The use of molasses resulted in the highest reduction rate irrespective to the C/N ratio. Keywords: molasses, tapioca, tapioca by product, rice bran, biofloc, total ammonia nitrogen

Abstract

The study on the effect of shelter on growth and survival rate of the tiger shrimp (Penaeun monodon Fab.) have been carried out. Three kinds of different shelters and one control were conducted, namely (1) control, (2) shelter with mangrove branch (3) shelter with coconut branch, (4) shelter with bamboo branch. The result showed that the survival rate of tiger shrimp were 52.00%, 78.67%, 64.00%, 68.00%, respectively, while their growth rate were 9.08%, 7.74%, 5.95%, 6.85%, respectively. These findings indicated that the shelter have affected to the survival rate of the tiger shrimp, however, there were no significant difference in the growth of tiger shrimp.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a strategy for the sustainability of shrimp aquaculture using an ecosystem approach or EAA in Pinrang Regency, South Sulawesi. A series of analyzes were carried out, namely the environmental carrying capacity analysis of aquaculture using pond environmental feasibility standards, analysis of critical factors for the sustainability of aquaculture using multidimensional scaling analysis, analysis of the sustainability status of aquaculture using pairwise comparison analysis and analysis of shrimp aquaculture management strategies based on EAA. using hierarchy process analysis. The results showed that the following strategies were needed: a) accelerating spatial planning and implementing programs in accordance with the directions for spatial use and control; b) institutional strengthening of capital cultivators in order to complement and improve facilities and infrastructure in accordance with the SOP; and c) increasing the level of education and providing a social and economic security system for members of the shrimp farming community

Abstract

The red tilapia were cultivated in kolong (above 30 years age of lake of post-tin mining) for four month; on the rate of lead (Pb) biomagnification in the organs (liver, kidney and muscle), given positif correlation from planktons in instestine composition, and its effects to the growth rate has been investigated. Results revealed that in the third month, accumulation of lead in the organs of both species were increased, especially in their livers, above the safe level to be consumed (62.14 mg/kg, 8.41 mg/kg and 15.39 mg/kg, 55.23 mg/kg, respectively), but then were decreased in the fourth month. Abstract

Budi daya lele merupakan komponen penting dalam sektor usaha perikanan air tawar di Kabupaten Tangerang dengan kontribusi lebih dari 70% (senilai Rp109,5 milyar) pada tahun 2018. Meskipun demikian, diperlukan peningkatan produksi di masa yang akan datang dalam rangka mengantisipasi perkembangan dan kebutuhan pasar. Peningkatan tersebut perlu didukung oleh informasi potensi budi daya serta strategi pengembangannya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendapatkan informasi mengenai karakteristik kegiatan budi daya serta merumuskan strategi pengembangan budi daya lele di Kabupaten Tangerang. Pengambilan data dilakukan melalui survei dengan kuesioner terstruktur selama bulan Oktober 2018 hingga Januari 2019. Metode analisis data terdiri atas analisis deskriptif dan analisis SWOT. Alternatif strategi yang diprioritaskan berdasarkan hasil analisis SWOT yaitu strategi SO (Strength-Opportunities) yang berada pada kuadran I. Peningkatan keterampilan, ketersediaan benih berkualitas, dan penerapan teknolologi informasi diharapkan mampu mendukung efisiensi, produktivitas dan keberlanjutan usaha. Alternatif strategi yang disarankan yaitu: (1) Dinas terkait memfasilitasi pelatihan teknologi intensifikasi budi daya yang ramah lingkungan, serta penyediaan benih unggul; dan (2) Perluasan wilayah pemasaran dan pengembangan usaha dengan memanfaatkan teknologi informasi, serta penguatan kerjasama antar pembudidaya.Title: Evaluation of Catfish Farming System: Production Aspect and Developmental Strategy, (Case studies: Catfish Farmers in Tangerang Regency)Catfish farming is an important element in the freshwater fisheries business in Tangerang Regency that contributes more than 70 percent of total production (Rp. 109.5 billion) in 2018. However, it is necessary to increase the number of future production to anticipate the market demand. This increasing production should be supported with information on potential aquaculture and its development strategies. This study aims to describe the characteristics of aquaculture activities as well as to formulate the development strategies of catfish farming in Tangerang Regency. Data were collected by structured questionnaires from October 2018 to January 2019. Data were analyzed using descriptive and SWOT analysis. Result of SWOT analysis suggests that SO (Strength-Opportunities), which was in quadrant 1, should be prioritized.  Skill improvement, availability of good fingerling, and application of information technology were expected to encourage its productivity, efficiency, and business sustainability. The study suggests following recommendation: (1) Associated agencies facilitate training of green intensification on aquaculture technology and supply superior fingerlings; and (2) Market expansion and business development using information technology, and the intense cooperation among farmers.

Abstract

ABSTRAKSalah satu komoditas ikan air tawar yang menyumbang produksi perikanan terbesar adalah ikan gurame (Osphronemus goramy) yang mempunyai nilai ekonomis tinggi. Pembenihan ikan gurame adalah hal yang penting untuk menjaga keberlanjutan budidaya ikan gurame. Tujuan penelitian adalah menganalisis pengaruh sistem resirkulasi terhadap kualitas air, kelulushidupan benih ikan gurame, dan kelayakan usaha.  Pembenihan ikan gurame pada penelitian ini menggunakan tiga wadah budidaya, yaitu: 1) akuarium dengan sistem resirkulasi (Wadah I); 2) kolam beton sistem air mengalir (Wadah II);  kolam beton sistem pergantian air 30% secara berkala (Wadah III). Parameter yang diamati meliputi kualitas air dan angka kelulushidupan benih ikan gurame, serta kelayakan usahanya. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemeliharaan benih ikan gurame pada akuarium dengan sistem resirkulasi mempunyai kualitas air (suhu, oksigen terlarut, dan amoniak) yang terbaik, angka kelulushidupan (average daily growth, average body weight, specific growth ratio, survival rate) yang terbaik, dan membutuhkan modal terbesar pada investasi awal tetapi menghasilkan keuntungan yang lebih tinggi. Pembenihan ikan gurame dengan sistem resirkulasi direkomendasikan karena meningkatkan kualitas air, menghasilkan tingkat kelulushidupan yang tinggi dan menghasilkan keuntungan yang lebih tinggi.ABSTRACTOne of the freshwater fish commodities that contributes to the largest fisheries production is giant gourami (Osphronemus goramy) which has high economic value. Giant gourami hatchling is important to maintain the sustainability of its cultivation. This study aims to analyze the effect of recirculation system to water quality, survival rates, and feasibility of giant gourami hatchling business. Giant gourami hatchling in this study uses three cultivation containers, namely: 1) an aquarium with a recirculation system (Container I); 2) concrete pond with flowing water system (Container II); concrete pond with 30% water change system periodically (Container III). The parameters observed included water quality and survival rate of giant gourami hatchling, as well as the feasibility of their business. The results indicated that the giant gourami hatchling in an aquarium with a recirculation system had the best water quality (temperature, dissolved oxygen, and ammonia), had the best survival rate (average daily growth, average body weight, specific growth ratio, survival rate), and requires the largest amount of capital in the initial investment but yields more returns. Giant gouramy hatchery with a recirculation system is recommended due to improves water quality, results in a high survival rate and generates higher profits.

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the effect of the different doses of vitamin E in diet toward malondialdehide value and accumulation of heavy metal of Tilapia Oreochromis niloticus (Linnaeus 1758) exposed by lead (Pb). This study consists of four treatments, three replications and one negative control which was analyzed with descriptive method. Vitamin E supplementation treatments in the diet were KN (negative control 0 mg kg-1 , no exposed by lead); KP (positive control 0 mg kg-1 ); P100 (100 mg kg-1 ); P300 (300 mg kg-1 ); P500 (500 mg kg-1 ). Tilapia (13.17±1.06 g fish-1 ) were reared in 15 aquariums (135 liters volume) with a density of 13 fish in each aquarium for 60 days exposed by lead with 9.119 mg L-1 concentrations (except negative control). Fish were fed thrice a day at at 08.00 am, 12.00 pm, and 16.00 pm with the satiation level. An addition of Vitamin E alpha-tocopherol of 100 mg kg-1 in diet exposed by lead could decrease the accumulation of lead and MDA in fish liver of 1.47 mg kg-1 and 5.41 µg g-1, respectively. Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi pengaruh penambahan vitamin E dengan dosis berbeda pada pakan terha- dap nilai malondialdehid hati dan akumulasi logam berat pada tubuh ikan nila Oreochromis niloticus (Linnaeus, 1758) yang terpapar timbal (Pb). Rancangan penelitian yang digunakan adalah rancangan acak lengkap dengan empat perlaku- an dan tiga ulangan, dan satu perlakuan kontrol negatif yang diolah secara deskriptif. Perlakuan penambahan vitamin E: KN (kontrol negatif 0 mg kg-1 tanpa paparan Pb); KP (kontrol positif 0 mg kg-1 ); P100 (100 mg kg-1 ); P300 (300 mg kg-1 ); P500 (500 mg kg-1 ). Ikan nila (13,17±1,06 g ekor -1 ) dipelihara dalam 15 akuarium (volume 135 liter) dengan ke- padatan 13 ekor akuarium-1 selama 60 hari paparan Pb konsentrasi 9,119 mg L-1 kecuali kontrol negatif tanpa paparan. Ikan diberi pakan secara at satiation sebanyak tiga kali sehari pada pukul 08.00, 12.00, dan 16.00. Hasil penelitian me- nunjukkan bahwa vitamin E alpha-tokoperol sebanyak 100 mg kg-1 pada pakan ikan nila yang terpapar Pb (timbal) kon- sentrasi 9,119 mg L-1 dapat menurunkan nilai akumulasi logam Pb dan nilai malondialdehid hati ikan mencapai 1,47 mg kg-1 dan 5,41 µg g-1 .
